Loopholes? Elderly home owner wants to move into council warden accomadation.

My 80 year old mother who is widowed and lives alone is losing her mobility to arthritis and really we're so worried about her we'd like her to move into a warden supervised accomadation.
She has 6 children and is adamant that after all her years of hard work she wants the proceeds from the sale of her home to go to her kids and grandchildren, not the state to pay for her ongoing care.
Friends have hinted that she can 'sign' the deeds of the house over to the kids and then move into council accomodation.
Does anyone know how this works or any alternative routes we could take?
If any of you ask, the sale of her house would never afford her a private retirement setting.

she should be able to get appropriate care and support to stay in her home

as was mentioned previously, please speak to age uk ( age conern) ask them what options are available. then also speak to your social services department to see what they say.

then once shes karked it - you can sell the house

so i am talking about asking about things like adaptations to the home
meals on wheels
home help
assessments by occupational therepists

mention the above phrases to social services and age uk and they should be able to give you more information

thanks IMS

I have been googling - it all seems quite complicated

Imisssleeping · 10/08/2010 17:37

Hi it's not complicated to set the wheels in motion.
My mum is very deaf so I have to make the odd phone call but they just take over, go and visit her at home and do an assessment and they fill out all the neccessary forms.
A physio went today and showed her all the extra things she can have.
They have told her they can arrange transport for her to get into town, there is lots of help available just ask.

StewieGriffinsMom, are you referring to me? What'd I say that was patronising?
