Looking for advice / support on having 4 young DC.

I'm in a difficult situation, alone, no family/friends as recently moved to escape DV.

Money is tight as I'm not currently working but I would like to start thinking about part-time work at Easter if I can find a suitable childcare solution. Easier said than done though!

You're spot on ziggy the house really bothers me, gets me down a lot.
But I keep remembering I've only been here for 3 months and I have done a lot in that time. When I wonder why I'm broke I look around and think wow I've got all this in only 3 months too.
Like you say I'll get there in the end it's just frustrating in the meantime!
I have all the paint already though so once the kids are back to school I'll crack on during nap times!

Hi lavent did u find out what happened to the nanny? I hope the car is ok today x

lavent · 21/08/2015 11:26

Car has gone to be looked at..... Fingers crossed!

I have no idea what happened but apparently she will be here on Monday...

mummypig3 · 21/08/2015 14:54

Fingers crossed the cars ok! I hope the nanny turns up Monday. Was she ill? They should really let you know

lavent · 21/08/2015 18:02

Car is fixed was rear ABS sensors making the noise and also the disks had to be replaced as they are attached or something and then the pads were on the way out so also needed replacing or they would soon damage the new disks Confused £200 basically. Am now extremely overdrawn (only until Tuesday) Blush

At least it's sorted though! Phew!

OP posts:
mummypig3 · 21/08/2015 18:19

Oh dear. At least it's fixed now. Thank goodness for overdrafts Grin and only two weeks left of the holidays now!

Wisteria1979 · 22/08/2015 06:52

Glad car is fixed. Does it feel like a good garage you can trust in the future? Sounds like you are doing really well, despite the setbacks and nanny not turning up. At least with the car if the weather is not too grim you can drive off somewhere next week. Sometimes just another park or playground makes all the difference.

lavent · 22/08/2015 17:17

Yes the garage seems good - recommended by a school dad and he even called ahead to let them know he knew me so I don't think they would rip me off.

Stayed at home today and switched around the bedrooms a bit so now DS1 & 2 are sharing (their choice) and DS3 on his own in small bedroom. Also got most of the laundry dry though too lazy to put it all away!

I'm hoping the nanny will take them to soft play tomorrow so they get out the house and burn some energy!

OP posts:
ziggyziggy · 22/08/2015 22:14

sounds like you had a productive day! is DS3 ok on his own?

we went to pick up a clothes donation from a nice lady who has a DS a bit older than mine... :-)

i found lots of four and five leaf clovers on the way back in the park! so hope good luck is on its way... I will try to send some of it your way if it shows up!

hope your nanny shows up tomorrow and gives you a bit of a break!

mummypig3 · 23/08/2015 09:01

Morning! Sounds like you had a busy day. I don't know where you find the energy. Hope the nanny turns up today x

lavent · 23/08/2015 11:25

Yes DS3 is fine on his own. They used to all be on their own before. Also he's had a few days of it already as the other 2 have been sleeping in one room "camping out" Grin

Funny you mention 4 leafed clovers as DS1 found a couple in our lawn! I could do with some good luck for a change!!!!!

Nanny has shown up and taken 1 & 3 to soft play. 2 refused to go with her so he's watching a DVD instead.

I've had a bath and washed my hair as haven't washed it for days Blush I need to get more organised for when I don't have any help at all. Bath & hair in the evening is the only way I think.

Making fajitas tonight - yum yum! Smile

OP posts:
Wisteria1979 · 23/08/2015 13:37

Yep, bath and hair wash in the evenings. 30 sec showers in the morning :) fajitas, lovely! Never served it to the kids as we always eat the hot one, but have been thinking of going for a milder and see if it goes down well. Should be an easy way to sneak a couple of veg in. Planning a few picnics next week but looking at the weather forecast they may be on the kitchen floor.

lavent · 23/08/2015 15:24

No shower Sad something I need to work on at some point! V annoying! Luckily my water is a fixed amount (WaterSure) or it would cost a fortune all the baths we take Shock

I'm still hoping it will brighten up towards the end of the week! We wanted a picnic in the park Smile Rain is so rubbish! Left a couple of things on the line so they're now completely drenched!!!!!!!!

If the nanny turns up tomo (different one to today) I'm planning on nipping to the launderette to dry some stuff.

I didn't have a shower in my old house but luckily one in this one. When I was on my own I would bath at night after putting dc to bed. It's a pain but u don't need one every night. I would do every other night. Mainly to keep on top of my greasy hair, which has got much better since I had dc3

ziggyziggy · 23/08/2015 21:06

these sort of things are ok as an inbetween cheap bath shower attachment thingy until you get a more proper one...

having baths all the time can get a bit tedious and long winded, can't it!

I have to say one of the worst things about having a young baby was the lack of being able to shower in the mornings (until nap time), drove me nuts as I don't feel human until I've had one. I'm not really a "bath at night" person but once in a while you can't beat a good soak.

fingers crossed for sunshine this week and laundry drying!

lavent · 24/08/2015 08:33

I did buy a really cheap version of that and it doesn't stay on the taps but maybe if I got a more expensive one it might work better!
There's obviously been a shower here before as there's a pole on the wall but the housing association have removed it Angry.

Bed wetting disaster this morning as woke to find DS3 had removed his nappy and all his bedding including mattress protector so all soaked and stinky Confused Bleugh!

OP posts:
mummypig3 · 24/08/2015 10:06

I know they always shoot off the taps, I tried a few and all did the same unless I put the taps on very slow but then dribbles out when trying to rinse your hair Hmm is it dry where you are? I've just put my washing on the line. Hoping it dries before rain starts! Perhaps sellotape his nappy on tonight Wink

MazyCrummy · 25/08/2015 14:17

Did you try the backwards babygrow thing? Smile

mummypig3 · 25/08/2015 14:32

Hi lavent. Only just been able to get back on here! How are you all?

lavent · 25/08/2015 17:23

Backwards babygro on tonight!

Went to Pound Stretcher today to look for bargains. Got a few cheap snacks for the DC and a couple of storage boxes. Cheap toothpaste / toothbrushes too.

Spag Bol & garlic bread for dinner tonight - yum!

Going to attempt bath & hair wash later! Such an interesting life I lead Grin

OP posts:
mummypig3 · 25/08/2015 18:29

Good idea with the babygro! My 2 year old doesn't fit in them anymore but he is tall and in 3 year old clothes. How's the baby?

lavent · 25/08/2015 18:36

I've cut the feet off Grin

Baby is fine, rang doctors earlier to ask for more gaviscon as nearly all gone. I can pick up prescription tomorrow so that's good.

Oh dear my energy bill just arrived in my inbox! I daren't look! Shock

Lavent, you really are doing a great job!

ziggyziggy · 25/08/2015 18:44

hi lavent

not sure what energy supplier you are with but I did a switch to the big deal which is the cheapest on the market as they pool people together to make a collaborative deal for the best rate with the energy suppliers, they have an offer expiring in 24 hours at thebigdeal.com/, it might be worth comparing your current one with it to see if you can save some pennies.
