The 2 fridge conspiracy evidence is mounting!

I also have two fridge freezers, a huge one in the kitchen and a smaller one in the garage.

It's quite common in the U.S.

quantumbutterfly · 21/06/2024 22:47

I have 2 fridge freezers, but I would prefer to have one huge american style one, I'm a sucker for yellow sticker bargains that often get frozen, and dp has an allotment so seasonal produce needs freezer space too. Bottom drawer of one is full of chillis which I keep meaning to make sweet chilli sauce with.
I was under the impression that you needed to keep meat and dairy separate in a kosher kitchen, am I wrong?

MissConductUS · 21/06/2024 23:01

I do a lot of my shopping at a warehouse club, so I also have a lot to freeze. In addition to the fridge freezer in the garage, I also have a 20 cubic foot upright freezer out there. It’s quite a large garage. 😁

quantumbutterfly · 21/06/2024 23:15

You know that some sitting rooms in the uk are not much larger than your freezer? 😂

Not Jewish, two fridges, three freezers...
What can it mean?

Humdingerydoo · 22/06/2024 07:37

Obviously, the only logical explanation is that @EdithStourton , @quantumbutterfly and @MissConductUS are all secretly Jewish. Not sure why you've felt the need to lie to us?! Explain yourselves!

Milk and meat needs to be cooked separately, not kept separately :) Like, you wouldn't have to do a completely separate milky food shop and then a completely separate meaty one. It can all be done at the same time and stored together.

Some Jewish families do have separate fridges but I suspect that's more because there isn't enough space in just one so they'd need two regardless.

Growing up, we had a spare fridge in the basement that was only ever turned on and used before a major holiday when my mum would be cooking for 40 people, often including some with specific dietary requirements like veggie and gluten free. Even then it often wouldn't be enough and my parents would have to call up a friend and ask to use their fridge for a bit too 😅

I have been to a couple of Jewish weddings and a bar mitzvah....

quantumbutterfly · 22/06/2024 10:28

I like a culture that expresses support with food, it's my love language too. I'm not knowingly Jewish 😁but we're all sisters under the skin.

I've been reading a bit about mitochondrial DNA and how it's matrilineal, am I right that your faith is also matrilineal?
I only have sons, I'm my mother's only daughter, she was her mother's only child, my mitochondrial DNA stops with me. Western culture sets such store by sons because they can carry forward family names but under the skin your mother's contribution can be traced back millenia.

It's almost like you seem to consider Jewish people as, well, just people. It's quite refreshing 😂

And yes @quantumbutterfly , it's generally a matrilineal religion although I believe Reform Judaism (not to be confused with the political party 😳) allow it to be passed down from the father too. I could be wrong there though, I'm not exactly clued up on it!

Mitochondrial DNA is a really interesting topic, I did my undergraduate dissertation on it. It was approximately eleventybillion years ago though so I can't remember much about it, or even what exactly my dissertation was about 😂 But it's a genuinely fascinating topic. How come you're reading about it? I've also only got boys so I've always been secretly pleased that they may carry my husband's name and they may look like his clones, but they're secretly more me than they are him 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I Win Winner Winner GIF by The Original Donut Shop Coffee

3 freezers, two chest and one attached to one of the fridges.

MissConductUS · 22/06/2024 12:16

@Bowib, I may have you beaten by virtue of sheer size. Behold the garage upright freezer (20 cubic feet), the garage fridge freezer (18 cubic feet), and the colossal 25 cubic foot kitchen fridge freezer. Yes, we do love cats.

I have long suspected that I am secretly Jewish. I love Jewish culture, history and having Jewish friends.

You may well have Jewish blood somewhere @MissConductUS . I know that my father's family hid it for decades and when it became clear it was like 'Oh well that makes sense then!'.

I'm Reform, and my father is from a matrilineal line. But I know that in our synagogue no-one questions my right to consider myself Jewish- even though my mother converted when I was an adult. The Rabbi who guided her through that just shrugged and said about me 'You would be Jewish enough for Hitler'.

I consider my Dcs to be Jewish through and through- as indeed does my CofE DH.

We have two fridges. But that is because DH is as close to a raw food vegetarian as makes no difference and his various vegetables take up a very great deal of room. I and the boys have a mini bar fridge with our food. I shop every day really so we don't need more than that for the 3 of us.

Oh- and talking of Jewish people via a matrilineal line- just watching Star Wars with the Dcs and Harrison Ford is one of us. His mother was Ashkenazi via Minsk.

(I admit this is a bit of a segue, but it makes me happy).

Got sidetracked by a recommendation from mn to read 'the seven daughters of Eve' (half science/half story).

Also am considering the first step of a journey to turn my chemistry experience into molecular biology/genetics experience, I was never a good student but I have personal motivation to be a better one now.

Well, until you guys get all the space lasers and take my freezers away. Then I may have to rethink...

I could probably be lured back with a good Shabbat meal though.

quantumbutterfly · 22/06/2024 12:47

@MissConductUS I've just noticed how much ice cream you have in your freezer door.😁

@MissConductUS I've just noticed how much ice cream you have in your freezer door.😁

Guilty as charged. 😂

My 24 year old DS lives with us and is an ice cream connoisseur. My 22 year old DD also loves a bit of ice cream, but is currently on her honeymoon and will soon be moving out. And the ice cream supply expands to fill the available space. It's like a law of physics. 😃

quantumbutterfly · 22/06/2024 14:24

My ice cream radar was triggered..I see lots of haagen dazs.😁.

Obviously with my pitiful storage opportunities I must tidy up any available ice cream at home to make space.

MissConductUS · 22/06/2024 14:30

Did you see the warehouse club sized box of chocolate bars dipped in dark chocolate? Those are on the second shelf from the top, and very popular chez Conduct. 😁

25milesfromhome · 22/06/2024 14:59

All this fridge freezer chat has made me feel deeply inadequate. I have a normal sized fridge freezer plus a tiny little overspill freezer that lives under my kitchen table like an annoying little humming troll. My life is a constant cycle of food storage Jenga.

SpuytenDuyvil · 22/06/2024 16:31

You are all hilarious. We don't even keep kosher (shanda!) but in that American way, we have a very large fridge freezer in the kitchen (French door, bottom load, stainless steel KitchenAid) and a full sized fridge freezer in the garage mainly filled with DH's beer. I bow down to @MissConductUS

We have an American-style fridge freezer! I always wanted a double door fridge. It's just a shame the freezer is so useless. Why did someone think a drawer would be the way to go?!

Humdingerydoo, I found it quite confusing when people on MN were talking about American style fridges with the side by side doors. Here, those are called French door style fridges, as SpuytenDuyvil, has in her post, and they're not that popular here because the freezer compartment is so narrow. You can't put a good-sized frozen turkey or large frozen pizza in most of them.

I haven't been to church in a few weeks because of my daughter's wedding, a funeral we had to attend and the rector deciding to do the service outdoors last Sunday, also known as "mass on the grass". So I'm going to make an effort to go tomorrow. The church was built in the 1840s, but they retrofitted air conditioning a few years ago. I'll have to pray for guidance about all of the signs of my secret Jewish heritage. 😁

Here's a gratuitous picture of the cactus in my front garden flowering. In normally waits until July or August, but it's been hot here, 35C or so most days this week.
