Car insurer doesn't want to pay

Member336569 · 10/12/2019 12:27

Son wanted to avoid a traffic jam and ended up in a pickle. He drove the car into an area and although the engine was running, he couldn't get the car out. He might have hit black ice as the outside was -1c. But insurer already said they wouldn't pay out. Having never claimed car insurance before. I would appreciate some advice. I'm the policy holder and he is the main driver.

Stabbitha is the only nice person here!

Eh? That's rather rude of you.

How can people give you advice when you haven't given any details?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/12/2019 21:25

Could you list in really clear bullet points what happened?

Shmithecat2 · 11/12/2019 21:38

What are you asking the insurer to pay for? The scratch, or the recovery?

LittleDragonGirl · 11/12/2019 22:24

@Member336569
Unfortunately no one can give you any advice unless we actually know what happened with the accident/car.
For us to be able to advise we need to know the particulars of what happened and how it happened. Otherwise all wr can judge is that it's a mechanical failure due to ware and tear. :/

Member336569 · 12/12/2019 05:33

I have found some of you rather rude and some even devoid of simple skill of comprehension. I am NOT fronting. I'm the policy holder and named driver whilst my son IS THE MAIN driver. You can continue to expose your true colour here. I'm not interested in your ADVICE or jokes! Totally uncalled for and irrelevant.

@prh47bridge
he OP quite clearly says, "I'm the policy holder and he is the main driver". It is illegal for anyone other than the main driver to be the policy holder. So she has indeed declared that she is the main driver when she is not.

Your original comment, which I corrected.

Soontobe60 · 12/12/2019 05:44

OP, please understand. Your explanations are not complete so we cannot give you advice.
You have not said exactly what happened to your son's car from start to finish. All we know is there's been some sort of accident, it resulted in a scratched bumper and a tow truck was required.
What was the actual cause of the scratch and tow truck needed?

lifeisgoodagain · 12/12/2019 05:45

Generally the insurance only would pay for recovery if there has been an insurable event eg collision, breakdown including being towed from mud etc comes under the remit of breakdown insurance such as AA.

FrangipaniBlue · 12/12/2019 06:27

I'm reading this that he somehow came off the road (black ice / avoiding a flood ? The how is a bit unclear!) and that although the car engine was still running it wouldn't move to get it back on the road.

Insurance called and tow truck came.

Insurance are now saying that whatever is wrong mechanically that prevented the car from moving was not caused by the accident and so won't pay out.

Stupiddriver1 · 12/12/2019 06:49

Now what’s more likely....?

That every single person on this thread who says there isn’t enough explanation in the OP to know what’s happened has a reading comprehension problem.

Or that the OP hasn’t given enough information and expects people to give pertinent advice even though she still hasn’t said what actually happened and then kicks off when people are guessing?

OP, give your head a wobble.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/12/2019 06:50

I have found some of you rather rude and some even devoid of simple skill of comprehension.

Well, we are finding you rather incoherent and even devoid of the simple skill of making yourself comprehensible.

Cuts both ways, doesn't it?

GuyFawkesDay · 12/12/2019 07:00

Until you categorically, clearly state the facts of the incident nobody can help.

I have professional qualifications in insurance but your pickle and tow thing makes no sense.

What actually happened?

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 12/12/2019 07:01

Unfortunately, the same could be said of you. You have given no coherent information whatsoever yet ask for advice. 🤷🏻‍♀️

misspiggy19 · 12/12/2019 07:07

@Member336569 why can’t you just write a simple, clear and coherent post so posters can help you.

sittingonacornflake · 12/12/2019 07:55

For GOODNESS sake everyone isn't it OBVIOUS what happened. The car ended up in a jar of pickles and OBVIOUSLY OP's son couldn't reverse a bloody great massive car out of a JAR. There clearly wouldn't be enough room to manoeuvre. Bless him he tried his best though and did scratch his bumper in the process. And clearly being submerged in pickle for that length of time has caused the engine to fail. Generally it is not recommended to pickle one's engine for this very reason.

Now can somebody, please, give this poor poster some advice on why her insurer won't cover this claim. Hmm

Literally the best comment ever to grace the internet Grin

PineappleDanish · 12/12/2019 08:43

I think the story is:

OP's son was driving in an unfamiliar area. He took a wrong turn and ended up driving into a very tight space. He couldn't manoeuvre himself out. He managed to scratch the car trying. Then someone called the insurer, said there had been an accident (?) and the insurer (or breakdown company?) sent a truck to recover the car.

Insurer is now asking OP to pay for recovery as the policy doesn't cover not being able to get out of a tight space.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 12/12/2019 08:45

I think he's tried to drive over muddy ground and got the car stuck. That would mean the phrase "although the engine was running, he couldn't get the car out." make sense.

PineappleDanish · 12/12/2019 08:55

Possibly. Into a field or something.

But again, not something you could claim on your insurance for.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 12/12/2019 09:03

Unless you have additional Pickle cover.

SourAndSnippy · 12/12/2019 18:51

I can’t be the only one that thought of Richard Scarrys Pickle Car.

Car insurer doesn't want to pay

Poor Op.
Asked for help. A whole raft of people willing and able to give proper advice but sadly we are too dense to understand. Despite spending our entire working lives reading between the lives.
Good luck with your pickle.
