Query re fraud and sick pay

Can a person continue to claim sick pay from their work place if they have moved 3 hours away from their place of work, sold their house and have no intention of returning?

They are still getting their sick line from their old gp and have not told their employer of this change, or their GP by the sounds of things.

I doubt the GP would just keep signing off if there wasn’t a genuine problem. But, if it is a case of playing the system both with GP and work then one gas to balance these things up. If you want ruthless HR and sickness policies from ‘business’ environments rather than from more enlightened and public spirited workplaces then be careful what you wish for.

It is tough when you feel a colleague isn’t being honest, but most people don’t respond to being well treated like this.

i work in oublic services and no one would get their salary paid for years.

six months full pay, six months half pay for those who have maximum service.

also i cant see a GP signing someone off without good reason.

dont stress yourself over it, doesnt sound like your issue.

If a person goes to their GP and tells them they are permanently exhausted and unable to function, the GP might refer to a clinic or other services but they're unlikely to say 'no, I don't believe you, no sick note for you'. The possession of a sick note from a GP doesn't necessarily prove illness unfortunately.

GP has no duty of care to a patient’s employer. That’s why occ health exists.

and if she’s been off for over a year she should have seen occ health multiple times by now for assessment as to what will
get her back to work.

I was in the NHS during Covid. Had someone start Sept 2020 when we still had to exclude staff who had been in contact with positive cases. They worked 3 weeks then said one of their kids had Covid. Then when they were due back their other kid had it. Then she did. Then she had been in contact with a sibling that was awaiting test results. Round and round and round for about 6 months, regular meetings to explore why she was being impacted so often when front line workers weren’t and was there anything she thought she could do to limit hers as her family were apparently super spreaders. She managed a few days before going off with something else.

I had a suspicion and checked in with Test and Trace. She was faking the emails with the positive test results. Next meeting was to tell her that she was instantly dismissed for gross misconduct and would be referred to her professional body. This was her first job post-qualification. We also claimed back the pay she had fraudulently claimed using fake test results.

What you walk by, you accept. This was unacceptable and so it was dealt with firmly but fairly.

Test and trace gave you someone’s private health information? Confused

Quite. It’s an absolute joke and galling for everyone who has been picking up the slack. An embarrassment.

Can you whistle blow?

No. I asked if they could confirm that the emails supplied was genuine. i.e from the right address with valid reference numbers etc.

Around 1/3 were. The others weren’t.
