Upstairs neighbours use my door bell for their visitors. Can any body help me please

Recently i have moved to a new place which having two flats and i live on ground floor flat 1 .We have a communal main door outside which I have my own door bell with flat number on it.But my upstairs neighbours they do not have any door bell outside the main door so when their visitors came or delivery came they people ring my door bell to approach to the flat 2. I have got two young kids and it is very difficult for me to attend unwanted visitors. I asked them why do not you put your own door bell outside but my neighbours were so rude to me even they never bother what i made a request to them . If some body can give me a sugesstion regarding this issue it will be a great help...............

Don't let their visitors in - from a security point of view, apart from anything else.

Make a small laminated sign and attach it firmly to the wall just next to your doorbell saying "For Flat 1 Only" or something similar. I sympathise, this seems very annoying. I don't understand how your upstairs neighbours can possibly think its acceptable to put you through this!

I wouldn't open the door for anyone who isn't your visitor. Just refuse, you're not there as a gate keeper/butler for upstairs.

Switch your bell off for a while. And get your visitors to ring to say they are coming and then knock on your window. Is that possible?

Can you look out of your window to check who is at the door and don't open it for anyone other than your callers?
As a student I used to shout through the closed door 'who is it?' and 'no thanks' to anyone I didn't want to open the door to.

Don't answer it. I got this all the time with another neighbour (who has moved out now)
If its for me (unexpected visitor) I get a text or they ring my phone. Or just answer and say no for security reasons

I would not let their visitors in.

If you are renting - and both have the same landlord - see if s/he will fit a bell. Otherwise I agree with putting the notice up and ignoring their visitors (if you can, without it disturbing your dc).
Don't let anyone in for them - someone did this in a house where I rented a flat: they told the person who opened the door (ground floor occupant) that they were visiting the person in the middle flat - broke in and took a fair amount of stuff. Luckily didn't get up to the attic flat (mine)

Or... Get them a remote doorbell. It'll cost you about £15 but solve the problem fast.

This morning at 8 clock my bell rang after opening there was postman asking me to sign the delivery which was not with my name i asked him could not you read on the post what the address is? he replied look this is your house number and it was right house number without mentioning on it flat 1 or flat 2... in the meantime my upstairs neighbours doors opened and the lady said immediately wait this mail is mine... Shock

what do you think is it really annoying to somebody not to write exact flat number?And they can hear bell from down stairs when somebody came they opened their door for expected delivery and they just mentioned house number not flat number.Means they think i am their gate keeper? really really annoying

I had exactly the same thing. Of the three flats in my building, I was the only one with a bell, and every fucker rang it - so annoying. I put a sign up saying "Flat 2 ONLY" but no one took any notice.

So, I started to open the door and then shut it in the face of anyone calling who wasn't for me, no matter who it was. It pissed everyone off enough that they soon got themselves doorbells.

Refuse point blank to let anyone into the building or take in deliveries. People are so rude, aren't they?

Take the batteries/ unplug the bell......seriously, that's what needs doing.

Take out the batteries for a couple of days. If it's for you, people can knock on the window.

how bloody annoying. I have similar flat set up- only my neighbour has her own bell. Clearly label your bell with your flat number- i wrote mine on with a sharpie pen and it lasts outside for many months before needing going over again. Do not open the door to anyone other than someone you know is your visitor. I'd go as far as to close the door on them if you do accidentally open for someone else- its a security risk not rudeness.

Let your neighbours know if they start hassling you that cheap plug in doorbells are available- no DIY skills needed.

if that happens again- what you say happened this morning - refuse to sign for it. In this case she came downstairs but at other times she may not. I do open the door for parcels for my neighbour and she does for me too but we both have own bells and its the last resort after the courier gets no reply. Also the postie will soon know whose flat is whose, it irritates them too for there to be no flat number (i know because my postman told me once when a parcel for DD had no flat number on it)
