Can I get a UK solicitor to draft a legal agreement to be used in Ireland?

Hi there

need a bit of info. Long story but trying to get just the basics in rather than bore you.

We own a house and land in Ireland and have let our neighbour use the land for a number of years on a verbal agreement.

Someone has told us that he may believe he will have rights after 12 years (adverse possession/squatter's rights?). While we don;t believe this is actually true we would like to draw up a legal agreement where we have in writing that he is renting from us.

My question is, do I need to get a solicitor in Ireland to do this or can I get somoene here in the UK to do it? Will it be legally binding accross the two countries?

many thanks in advance

Use an Irish solicitor. The advice you've been given is a very generalised view of the law in England and Wales, and whilst E&W common law forms the basis for Irish common law (law made by judges where there are no other laws), Ireland diverged on independence in the 20s, so it might well be different now. Anyway, an English solicitor wouldnt have a clue about dealing with the land registry there (do they have one?) and the relevant forms to use.

thanks. The Irish law is pretty much saying he doesn't have a cat's chance in hell but we are going to firm up the rental agreement.
