If someone reports you driving without a license / MOT / insurance, do the police still need to catch you doing it before they can act?

It would depend on the evidence I guess. If there was proof you’d been driving you could be charged.

user4567 · 26/08/2018 23:25

If the evidence was just an anon report?

Misswitchy32 · 26/08/2018 23:30

If there's no evidence it's your word against there's. But if you are choosing to drive without a licence an the police have been informed they'll be a marker put on you so if you are spotted driving they'll know your not legal

Fucksgiven · 26/08/2018 23:32

They will take a statement from the reporter then check your mot, tax and insurance. So no need to worry if you're legal, and if you're not you'll get what you deserve

user4567 · 26/08/2018 23:33

So you would still need to wait for the police to catch you anyway then?

OP posts:
PinkBuffalo · 26/08/2018 23:34

If your vehicle is not sorned, then you can be done for the insurance & mot. For the licence you have to be caught/admit to driving before action can be taken against you.
Vehicle needs to be insured even if not being driven I'm afraid.

user4567 · 26/08/2018 23:35

Vehicle appears insured but can the police tell if this is invalidated by not having a licence?

OP posts:
Fucksgiven · 26/08/2018 23:37

No, they will pick you up via ANPR. You will get caught. If its you stop being a dangerous twat. If someone else then report the twat!

AlexanderHamilton · 26/08/2018 23:38

The insurance wouldn’t be invalidated by not having a licence unless it was actually being driven by someone without a licence.

My dh doesn’t have a licence at the moment (surrendered for medical reasons) his car is insured but he just can’t drive it. (I can as a named 2nd driver & fil can 3rd Party)

PinkBuffalo · 26/08/2018 23:38

If you were caught driving without a licence, then we would call your insurance company to see if they would cover you. Most if the time they don't so you would be summonsed for no licence & no insurance.
To be honest, where I am, an anonymous report wouldn't really go far in this instance, we have 100s of reports every day, and they have to be prioritised.
Having said that, it's best if you sort out licence etc so you are driving legally!

Fucksgiven · 26/08/2018 23:39

Why no licence?

user4567 · 26/08/2018 23:42

Revoked

OP posts:
user4567 · 26/08/2018 23:43

Pinkbuffalo
What would it take for the police to be interested then?

OP posts:
user4567 · 26/08/2018 23:44

Alexander.
Only one driver, who drives without a license.**

OP posts:
Nesssie · 26/08/2018 23:45

How about you do us all a favour and stop driving without a fucking license instead of asking pointless questions

user4567 · 26/08/2018 23:47

It's not me. I want to know if it's worth reporting someone and what could happen.

OP posts:
Fucksgiven · 26/08/2018 23:48

If your licence is revoked you can't drive so don't. You will get caught. And prison is a possible outcome. So stop it.

Fucksgiven · 26/08/2018 23:49

Ah, a reverse.

Nesssie · 26/08/2018 23:50

Ok then..

How about you do us all a favour and report whoever it is that is driving without a fucking license instead of asking pointless questions

No license will mean invalid insurance. Also they’ve probably had it revoked for a reason so shouldn’t be driving.

Nesssie · 26/08/2018 23:52

Actually, I apologise, Imma bit touchy about disqualified drivers driving incase you hadn’t noticed... Blush

Please report them and potentially stop a family being ruined.

PinkBuffalo · 26/08/2018 23:53

If persistent calls informing us when the person was actually driving and where, if we have a patrol free they would be sent. But a one off anonymous call when we have literally 1000s of outstanding files to complete? It's got to be proportionate, and we get A LOT of calls with people claiming things and they are not always true.
You need to be caught driving, so we need to know when and where you are driving and have someone free to send test is required for a more urgent call.

Gavlaaar · 26/08/2018 23:55

I've made anon reports 20+ times re this very thing. Also including significant drug dealing info (100k pa being made), extreme (criminal on criminal) violence etc etc

Not a thing happened. The police told me they knew about it, but didn't have the resources to pursue off the back of an 'anonymous' report, even though they knew I was legit. Bloody joke. Makes you wonder why they allow people to report in this way in the first place.

premiertav · 26/08/2018 23:56

Vehicle appears insured but can the police tell if this is invalidated by not having a licence?

That's not how insurance works.

user4567 · 26/08/2018 23:58

Thank you pinkbuffalo.

Nessie. I agree. It's just balancing the potential for destroying a relationship/career etc. But when you put it like you did...

OP posts:
PinkBuffalo · 26/08/2018 23:59

That sucks glavaar I'm really sorry nothing's been done about that. But I know the guys in our area spend their whole shift attending 999s and are completely exhausted.
I work in "admin", and our workload is horrendous.
