Job offer possible withdrawal

I interviewed for a job, was offered the job the same day and accepted. I have now completed references, obtained uniform and have an occupational health appointment next week. I was very transparent about my qualifications throughout the application and interview. I have provided my certificates and ID to the recruitment team who stated they had everything they needed (this is an internal move).

The application stated NVQ3 or equivalent. I have alevels which I was led to believe was equivalent, as was the recruiting manager who has stated via email that this has always been the case previously.

HR have now decided that alevels are not equivalent to NVQ3 as there is no practical element. They have now retrospectively applied this new rule to my application and there is a good chance the offer will be withdrawn.

I am devastated and feel this is highly unfair. I understand they need to draw a line however I feel this should be for future advertised jobs and should not be retrospectively applied.

Is there anything I can do? I'm going to ask for a meeting with HR tomorrow.

@deflatedbirthday any update? X

deflatedbirthday · 19/04/2024 17:20

Update!

Im so sorry for the very late update. For various reasons I was unable to provide any more information.

Today I have received confirmation I will be employed in the job I accepted!

It's been a very very long process with meetings, unions, grievances etc. but I persisted and ultimately won!

Fantastic news, so pleased for you OP, but what a thing to put you through

K0OLA1D · 19/04/2024 17:27

Wow op. What a time to leave you! When do you start?

deflatedbirthday · 19/04/2024 17:42

Thank you! I'm so bloody relieved! I have a meeting with the department on Thursday to discuss a start date (I already have everything else!).

I have been extremely humbled by some senior staff who heard about what happened and provided me with a temporary role whilst everything has been up in the air.

@deflatedbirthday thats fantastic news, so pleased for you.

Bulkypeepants · 19/04/2024 22:10

Congratulations! I'm nosy so would love to know what it's taken for this to finally be resolved!

Will they backdate the pay to your original start date?

Hahaha so would I! It's been back and forth since January and a lot of he said she said. I sent a very comprehensive set of very specific questions that I wanted answering before 'I took further action' last week and today I've been informed the job is mine!

Backpay has not been mentioned and I highly suspect it won't be!

Just another update that everything is running smoothly this time!! I've received my contract to sign, pending an updated reference (literally just a re date of the previous one) and my DBS, which has been issued today!

I should hopefully be starting in a week or so 😊

So glad you are nearly there.

deflatedbirthday · 12/07/2024 07:34

Just another little update. I've now done one week of three weeks training for my new role! I officially started on Monday. 😊

What a ridiculous saga it has all been. I hope now the job turns out brilliantly for you. Well done for persisting!

Mumofoneandone · 12/07/2024 08:15

So pleased this has all been resolved in your favour, but what a ridiculous situation.
(No doubt someone wanted to employ a mate/family after the deadline had passed and were trying it on!)

Today I took my first bloods and inserted my first cannula!

And I got it spot on first time!

I'm absolutely over the bloody moon!

Yay, well done! Followed this thread from the start and always hoped for the best as you weren't treated very fairly!
