Has anyone has treatment here, particularly NHS but just generally. Freaked out seeing some negative reviews on Google. But also some positive.

Hello! I have had IVF at Care Bath. Unfortunately my round didn’t work but it wasn’t down to their treatment so I’d say it was a positive experience of the service. However, I don’t have anything to compare it to… I don’t believe that you’d be treated any differently whether private or not. Good luck :)

I looked at having my treatment with Care in Bath but decided against because a friend had treatment here and her egg collection seemed to be pretty traumatic. I think Care don't use the same amount of sedatives that other places do. I went with the BCRM and had a positive experience.

worldwidetravel2017 · 16/06/2025 11:31

I slept through my egg collection there. I went ' ouch ' once and was instantly given something more in my arm .

They have some fantastic members of their team.
Very happy with our consultant.

Wisteria25 · 16/06/2025 12:53

Thanks all that’s really helpful.

if you were NHS, how long did you wait for first appt? Apparently they don’t use the NHS app either so just have to wait to hear when first appt it (no idea if you have to get to the top of the list then get an appt, or if we’ll get a date soon but with a long wait)

I think it was about 6 months. Because my GP wouldn’t give us even an estimate of timeline we ended up paying for some things privately (initial consultation, starting letrozole) but once the NHS referral caught up it actually wasn’t too bad. However, if you are worried about time (age etc) and can afford it then it could be worth doing a similar thing

Oh wow that is a long time! Yes we’ve done similar and started some private investigations. I think I read you only get one cycle if we need IVF, and plus with waiting time, I can’t bare to just wait so hoping what we do now might work anyway, and if not at least we’ll have more knowledge or things looked at

@Wisteria25 - hi - which age ish bracket are you if u dont mind me asking?
Have you had amh _ / ovarian reserve tested privately?
We had amh done privately prior and gave them all that info when the time came etc

Also - have you had a hyfosy lately ?
Private = faster than nhs wait. We paid 505 gbp 4 ours

worldwidetravel2017 · 16/06/2025 13:56

If your doing ivf as a couple - has your OH had SA done ?
( we used the ' super drug ' private one that looked at 3 things)

Wisteria25 · 16/06/2025 14:24

Hi @worldwidetravel2017 yes DH had semen analysis, slightly low morphology so got a retest booked.
I’ve had AMH in the last 6 months and was fine, and ultrasound. Haven’t had a hycosy though.
Currently trying a few months of Cyclogest as progesterone was slightly low.
have had 2 chemicals, I’m 33.

For my area (Wiltshire) you get one fresh cycle and one frozen, not sure if that is helpful to know.

Hyfosy = foam
Hycosy = dye

Maybe consider getting tubes checked sometime

We had miscarriage history - yet my tubes were later blocked

Somerset = just one cycle

worldwidetravel2017 · 16/06/2025 14:32

We paid for pgta testing as an add on , ( private)
To our NHS round

Oh right, I didn’t realise the OP lived in Somerset. I live in Wiltshire but my clinic is still the Bath one, so I assumed that might be the case for others…

Its to do with the funding board that gp 's falls under i believe

Ah yes we’re Wiltshire, that’s good, so one retrieval but two transfers (one fresh one frozen)? If you have additional embryos from the IVF round can you pay for transfers privately?

Oh ok I didn’t realise there were too different ones! Do you mind me asking where you had it done? I wondered if there was any benefit to having any private treatments at Care before NHS appts

Some areas of Wiltshire used to have 3 rounds

You can pay for frozen fets at Care

( care = nhs patients & private patients )

Basically - most private clinics will offer hyfosy and / or hycosy

Just Google private hyfosy and put in your nearest city etc

Theres clinics in Bristol that do them .

Ultimately - any private results will likely be considered by clinic / consultant

Some stuff has to be within a certain time frame of egg coll
( like some bloods clinics do )

You could tell your nhs gp your waiting on a referal
And in the mean time , & telling them your history - you could ask nhs gp to blood test
Prolactin
Feretin
B12
Vit d
Thyroid

..
Tne book - it starts with an egg - is good

Also - randox health are good for privately checking progesterone levels 7 days after ovulation etc

Hertility health ( private) are very thorough for tests for female too

Yes that’s correct :) I’m not sure about extra embryos (my first and only cycle got me only one embryo) but I imagine they would allow you to pay for FETs and storage

thank you ☺️ and I did think after saying that it was presumptuous to assume I’ll get any at all!

Ah yes done all of that except hyfosy/hycosy - much research has been done 🤣 also doing acupuncture and she’s recommended some more tests

OP posts:
worldwidetravel2017 · 16/06/2025 16:36

You can def freeze embryos

Cost - 33 quid a month or such .

The nhs funding usually covers cost for approx 11 months after your egg collection / embryo creating

Wisteria25 · 05/08/2025 07:57

If anyone looks at this in the future and interested in timescales - my first appointment is 8 weeks after GP submitted referral which was much much faster than I expected.

Nervous for first appt and hoping it is helpful - I’ve had some tests already so not sure whether all will be repeated or what they’ll suggest
