Double buggies

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/01/2021 09:19

Any recommendations on double buggies?

Youngest will be a couple of months under 2 when baby is born.

No car. School run twice a day.

Would prefer parent facing and not front heavy.

Would also prefer non massive price tag Wink

I would get a second hand mountain buggy duet. Side by side is much easier to push.

Burningbenches · 10/01/2021 20:04

Totally not what you asked for but I had and loved a baby jogger city mini double with 2&3 (17m gap) and I'll be trying to pick up a second hand one for these 2 (22m gap) It's easy to push, easy to fold, goes through standard doors and in shops. I used it until they were quite big.

I have the single and the bassinet from dc4 so hoping I can use that with a double.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 11/01/2021 06:55

Ty both

I am really torn for what to get!

The mountain buggy looks really bulky and doesnt rear face, can you get a carrycot?

I did look at the baby jogger burning and you cannot use a single BJ carrycot on it as the seats are too narrow

Ive also looked at a cosatto wow xl but i have read its pretty heavy

I have a baby jogger double with carry cot and it's been fantastic. When pushed for time & space I had a newborn insert for the baby and that kept him nice and secure, although I did prefer the carry cot so I could see him.

I still use it now my youngest is almost 2 for longer walks however my eldest is now starting to refuse a buggy at almost 3, I'll be gutted to get rid of it

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 11/01/2021 07:18

Most tandems will be front heavy once the toddler is in there. Unless you go for one where the toddler is underneath, like a Phil and teds. I have a mothercare genie which is great as it converts to a single when ds (3) wants to walk, and I just Chuck the extra seat in the basket in case I need it.

VinoWitch · 11/01/2021 07:27

Out n about Nipper double

user2021 · 11/01/2021 07:33

Loved my iCandy Peach double. £1.5k new but I sold mine second hand for £400 so you'll be able to get a nice one second hand.

clareykb · 11/01/2021 07:35

I had duet for my twins it was amazing and lasted for ages. You can get a carrycot so baby can parent face. My only gripe was it was big when folded but it fitted everywhere when up and was nimbler than lots of my friends tandems.

Soubriquet · 11/01/2021 07:38

It’s not parent facing but it’s the best double buggy I’ve ever had

Out n about 360.

I loved it so much I went and got the single version when I no longer needed a double

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 11/01/2021 07:41

Folding isnt really an issue for us as no car etc

I had looked at some second hand icandys on ebay but they all seemed far away and i dont know if i am brave enough to risk it not being as described

@YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake my reason for looking at the Wow XL was the ability to convert to a single so will last longer, also it has a lot of seat combinations so unlike others you dont have to put the heaviest child at the front which is a def no no for me

I still have my 16 month old parent facing, the thought of having a tiny one facing away makes me sad Sad

Nipper 360. Fab double buggy.

Gunpowder · 11/01/2021 10:30

Three years ago I had newborn twins and a two year old.

My double buggies have been: icandy orange, a mountain buggy nano duo and a outnabout 360 and I also borrowed a duet.

The icandy is lovely as a single - but heavy and a bit stiff to push as a tandem (particularly uphill).

The nano duo is lovely and light and easy to fold, and fits in a tiny boot. You can have the cocoon parent facing. However it’s a bit flimsy if you do lots of walking or when your kids get heavier. It’s small so easy to get on the bus and through tiny door frames.

Out n about it great when you have two heavier kids, it’s very sturdy and brilliant for park walks and uphill pushing. It’s very easy to manoeuvre and push up kerbs but don’t think you can parent face at all.

Duet is a good compromise, baby can face you, sturdier than the nano duo, easy and nimble to push as pp says. I didn’t buy one despite everyone telling me to as none of the shops near me had it in stock to try. I wish I’d bought it blind. Agree it’s bulky folded but if you don’t have to get it into a small boot that isn’t an issue.

Thanks for all the replies

Has anyone any experience of the phil and teds voyager?

Nipper 360. Although it doesn't parent face, it's pros outweigh that for me. I had both double and single versions and they were by far the best buggies I ever tried.

I think you can get a carrycot for it now which you couldn't when mine were little. It's so so easy to push, fully loaded 2 toddlers can still push with one hand. Masses of storage space, big underneath basket and side pockets in the hood are fab for things you need easy access to. The seats are quite tall so easily fit larger older children. The footplate can be used (not officially!) as a makeshift seat for an older child who decides their legs just don't work anymore. I once fitted 5 kids in it ranging from 1-5 years. 2 in each seat and one on the footplate, got us all home in an emergency! Great off and on road. Did I mention it's light to push?

THNG5 · 14/01/2021 10:27

I've got an ABC design zoom. Best thing I ever bought. Seats can be switched front or parent facing, looking at each other etc. I walk everywhere as well. And it had a huge basket. Unfortunately, you can only buy it online here ( I bought mine on Amazon).

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 14/01/2021 10:31

The abc design zoom looks really long, do you find it easy to push?

I think im put off anything that cant parent face, ideally i want to parent face past 6m too

OP posts:
THNG5 · 14/01/2021 10:38

It is long but I find it easy to push. You can parent face with this one. My two youngest are currently using mine. The baby (5months old) is parent facing and my 20 month old is sitting at the front, front facing. She's too nosey to want to look at me 😆

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 14/01/2021 10:40

How is it for getting up curbs with toddler at the front? Also for turning corners in shops etc?

OP posts:
minipie · 14/01/2021 10:43

Another vote for out n about nipper.

I also briefly had the phil and teds - navigator rather than voyager - but the nipper was SO much better. Much easier to push, more accessible storage, better for naps, kids preferred it.

We also had a Bee and once the older one was old enough, we used that parent facing plus buggy board for the older one. But the Nipper was amazing for those times when they both needed to sit or nap.

I would recommend second hand nipper AND/OR second hand bee (or other rear facing single) plus buggyboard.

Justwatchthewildflowersgrow · 14/01/2021 10:45

Have you looked at bugaboo donkey duo? Can have a variety of configurations and can be used as a single and a double. X

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 14/01/2021 10:46

The donkey looks good but i dont really want to spend that much

bloodywhitecat · 14/01/2021 10:47

I've got an ancient Phil and Ted's and a Mountain Buggy Duet, you can use a carrycot on the Duet and they can be converted to parent facing seats. It is great to push and fits through standard doorways so isn't as wide as it might seem. I like both buggys but I think I prefer the Duet.

Twizbe · 14/01/2021 10:50

I got a second hand uppababy vista (got it from a friend) for my two. Was fabulous as a double. I didn't have the second toddler seat so baby was in a carry cot under the parent facing toddler, but can be the other way round.

I really liked that when I dropped toddler at nursery I could take his seat off and either leave it there or fit it under the pram.

Pfb12345 · 14/01/2021 11:23

I'm using a silvercross coast at the moment. Can be a single as well when I don't need it to be a double. Find it pushes well, can be heavy when my 3 year old is in the front but she isn't often now and sometimes she just sits in the basket but I am a bit wary of doing that too much. I tried icandy and wow xl before going for this one, there wasn't a lot in it but I found the silver cross marginally smaller than the wow xl and if I recall it did more seat combos than the icandy. Getting the carrycot out again soon for DC3 due soon, DS will be 16m so they will be in the pram in whatever combo and DD will have to walk or I am looking at the buggy board.. somehow though I can imagine DS using that over DD even though he's younger!

Justwatchthewildflowersgrow · 14/01/2021 12:16

You can get some fantastic condition second hand pushchairs. I've seen donkeys go for anywhere between 200-800 they really are great and you can find some real bargains. X
