Caught for Fraud and arrested yesterday

No excuses as I was caught red handed doing something I really should not have been doing.

I have been wrongly claiming whilst working due to a lot of money issues and now need to face the consequences of my actions.

My recent past caught up with me late yesterday evening when I was arrested at my workplace just before finishing my shift, I then had to go to the police station and have been in there til an hour or so ago.

Scared I will now end up in prison though if I do I know it is self inflicted, looking for any advice.

Zombie thread but fascinated to know…. OP what happened?

DaphneSprucesPippasClack · 13/08/2022 17:01

Rule number one. NEVER BE QUESTIONED THE POLICE WITHOUT LEGAL REPRESENTATION EVER.

Zeus44 · 13/08/2022 17:14

Sounds strange that you were arrested in this manner for what is a paltry sum.

Other things must have been going on.

Zeus44 · 13/08/2022 17:15

Yes never tell the police anything. Literally go no comment to every single thing or remain silent.

If you do need to plead guilty, you can do so when you have sight of advanced disclosure.

You could've messaged the OP rather than bump a 4 year old thread??

My sister did this. Over 5K. Went to Crown Court. Pled guilty, fined and had to pay all back. They do not send people guilty of benefit fraud of 2.5K to prison.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/08/2022 18:08

Arghhhhhhh

onmywayamarillo · 13/08/2022 18:17

Beepbeepenergy · 13/08/2022 19:37

Me too, the amount I’ve replied to recently and realised it’s been from 2007 it’s annoyed me

LidlCinnamonBun · 14/08/2022 00:08

Maybe she went to jail, joined a gang, one thing led to another and now she’s a gang leader committing serious crimes and getting longer sentences and has a face tattoo.

Beepbeepenergy · 14/08/2022 08:27

There are circumstances where "tell the Police nothing" is absolutely terrible advice. This is why you should always have a solicitor.

I would love to know how so many mumsnetters are so very well versed in the workings of the police 😂

Endlesslypatient82 · 24/08/2022 10:06

TV viewing I suspect plays a big part in most posters expertise on this issue!

I have been a police officer for 25 years and a custody sergeant for 14 years. That said, I might be crap at my job! you'll note from my other posts that I always advise getting a solicitor who is qualified and acting in YOUR best interests.

I’m surprised there was no warnings. The amount of people who get their benefits stopped at the merest hint of foul play, yet they rather continue to pay you and play some odd game of cat and mouse for months instead.

There were “warnings” , the OP was previously interviewed - probably under caution because that is what they do, it is a serious interview - by the benefits people and the OP denied all the charges. What other warning do you need that they are on to you? OP continued to claim which is probably what triggered the police observations.
