Car insurer doesn't want to pay

Son wanted to avoid a traffic jam and ended up in a pickle. He drove the car into an area and although the engine was running, he couldn't get the car out. He might have hit black ice as the outside was -1c. But insurer already said they wouldn't pay out. Having never claimed car insurance before. I would appreciate some advice. I'm the policy holder and he is the main driver.

OP posts:
TyrionsNextWife · 10/12/2019 12:30

What do you want the insurers to pay out for? And what reasons have they given?

NeedAnExpert · 10/12/2019 12:30

I'm the policy holder and he is the main driver.

Do the insurers know that?

It’s not clear from your OP what has happened to the car. Is it damaged?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 10/12/2019 12:30

Why have they said they won't pay out?

Finfintytint · 10/12/2019 12:31

Maybe because you are fronting if you are the policy holder but he’s the main driver?

LaurieFairyCake · 10/12/2019 12:32

Did he hit something?

snowybaubles · 10/12/2019 12:34

Maybe because you are fronting if you are the policy holder but he’s the main driver?

That's not fronting.

OP you are not very clear about what happened.

'He got into a pickle' ' he drive into an area' 'the engine was running' 'he couldn't get the car out'

What does this mean? What happened?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 10/12/2019 12:38

Did he go off road to avoid a traffic jam? Is that the issue? Has he driven into a river/pond/wet field?

pootroll · 10/12/2019 12:42

Pay out for what? What damage did he do?

Cordial11 · 10/12/2019 12:42

What did he drive his car into? I’m confused

Coldemort · 10/12/2019 12:46

That's most definitely is fronting.
And its fraud.
Theres your problem.

snowybaubles · 10/12/2019 12:48

That's most definitely is fronting

No it's not.

And its fraud.

No it's notZ

Theres your problem.

We don't know the problem. OP has been as clear as mud.

PremierNaps · 10/12/2019 12:50

Unless you give more information OP then no one can help you. Got into a pickle....what pickle? He went into an area.....what area? Did he hit something? This area he was in should he have been there? More information in needed.

misspiggy19 · 10/12/2019 12:56

@snowybaubles

Fronting is illegal. Definition of fronting:

Fronting occurs when a driver declares to a car insurance company that he or she is the main driver of a vehicle but it is actually someone else who is the main user of the car.

snowybaubles · 10/12/2019 12:58

Fronting occurs when a driver declares to a car insurance company that he or she is the main driver of a vehicle but it is actually someone else who is the main user of the car.

Which is 100% NOT what OP has done

Gazelda · 10/12/2019 13:03

What are you trying to claim for?

NeedAnExpert · 10/12/2019 13:06

Fronting occurs when a driver declares to a car insurance company that he or she is the main driver of a vehicle but it is actually someone else who is the main user of the car.

From the language the OP used I read it that she had declared her son as the main driver, and asked them to clarify in my first response.

So you can’t assume anything.

OrangeZog · 10/12/2019 13:07

It’s only fronting if the OP has claimed they are the main driver when in fact it’s their son, which is not what the first post implies.

AJPTaylor · 10/12/2019 13:17

I give up. What happened. Did he reverse into a ditch/down a bank? Was there any damage to the car?

prh47bridge · 10/12/2019 13:21

Which is 100% NOT what OP has done

The OP quite clearly says, "I'm the policy holder and he is the main driver". It is illegal for anyone other than the main driver to be the policy holder. So she has indeed declared that she is the main driver when she is not.

NeedAnExpert · 10/12/2019 13:24

It is illegal for anyone other than the main driver to be the policy holder.

OH NO IT ISN’T.

It is panto season.

RingtheBells · 10/12/2019 13:26

Is the damage less than the excess

What pickle

leghairdontcare · 10/12/2019 13:26

Can't wait for the op to come back and clear up the whole situation.

snowybaubles · 10/12/2019 13:30

It is illegal for anyone other than the main driver to be the policy holder.

100% not true.

snowybaubles · 10/12/2019 13:31

So she has indeed declared that she is the main driver when she is not.

No she hasn't. She said that is her son. She is the policyholder. He is the main driver. Perfectly legal and not uncommon.

Soontobe60 · 10/12/2019 13:37

@prh47bridge

I am the policy holder on both my and my husband's car. I am the main driver on mine, he's the main driver on his. Both policies taken out at the same time either the same company. Both legal.

My DD drives a company vehicle. The company us the policy holder, she's down as the main driver.

It isn't illegal as long as its declared. What will invalidate your insurance is not declaring someone as the main driver when they are.
