Did you have 3+ children in a row of the same sex?

I would just like some anecdata please because I am in turmoil.

I am pregnant with my second boy and I know it's stupid and irrational but I thought I was having a girl. I was convinced that I'd have one of each and it be lovely and all done. This illusion was shattered at my 20 week scan. There was no ambiguity!

My son is lovely, he's so gentle and good natured and sweet, I love him to bits. I am excited to meet this baby and see the brothers bond and play with each other.

But I also think it's magical that I come from an uninterrupted line of women since the beginning of time and find it sad that it could "end" with me.

I feel like I personally know quite a few people who had 3/4 children of the same sex before they got the other and then stopped. I don't want to join that club. I never wanted a huge family and think it looks stressful.

I have some time (but not too much given DP's age) to decide if I want a third. I think I could deal with 3 but 4 would push us all over the edge, not least because of the size of our house!

So anyway I'd just like to hear other people's experiences please.

I come from multiple repeated girls family, i thought my baby would be a boy but it was a girl. We only had the one.
I know seversl of 2 and 3 girls. I know less families of mostly or all boys as I think it requires a healthy and relatively young dad to produce boys. Where the man drinks a lot or smokes it's often girls. I think maternal diet if it's meat heavy makes her biology more amenable to male sperm.

This is so funny to me because both times before I got pregnant my partner was on a health kick - no alcohol, gym 3x.week, sleeping really well. 36 and 38 at each conception so not overly young.

I was vegan for 10 years but went veggie 5 years ago then carnivorous when I was pregnant to help manage GDM. How different things might have been if I got pregnant during a holiday! Xmas Grin

Oh OP, please don't have more children just to try to get a particular sex! Imagine how those kids will all feel either way.

I have a relative by marriage who has a relative with 5 kids. 4 boys and the last one was a girl. All very open about why she had that many children. I can't imagine how the kids will feel about that as they age. They're not very wealthy either so the lifestyles they will have will be significantly squeezed compared to what they could have offered say 2 kids. Of course how many children anyone has and the lifestyle they want to provide them with is their business. I just don't think having more kids just to try and get a particular sex is fair or reasonable to anyone, especially the children.

I'm not going to, I have to think long and hard about what I want my life to look like.

Before I had any children at all I thought I wanted 4. When I had my first I thought I was one and done, I was shocked at how difficult everything was. I felt more open minded when he started sleeping through at 11 months.

If we do decide to keep going after this one it will mean moving house and lifestyle changes so it's really a bigger question than it first seems.

Dh is one of 3 boys
I'm one of 6, 5 girls and the youngest a boy.

We have one of each

It's funny how so many people think having one of each is ideal. I've got 3 the same sex and have a sister myself, and I think there are a lot of benefits to having a sibling the same sex 🙂

Edited

Couldn’t agree more. Healthy is the most important and since let’s be honest you don’t know what you are going to have - wishing or hoping for one sec or the other is ridiculous.

I find that thinking so narrow minded.

BigMuch · 19/12/2024 23:52

My Granny was one of 11. My Great-Granny had 5 girls, then a boy, then another 5 girls.

I know 2 families with 4 girls. Each time you are pregnant you have a 50% chance of either sex, no matter what your previous DC was.

This is not true. After two or more of the same sex you're statistically more likely to have one of the same sex as your existing children.

LightDrizzle · 19/12/2024 23:55

DH is the second of 5 boys, his parents wanted a girl but called it a day after the 5th boy.

A friend of mine is the second of 5 girls whose father came from a strong line of military officers and who was definitely hoping for a boy in the mix but only produced naughty (but nice) daughters 😂

Anxietysux · 20/12/2024 00:08

I have 4 boys. Have a friend who has 3 boys and is currently pregnant with a girl

Happiestwhen · 20/12/2024 03:40

There are slightly more boys in the world than girls 51% boys to 49% girls. If you do decide to try again for a girl OP, look into gender swaying
There are some helpful groups on FB. The main thing is to check your vaginal ph, more acidic ph leans towards girl and more alkaline is boy friendly
If you suffer from thrush you tend to be more acidic, BV tends to make you more alkaline.

Just curious, but all families with 3 children I know, they either seem to have the oldest 2 the same sex, followed by one of the other sex or first one of one sex and then younger 2 same sex. For example B,B,G or G,G,B or B,G,G or G,B,B. Don't know of any where it's G,B,G or B,G,B. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have an older and a younger brother :) and same with my nieces and nephew

QueenofFox · 20/12/2024 07:57

Of the baby group with my eldest, 5 had three kids we all have the first two of the same sex and then the third is the opposite- in my case 2 DDs then a DS, I rarely meet three of the same sex, although someone I work with had 3DS and then DD was her fourth but she really leaned into the old wives tales about where in your cycle you should concieve for a girl.

I agree. I look at my two sons and I just think they've hit the jackpot! They love each other so much!

But then most people care mainly about what they want.

I get thrush all the time 🤪

I didn't think to look into gender swaying, this baby was a bit of an oopsie. We were going to start trying in the new year so that I could enjoy Christmas but alas I got pregnant in September.

My grandmother had five boys in a row

Dutchhouse14 · 20/12/2024 11:56

I have 4
Girl, Boy, Girl, Girl

A friend has
Girl Girl Girl Girl

SIL has
Boy Boy Girl Girl

Another friend has
Boy Boy Boy Girl Girl GIrl Boy

So it's completely random, each time you conceive you have an equal chance of both, what went before is irrelevant.
Having another child because you are desperate for a child of a particular sex is a fools errand imo
Have another child because you want it regardless of sex

It's OK to feel a twinge of regret to not have one of a particular sex but ime all DC are different characters regardless of sex anyway.

I think it's still worth checking your ph if you do go for another, you can get vaginal ph testing strips on Amazon. I suffer from bv and successfully brought my ph down to about 4 from 6.5. So I swayed and conceived a girl , I have heard of a lady who suffers from bv and had girls. It only sways your odds, doesn't guarantee it. But timing and diet is supposed to be important too, sex on ovulation day is more likely to be boy apparently.

vladimirVsvolodymr · 21/12/2024 20:13

"Yes I think this is what I need to really think about, I guess. I had this vague idea that I wanted 2 close together (boy and girl obvs) then a midlife crisis baby 5-7 years later and I wouldn't care what it was"

This was us. Two boys with 30 months between them in our mid to late twenties. Then 5 years after second child, we had an another, a girl in our near mid thirties.
My husband is the first of two boys and a girl but all born with almost 10 years between each child.

ItOnlyTakesTwoMinutes · 21/12/2024 20:18

I was really upset when my 2nd and 4th were also boys.

Honestly, it’s just the best now, yes it’s loud and they fight but they love each other so much and I adore my boys and I just would not have it any other way at all.

Challas · 21/12/2024 20:19

How tall is DH? The taller they are the more likely they are to make boys.

Around me I've noticed this as well. I've got BBG, neighbour across the road has BBG, her next door neighbour has BGG.
But I also have friends that have GB then twins BG, a friend that has BB then twins GG, another friend BGBG. Then there are others with BBBB, GBG, So random.

My daughter's school friend was the youngest of eight., the older ones were all boys. I don't know how many kids they'd have ended up with if she'd have been another boy.

Was her name Ginny Weasley? 😂

5'10/11"

I didn't know there was a correlation!
