So, if you have four children and a three bedroom house, how do you all fit in?

If we did go for four we would have a 10yr old dd, 8 yr old ds, and a 3 yr old dd and a baby.

We have three bedrooms. The dds share the biggest one (not ideal anyway with big age gap) and ds has his own room. If we did have another baby where on earth would we put it?

Just interested to see what others do.

We have four children and a three bed house, but all the bedrooms are the same size (not huge, but no box room to worry about). Dd1 (11) and dd2 (10) share a room, ds1 (3) has his own room, and ds2 (18m) is still in a cot in our room. The other three moved into a bed at 18m in their own room but ds2 doesn't have that option, and I am reluctant to put him in with his brother yet as I feel they are too young to be in there alone unsupervised (I think there might be lots of 5am starts!). So for now he is staying in our room, probably until he is 2 and ds1 is 4 (the age at which dd1 and dd2 started sharing).

Wrt the tidiness issue, dd1 is v. tidy, dd2 is horrendously messy, and it does cause problems. Dd1 has the end furthest from the door so she can "retreat" to her tidy half and not have dd2 wreaking havoc as she passes through, but it's not great and as they hit puberty with avengeance I can see it getting worse ! However that's life and I think it's a good learning experience (plus as GrapefruitMoon says they'll be keen to be independent rather than attached to the apron strings )

Thank you for all the replies

The baby would be in our room for the first year at least anyway, so I suppose rooms wouldn't be an issue for almost 2 years from now.

We do live in a council house, but really wouldn't want to move - we live in a lovely vilage and no bigger houses in hte village! This alos means we cannot extend ito attic space.

Somebody asked about bedtimes for the two dds. Dd2 goes to bed early as she is an early riser, so is usually asleep by the time dd1 goes to bed. Dd1 can turn on light and read without waking dd2

No way ds could share with dd2 - would be a disaster!

So number 4 is still only idea, but it has helped a lot hearing how other people manage, thank you
