Hand hold - DH likely to die in next few days

My DH went to hospital a month ago with seizures that wouldn’t stop. He was resistant to all medication so they had to put him in an induced coma on ICU to try and stop them and reduce swelling on the brain. This last option hadn’t worked, as they don’t know the underlying cause for the seizures and they’ve now told me he’s unlikely to survive.

We have two young children and I’m not sure how I can face life without him or how I would break the news to DS9 when the time comes. My other child is 4. I’m in bits, he’s only 39 and was fit and healthy before this.

Hi sweetie, how are you holding up. I wanted to say have hope. My DH was in an induced coma after a heart attack. He had no oxygen for 10 mins so he had swelling on his brain. Drs kept saying even if he does come round he might be brain damaged. Apart from being high on the pain killers he recovered thanks to the grace of God.
Talk to your DH, he can still hear you. Play your children’s videos to him so he can hear them. Do tell them he’s ill so they are informed.

And deepest condolences to all the supportive PPs on this thread who have tragically lost their DHs too early x

We’re just at the hospital and they said they can try autoimmune therapy with plasma for a couple of days to see if that works. It’s a long shot but they’re trying whatever they can. They also can’t do surgery as the brain swelling is too big and they said it isn’t encephalitis. Praying this may work a miracle.

Hold tight and keep praying for that miracle ❤
I am, for all of you.

Still thinking of you and sending positive vibes. Just a thought, I know they told you it isn't encephalitis but have you considered getting a second opinion? One thing I have discovered since my DH came down with encephalitis is that there is a lot of ignorance about this condition even among health professionals.

Bahemoth · 18/07/2024 10:39

Thanks for all your messages. We’re going to the hospital shortly and I’ll say we want a second opinion on whether it’s autoimmune encephalitis. There’s been some really informative responses around this from people who have experienced a similar illness, so I’ll share them with his neurologists. Thank you all so much. He started his immunotherapy too and we get CT scan results today. So praying it’s better news today x

Good luck OP.

As well as the autoimmune encephalitis, have you asked potentially about metabolic disorders? Like electrolyte imbalance or mitochondrial problem?

I am sure they have done tests for that, but just wanted to double check as it’s the one other thing I was thinking of.
