Why am I not surprised that people on the Halal thread on AIBU feel the need to say "if you think Halal slaughter is bad, you should see what the Jews do!". Kashrut isn't the topic of conversation so why is it even being mentioned? 😩

It's like a version of Godwin's law isn't it except Jews not Nazis.

I haven't looked at the Halal thread but the other one was just awful and mad it was allowed to run so long. There was a post this morning which I think is probably one of the most racist posts I've ever seen on Mumsnet. I reported some posts but actually cringed to fuck at all the "try replacing that with Jews and it would get taken down". 😂I mean FFS. I also reported an entire antisemitic thread the other day. HQ said they'd look into it. Obviously it's still up.

That thread today was no worse than some of the antisemitic shit we've had to read on CITME the last 8 months. The only difference is a lot of them have learned how to use the "Zionist" code while they wax lyrical about Jews and Jewish beliefs till their heart's content. Absolutely no difference to the anti-Muslim thread today.

Yes the anti semites are absolutely loving the word "Zionist" aren't they!? Gives them cover, or so they think.

I didn’t see that thread 🤯
the white Jews thing came up yet again - I’ve challenged the Jews are white thing so many times, I literally don’t even care anymore, it’s just an eye roll and move on.

humdingery I’d love space (and money) for a second oven before a fridge. I have to clean and kasher my oven whenever I want to make milky, or it has to be microwaved.
you have to make the food for yourself, the kids will hate on it whatever you do 😅 I made ottolenghi’s shakshuka last week, and was mega spicy, and it was enough for about 4 people so I just had it for breakfast (with fresh eggs!) every day 😋 I didn’t even bother showing it to the kids 🤣

Yes, I was very much not a fan of the "replace it with Jew" comments. I'm not sure why we had to be mentioned? Why do Jews have to be mentioned in a conversation about Islamophobia? And by the way, the answer to OPs question is clearly "yes, people do hate Muslims". And they don't even try to hide it! It's so utterly revolting. Obviously we've been on the receiving end of similar comments for 8 months** now but it's still pretty shocking to see it happen to others too. The level of hatred is so disheartening.

** In reality it's been years, I've personally dealt with anti-Semitic comments since I was a child, but this most recent increase started 8 months ago.

I didn’t see the other thread, but the same comments about replace it with a Jew thing was on the halal thread too. I think it causes splitting and divisiveness between Muslims and Jews, because it is essentially pits us against each other. Probably just people stirring the pot. It’s not a zero sum game - We should be each others biggest allies! We know exactly what religious hate feels like.
I also report when I see anti Muslim comments.

The thread you missed was absolutely awful. Like, truly awful. Basically "here are the reasons we hate Islam and you can't call me Islamophobic because I'm not scared of Muslims". The literal translation of Islamophobia is just as pathetic as when people say they aren't anti-Semitic because Palestinians are Semites too, dontcha know?

Yes, it's very much an attempt at further increasing hatred between Jews and Muslims. As if further help is needed in that area 🙄

I actually didn't report comments on either thread this time as I wasn't sure if maybe they'd want them to stand so they have proof of Islamophobia next time someone tries the whole "well I've never seen it so it must not happen" gaslighting approach that we're so familiar with ourselves 🙃 I do normally report Islamophobic comments though and frequently get into hot water for calling people out on it 😅 Both online and in real life

Oh yes for sure. I just meant the crap on Mumsnet since October.

The 'white Jew' thing really, really gets to me. It's wrong and explicitly used as an excuse to be antisemitic. We're too white for the far left and too brown for the far right.
I don't think it's even coming from a place of ignorance, although obviously it is for some. But for those who are otherwise intelligent it's absolutely deliberate. Because that CRT Kool-aid isn't going to drink itself and we're just white European colonisers apparently.

79Helene · 19/06/2024 20:41

@Humdingerydoo Agreed, it was terrible. The one I reported was some twat saying "of course I don't like you" and then listing every reason why. Extremism on the left and right is making life very difficult for both Jews and Muslims. Folk think they can just say anything now and will get away with it. It's so sad it's causing so much mistrust between both groups.

It's really scary that parties like Reform and Le Pen's National Rally are becoming so strong, and I hate that they're using Jews just to get at Muslims.

I couldn't stomach the Halal burger thread. I had to leave it.

Love the idea of a joint Muslim and Jewish moany thread with recipes though.

What recipe would you share with someone unfamiliar with Jewish customs and traditions?

CloudyAgain · 19/06/2024 21:20

I think there is alot of common ground tbh particularly with Sephardi cooking.

But for me it's all about a decent roast chicken. My friend makes a roast chicken with a honey, cinnamon, sesame seeds and fresh orange juice marinade.

And shakshuka of course.

That chicken sounds immense!! I reckon even my kids would eat that. Possibly. Assuming it's served on the right colour plate, of course.

Humdingerydoo · 19/06/2024 21:28

(can you tell it's been a really long few days with my youngest child 😂😂)

CloudyAgain · 19/06/2024 21:30

It's my current favourite. Smile

But I have also discovered the joys of tossing copious amounts of sweet paprika, garlic powder, turmeric, mixed herbs over everything thanks to my current favourite youtuber Sonya from Sonya's prep, who is Orthodox Sephardi. She has transformed my cooking which tends to be very thoroughly Ashkenazi based.

I flipping love a decent beef-based borscht though.

CloudyAgain · 19/06/2024 21:32

I hear you though @Humdingerydoo . My oldest is 14 and has sensory issues relating to food. Only raw vegetables except for chips and nothing that 'mixes' like stews or casseroles. Nothing with sauces or gravy. No soups except for Heinz tomato. I got excited when he started eating cheese toasties but it did not last.

I cook to show love so it's been a bit.... challenging.

Oh yes, I think you've mentioned her before! Will look her up. You should have a look at Ruhamasfood on Instagram. She makes some amazing yet easy recipes! She's Iraqi so even my MIL approves of some of her recipes

Chicken schnitzel and cherry tomatos. No sauces. He does eat romaine lettuce leaves now and occasionally cucumber.

Oh, and we spent the Easter holidays in Germany and he went a bit crazy over pretzels.

Today he ate a slice of tinned peach!! That was pretty surprising!

Nothing can touch though so every bit needs to be on it's own plate.

I really hope you've got a dishwasher if he's using multiple plates per meal 🙈 The things we do for our children though, eh?? Do you make your own schnitzel? I can't work out whether or not it's worth the effort and inevitably sticky, gloopy fingers I'd end up with

is that a deliberate pun... it tickled me 😄that's so hard cloudy, I have two HFASD kids, and one went through a stage when he was little where everything had to be square. This meant that he ate in square bowls, with his cutlery in a square around it, and then he would have one bite of his food, and of course now it did not touch the edges, it wasn't square, so cue meltdown. Not fun!

I bake schnitzels, humdinger, there is a great recipe in dinner done. Fried is too oily for me, although my kids rave about my mum's schnitzel, because she fries them.

We would of course have to share our recipe for cholent 😇(and not warn anyone about how it looks cooked...)

Demonizing Israel on MN too. That boycott thread .😩

0palfruitsalad74 · 20/06/2024 08:03

The demonisation of Israel on here is like a parallel universe. I've noticed that whenever anyone shares a story about an Israeli protestor, a load of people will turn up to say "So brave ❤️" like they're facing 50 lashes or something, rather than exercising their democratic right in a country in which protests are going on all the time. Crackers. See also "apartheid", wtf.

I started reading that thread when it was in aibu but quickly abandoned it - it was a useful reminder of why I no longer read the CITME board! So much hate.
