How many pgta normal (euploid) embryos did you get per cycle?

Hi ladies,

Just as the title says really. I am 37 amh 30.1 no issues. dh 42 ttc for 1.5hrs not a hint of a bfp. Found out we have mfi antisperm antibodies. Tried 2 iuis no luck. Now moving onto split ivf icsi in july. Our consultant has suggested we pgta test. We are looking at access as you get 2 cycles but you can't bank embryos as it just occurred to me if we were lucky to even get one euploid in our first cycle assuming it'd implant we'd have none left for a sibling.

If you pgta tested how many euploids did you get per cycle? And was it icsi or ivf?

Thanks

I was 37 at time of cycle. My amh was 31 (when checked year before )
I got 19 eggs, 5 embryos , 2 euploids. First one stuck and I’m 39 weeks now.
my dh has a great sperm count and no known issues but my clinic did icsi. When I questioned why they said they always use icsi when doing pgta.
good luck with everything.

Oh wow that's amazing news. Congrats on your pregnancy you must be over the moon. Thanks for sharing that! May I ask what protocol you were on? Our consultant has suggested short protocol, burselin trigger with letrozole and heparin as I get hormone migraines. Thanks

I was on a short protocol. I can’t really remember what meds I was on to start but I did trigger with burselin as well due to ohss risk. They monitor you closely for ohss during the cycle and I remember they phoned me and told me to take the burselin instead of the other trigger due to some blood test being high. I was on a lot of stuff and it’s all a blur now to be honest. I think I may have been on heparin for a short while as well. Oh and I had no hint of a bfp in almost 3 years before the ivf, apart from a miscarriage of a chromosomally abnormal pregnancy 2 years before. That’s why pgta was recommended and some of the best embryos I had were complex abnormal.Wishing you lots of luck.

Needamiracle12 · 12/06/2025 15:47

Thanks @TheIceBear

I really hope it works for us. I am now thinking maybe just go for access as atleast we have a backup cycle and hope for the best. It'd be a blessing to have one child at least. Did you just pay for one cycle upfront? Sorry for all the questions x

OP posts:
TheIceBear · 12/06/2025 15:54

I was going to go for access x 2 or 3 cycles but the clinic I have won’t let you bank embryos and do pgta or do pgta as an add on with access. I also had to pay for up to 4 embryos to be tested up front before the ivf. In my clinic they don’t let you just see how many embryos you get and then test (which is a bit crappy in my opinion but anyway) So i had no choice but to pay for a cycle upfront as it’s the only clinic that is convenient to me. I appreciate I was lucky with my cycle. I can see why you would think of going for access, I would have done the same if it were available to me but it wasn’t.

GreenLemonade · 12/06/2025 21:26

I did 3 cycles:
#1: 1 euploid
#2: 0 euploids
#3: 1 euploid

First cycle was ivf, the other 2 were icsi. Fertilisation rate was low, under 50%, so my doctor suggested icsi to see if it would improve it. It didn't.

I was 39 with low-ish AMH.

That's a bit annoying but it worked for you. So now we're actually thinking of just paying for a cycle upfront. Access told us even if we have a low grade embryo from the first cycle we have to use it before we can move to the next. If it's a viable embryo they don't let you discard it either which I thinks absurd. If that happened to us we'd probably bank the embryo and do another cycle to see if we could get a healthier embryo

Thanks. This is really interesting thanks for sharing. I've noticed a few ladies on here have said they actually achieved better fertilisation with ivf. I've heard it depends on how good the lab is too

Bumping anyone else?

OP posts:
sirensong · 14/06/2025 19:04

The average rate for your age is about 40% but what people actually get is completely individual and ranges from all to none.

Thanks. I feel like most anecdotes of people around my age from what I've seen they end up getting just one which does make me sad

Many aneuploid

It's so tough isn't it. Yeh we're definitely doing pgta. My husband thinks maybe we ought to just pgta test the icsi ones though as its forced fertilisation. Did you do icsi or ivf? X

Ivf

Hi @Needamiracle12 I did a cycle of ivf when I was 38, I got 6 blastocysts, 2 were euploid one was no result and the rest were aneuploid. Both of my euploid pregnancies were successful following natural modified FETs x

Hey that's amazing I am so happy for you. Do you by any chance remember what protocol and stim dose you were on? Our consultant has said short protocol burselin trigger cetrotide not sure what fsh or dose yet. I feel so nervous. Its our first cycle and I really want it to work. I have a fear of surgery so its not easy x

@Needamiracle12 thank you ☺️ I was on a short protocol, I think menopur was part of it. I wouldn't compare though, your protocol will be tailored to your body. Re fear of surgery, I'm presuming you'll be under general anaesthetic for egg collection? When you get to transfer you can always request something like diazepam to make it a bit easier. I did for both my transfers which helped a lot. Have you had many internal scans? I was worried about them but I focused on my breathing and reminded myself I was putting myself through all of it for very good cause. Wishing you all the luck!

Yeh you're right. I guess I am trying to find the best protocol but obviously no such thing. Yeh for egg collection it's deep sedation. I think i am genuinely just terrified of sedation and the egg collection as there's so many things that can go wrong. My belly does flips when I think of someone sticking needles into my ovaries. And I find it all so undignified. Thanks for the tip about transfer. I just hope we get to the transfer stage. Yeh I've had internal scans. They're ok I guess just feel uncomfortable embarrassed etc. But I hate it when they press down - not like they're gentle! Thanks X

@Needamiracle12 I don’t have fear of surgery I admit but I have to say I found egg collection a breeze and I had the sedation. I don’t remember any of it after she gave me the sedation. Next thing I woke up as I was wheeled up in a trolley to where my husband was waiting. I felt out of it for a while afterwards but in a good way! I wasn’t even sore the next day and went out shopping and they took 19 eggs.
The worst part for me was waiting for results, seeing how many embryos made it first. then I’d to wait 6 weeks for pgta results (I don’t live in the uk) which was really tough.

Hi thanks for sharing this definitely makes me feel less worried!, gosh I hope my experience is as positive as yours. They've said I am at risk of ohss but after speaking to the consultant recently he said I am using burselin as the trigger and apparently it's rare to get ohss with it. 6 weeks is a really long wait for pgta results! I think I'll go crazy. I am guessing that meant you couldn't transfer on your next cycle then? X

@Needamiracle12 no I didn’t transfer that cycle in fact it was a good few months until we transferred because life got in the way. Yeh 6 weeks is awful I think they got sent out to some lab in Europe. At least in uk you will get the results a bit quicker as far as I am aware.
