Friend rang me in hysterics as husband taken away by Police for questioning

Friend has just rang me in hysterics to say they were sitting in a restaurant with family including kids. Husband patted 9 year old daughter on top of leg.

Sometime later Police came and spoke to friends husband, said that skmeone in restaurant rang Police to report that he had touched child inappropriately. Police took him away for questioning. Said they had checked restaurants CCTV and how they'd left uncomfortable.

Police said they would interview friend and daughter in the morning.

Apparently, my friend and husband always pat daughter on leg or bum as an sign of affection.

They will speak to child and my friend tomorrow and I think nothing will come of it. I known them over 25 years and know he is a good person.

I’m so sorry that this happened to you. 💐

Yeah me too. I really hope you got some help processing all that. Such a horrible crossing of boundaries.

If someone was a serial abuser (which he isnt), they wouldn't do it anything in a packed restaurant.

Think it is all innocent, but worried for them as a family about the stress of all this. They've already been through alot lately

It didn’t happen. It is no more real than when you posted earlier tonight about David Beckham gazumping your friend’s wedding.

A warning for patting his daughter’s leg over her clothing?

Are you mental?

No. But you do you and ignore the other posters who say the same as me.

Vapeyvapevape · 10/09/2022 23:53

I just can't imagine someone reporting a father touching his child on the leg and the police call handler sending police so quickly.
How long were they in the restaurant?

Police don't come and take someone to the station for questioning when someone pats a child's leg. It just simply doesn't happen. So it's either made up (what I think) or your friend is minimising (possible) or he's got form and was doing more than patting (probably not).

This with bells on

I'm a police officer and trust me what I say we do not take people away for questioning, for a Pat on the leg ! She's either not telling you everything or she doesn't know everything. But this simply would not happen for the reasons you've said.

Oh, I will. I’m not going to allow anyone’s neuroses to change how I navigate life.

Read it again. I didn’t use any unusual words or complex sentence structure.

You should be ashamed.

That story was doing the rounds years ago.

What do you think would happen?

Would it be plain clothed officers speaking to said child?

Child was crying in background as she wanted her dad.

Ah we have a troll. Ignore them OP

MardyBumm · 10/09/2022 23:56

I don't think there has to be more to it. The police are much better at responding to sexual harassment and assault than they used to be. If someone called the police saying they saw something inappropriate, I wouldn't be surprised if the police made their way down to the restaurant quite swiftly.

I do however disagree that touching a leg or bum always means something perverse though. My mum is a chronic bum patter, has been our whole lives and it is nothing more than endearment on her part. Of course though if a stranger was to see this when we were younger they may have thought differently.

You would be surprised what a users can and do get away with. I wonder if daughter was squirming all those hours they were there as he touched her and that made different tables cal the police causing action. I dont know. Also you can say you know them. You don't really know what happens behind closed doors. There is nothing you can other than wait for police to conclude their investigations. If any of this is true

tolerable · 10/09/2022 23:58

in scotland-you get arrested. then questioned(unless they hung ya awredi)
define "patted"on leg
how heavily?why?was THAT what drew attentoin
how many witnesses?
was the 9yr old disstresed?
nice doesnt equate(publically)to innocence
ANY parent ever may rethink leg tap and recognise ......concerns?come on

MarshaMelrose · 10/09/2022 23:58

I find it hard to believe that police officers turn up on a Saturday night to investigate a father touching his childs leg. 🙄 Don't you have fighting drunks in your town? Maybe it's just where I live but on a Saturday night, you have to do your own policing and doctoring. There are no police or ambulances available.

FiveShelties · 11/09/2022 00:00

Whiteminnowfish · 10/09/2022 23:43

Yes, I am sure they were.

stillvicarinatutu · 11/09/2022 00:00

iF - if - this is true op there is waaaayyyyy more to it .

If the child does need speaking to by police yes it would plain clothed officers in the child protection unit. And if there is an offence it would be a video interview.

But I can hand in heart tell you that no one is taken to a police station for patting a child's leg at dinner .

Jesus we are run absolutely ragged on a Saturday night ! No way would anyone have time to look at this tonight for a pt in the leg .
