This thread is making me hungry. I have not eaten cholent in years.

As for the thread on CITME, it's just one big derail-fest.

EllaDisenchanted · 09/06/2024 12:33

How could talk about cholent make you hungry?! I worry about people, I really do 😄The stress is definitely getting to you all. look up the pic of corbyn, guaranteed you’ll lose your appetite

EllaDisenchanted · 09/06/2024 12:35

Jokes aside @EdithStourton cholent only tastes good on shabbos, or at a pinch on Thursday or Friday night. And if you’ve ever had to wash up a baked on cholent pot, and scrub the slow cooker, you’ll know why it had to have been a Jew who invented slow cooker liners …

I’m not mega keen on sabich. I think it’s the egg and pickles together that doesn’t do it for me.
humdingery you remind me of my friend - if you start to interfere with a I know better way (unasked for) the job is yours for life 😅

Edited

Your friend sounds pretty cool and utterly delightful!

And why am I not surprised you don't like sabich?! You've got all sorts of crazy food-related opinions. Let me guess, you prefer pickles in vinegar over those in brine?

She is awesome 😎 takes no prisoners with this sort of thing in the best way.

i like all pickles 🥒

you’re just going to have to come for a Shabbat, I’ll make you all my faves 😅 I actually love spicy, intense flavours, mostly more than sweeter Ashkenazi cooking, but my family are not all on board, and there is something lovely about cooking family tradition foods too

Agreed, food that's traditional in your own family is the best! There is a soup my grandma used to make and I had lots as a child. My mum kept making it after my grandma passed away and now I make it for my kids. Objectively - it's not very nice 😂 But it's one of my favourite things ever! It's known as "Grandma's soup" but in my mother tongue. My mum confided just a couple of months ago that my grandma only made the soup because they were short of money so she just threw a bunch of stuff together... Honestly, it's one of my favourite things to eat.

We have Savta’s sponge cake (my great grandmother’s recipe). Apparently my grandpa used to go on about how his mum made the best rice pudding, and so my Savta made him endless versions and none of them were right. The one day she just opened up a tin of rice pudding and apparently that was exactly the same as how his mother’s tasted …. !😁😂

I like the sound of sabich! And thank you so much @EllaDisenchanted for the cholent recipe. Smile I will try it and report back. DH is a vegetarian and DS1 has sensory issues around food (although yesterday he ate a Moroccan lamb tagine with great gusto until he asked what the meat was - I said I'd tell him when he was finished- and then he said 'I HATE LAMB' with enormous outrage at my perfidy. )

quantumbutterfly · 09/06/2024 13:25

I love tinned rice pudding but my family don't so we don't often have it.Reminds me of childhood camping holidays where food needed to be easy to store and faf free to cook. Warm creamy rice pudding is comfort food for UK summer weather.

Isn't it sad that we need warm comfort food even during the summer?

quantumbutterfly · 09/06/2024 13:46

I love UK weather, gives us something to talk about because we get so much of it, sometimes in one day.
You can't acclimatise to heat because it doesn't last so we complain it's too hot till it's cold then we can complain it's too cold.

I think the seasons are shifting though, we haven't had noticeable snow round here (south east) for a couple of years, and the plants are coming into flower much earlier and later in the year.

I just like food... Also, my Jewish landlady was a good cook.

RivkahRose · 09/06/2024 20:36

It is reassuring the more I read that there are more of us out there who think the CITME board is completely nuts. I’ve been jumping between this thread and the 4 hostages thread. I’ve seen more people saying they just don’t go on that board anymore or much at all for the same reasons as me. It goes to show there is hope out there still.

my grandma made the best chicken soup and bubalehs 😋

79Helene · 09/06/2024 20:41

My favourite today was a poster who told me she felt sorry for me because I refused to entertain her ridiculous conspiracy theory.

That was a 'fun' thread. I am glad they finally deleted it. The support that poster received though... Utterly gross.

Humdingerydoo · 09/06/2024 21:09

@RivkahRose do you mean bubaleh as in the Pesach pancake?? 🤤🤤🤤🤤

0palfruitsalad74 · 09/06/2024 21:17

I've been avoiding that board recently and ive had a much more pleasant MN experience as a result. But I made the mistake of reading the thread about the 4 hostages on a long car journey today. Has it really gone? I haven't checked back. What a shitshow. It does seem to be becoming an extreme sort of echo chamber, with anyone holding moderately nuanced views increasingly keeping away. I can't believe the hatred on there, it's quite frightening.

I'm pretty aghast at the BBC reporting on these events too.

It was another thread that got deleted - one that was purely about some conspiracy theory to do with how October 7th was orchestrated by both Hamas and Israel 🤦🏻‍♀️ because as we all know, they work really well together as a team.

Ahhhh they're soooo good! I've always wondered why people bother with matzah brei when they could have bubaleh instead! Better food and a better name

Ah OK. Crikey, didn't see that one 😱 although I have noticed certain individuals insinuating that kind of thing before.

Humdingerydoo · 09/06/2024 21:29

You're right, it's by no means a new theory. That doesn't mean it's any less batshit though 😅 I remember people online saying already on October 7th that Israel was probably in on it.
People really, really love to hate Israel. They've often seemingly formed their whole identities around it 🤷🏻‍♀️ Each to their own, I suppose.

Certainly has! I did see some trying to discredit me an' all. 🤷‍♂️🤣

Saw that ridiculous conspiracy thread too about 7th Oct. People believed the same rubbish about 9/11 which doesn't make sense. Crap like those get debunked over time.
