Rain rain rain. How are you managing to dry your clothes?

Yesterday I noticed that my clothes rack had fallen down. When I checked it was probably due to too much clohtes being on it. When I tried to stand it up the metal leg type pole snapped. Other bits started breaking/dropping off when I tried to straighten it

I have a tumble dryer but not too keen to try heavy stuff like towels etc in it.

The other day I got some new radiator racks. Its amazing when I measured it again my older racks they are so much samller.

May need to go to the laundrette.

What are you up too with washing etc?

we have lots and lots of these, cost a pound

and we have lots of these,

handy

heavy duty ones, fixed into joists all over the house,

we have four retractable lines running down the garden,

we watch the weather, if we are due a clear day, we put lots of heavy items through the day before, have it out first thing,

we find that we can keep on top of it all, using the peg hangers, as we can take them in and out quickly, between line and indoor,

If you locate a few of those screw in eyes, at the top of your stair well, you can dry two loads on them over night.

I hate using the tumble dryer it feels like burning money.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 16/07/2012 14:32

I have been using the tumble drier and putting the heating on to dry stuff on radiators.

I am bad.

harrygracejessica · 16/07/2012 16:24

I tumble dry everything that can be tumble dried. I hate clothes hanging around the house drying so this is the quickest route for us.

PipFEH · 16/07/2012 20:16

Tumble dry everything! Life's too short. I use the line if it's sunny, but don't hang over radiators, etc.

BadRoly · 16/07/2012 20:17

Another tumble dry everything - although I did get 3 loads washed and line dried yesterday!

Camelsshouldnteatcrisps · 16/07/2012 20:44

Tumble dry towels and stuff that takes ages to dry.

I wash all day then fill the clothes horse up and hang washing all over the kitchen overnight, I put the dehumidifier on high and shut the door. A lot of it is dry by the morning. Mostly small clothes here though (and only 3DC's so not huge amounts by comparison).

RandomMess · 16/07/2012 20:47

Make them rewear clothes instead of clean ones Grin

Watch weather like a hawk.

Hang clothes straight onto clothes hangers - we put this on the curtain rail in the dining room which is buy the french doors and use those clip things for small items.

Well persistantly horrible tumble dry small items and just have clothes on hangers.

sweetkitty · 16/07/2012 22:38

I have a system, hang on clothes horses for a day then half an hour in the tumble drier. Wash every day, most days twice do not miss a day or you'll never catch up.

Watch weather like a hawk, even a few hours on the line and a tumble dry to finish off.

Today there was about 3 hours when both my ironing and washing baskets were completely empty :O

twonker · 16/07/2012 23:06

sweetkitty you are my role model, I do the finishing off in tumbler thing too, but my basket is NEVER empty! I will try harder! And get the t shirts off the line just now too Grin

MUM2BLESS · 17/07/2012 21:04

Thanks everyone.

Had a dry day today, still looked like it was going to rain though.

quoteunquote where do you get the items you use for drying?

Just had an old-fashioned pulley installed in the utility room. It's brilliant.

I still hang washing outside on ropes when I can, of course, but it dries quickly on the pulley and I finish it off in the tumble dryer for a few minutes to take creases out.

RandomMess · 17/07/2012 21:10

We wash most days too so drying is far easier.

I popped home in my lunch hour to get an extra load hung outside on the line Blush

Housewifefromheaven · 17/07/2012 22:04

Airing cupboard. I can fit a full load of washing in mine :o

LongStory · 17/07/2012 23:00

I have a bit of an organised laundry fetish plus and was well prepared. I have two of these and one of these plus lots of other hanging gadgets in my futility room. They all fold away against the wall but are all very busy at the moment.

imip · 18/07/2012 05:56

Outside where we can and clothes horses with dehumidifier on.....

MUM2BLESS · 18/07/2012 13:13

Very interesting comments thanks.

Its amazing as I am one of 7 kids. We did not always have a washing machine. I remember mum using the giant clothes presser as a child (at the wash house).

In those days nappies were terries too. (Love you disposable nappies, wahisng machine and tumble dryer) Smile

The dehu is filling up every day with the amount of washing and humid weather we are having :(

Wondering if I should be saving the water for the drought when it returns Grin

I too think back to the good old days when there were no washing machines etc.

Thinkingof4 · 18/07/2012 15:23

I've got a pulley too. It's fab, dries and irons at the same time Smile

MUM2BLESS · 18/07/2012 16:17

Raining at present moment.

Today I noitced some laundry (looked like bedding) was drying out on the enclosure of a trampoline. It kinna made me chuckle. Its amaizing what you can use to dry off your clothes. Smile

OP posts:
DandyDan · 20/07/2012 22:53

I've often used the trampoline as a surface to dry clothes but only on warm and unwindy days (we have no enclosure so clothes will blow off and away). The safety pad around the edge can get very toasty in the sun and is good for socks and underwear.

Otherwise it's the pulley-airers in the utility room. We don't have a tumble-drier.

MUM2BLESS · 23/07/2012 15:33

Thanks. Its really warm outside today, anyone got dry clothes outside? Smile

Sighingagain · 23/07/2012 15:37
