Online Furniture Hell

3 months ago before I ordered bedroom furniture (over £500 from an independent online company). I looked at the reviews beforehand, there was a few poor ones but nothing that really concerned me.

I emailed in advance to confirm that the items I wanted was not on pre order & it was confirmed they wasn’t & would be delivered within 10 days. 2 ½ months later I still hadn’t received them.

After loads of emails backwards & forwards, one set of drawers were eventually delivered but were very damaged. I was told that part of the order was refunded as an apology (which was never received).

3 times they have sent a courier to pick them & the courier refused to pick them up because of their size. I asked someone to ring me as there was no point for them keep booking couriers to collect & this happening over & over. All requests for updates about refunding the remaining £300 has been ignored.

After posting a bad review on Trustpilot last week someone finally got in touch on Saturday apologising & I was told a courier was coming Tuesday, it never came & my emails have again been ignored & they are not answering their phones.

I don't suppose I'll hear from them again now, so I'm stuck with a set of drawers that can't be used & spent £300 for furniture I didn't receive.

They are still posting loads of adverts on social media, I posted a message asking for someone to contact me & have now been blocked.

Is there anything I can do or do I just have to accept I have been scammed. I paid by debit card.

Thanks in advance..

You could ask your debit card provider for a chargeback. Do so quickly if you want to go down this path as most card providers will not accept a chargeback more than 120 days after the transaction.

If that fails, send the supplier a letter (email will do) setting out what happened, what you want from them (i.e. how much they owe you), how you've calculated that figure (straightforward if you just want your money back), including copies of any documents you will use to support your case, listing any documents you want from them, giving them a reasonable deadline to respond (28 days is normal) and telling them you will take legal action without further notice if they fail to respond satisfactorily. If they don't respond by the deadline you can lodge a small claim with money claim online (www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome).
