Starting IVF/ICSI March 2024

I'm planning to start my first round of ICSI with my next cycle - anyone else in the same boat and want some online company? Or anyone already been through this and got useful tips/advice?

@Cathycatcat whoa, great news and good luck - we'll both be having retrievals on Wednesday!. Have you got your trigger shot ready for tonight?

@Capybara95 congrats on successful transfer and that you have at least 5 frosties, that is great news. Have they told you a day to do the pregnancy test? And what drugs are you on now, is it just progesterone?

@AnnieStar12 yes test on 23rd, feels like a lifetime away right now!! And yes just progesterone to take until my test day

@AnnieStar12 yeah got my trigger shot ready. Glad it’s the last one! My belly could do with a rest from being poked. My other half just asked if he needs to do anything on the day of egg collection and we realised the nurse didn’t say anything. I’m guessing he needs to be there to provide a sperm sample and maybe for moral support and to drive me home after.

@Cathycatcat thanks!! Congrats on making it to your last injection!

yes your partner will need to provide this sperm sample about 45 mins before the egg collection happens so they have time to prepare it

@Cathycatcat haha, funny how they seem to forget there’s a second person involved!! Yeah my partner has to come with me to go to the “production room” that morning to get the sample. They said make sure there’s not more than 5 days of abstinence as that can reduce the sperm quality. Also, was told he would need to accompany me home and stay with me. We’ve both booked the day off work. I assume that will all be the same for you.

@Capybara95 so glad to hear your transfer went well, and you have 5 embryos to freeze that's fantastic!

I had my egg collection thai morning, 10 eggs collected a bit lower than we were expecting as on all my tracking scans we had 18-22 follicles. But 10 is still a good number so we're happy!

The collection it's self was fine, was totally out of it, I don't even remember falling asleep! I was quite confused afterwards and my blood pressure was low for a while. But after lots of fluid and some rest I was fine in 30 mins.
Got some bloating, cramping now and feel like I have a hangover from the sedation, but overall not too bad!

@Beka245 congrats on having your collection over with! Hope your recovery is ok. 10 is a great number! Will you get an update about fertilisation tomorrow?

@Capybara95 the 23rd will come round before you know it, but I know it'll feel like a lifetime! Are you planning to wait until test day, or are you going to test out the trigger and try test early? I want to say I'll be chill about it myself and wait until my test day (assuming we have an embryo to transfer!) but I've been so impatient this past year with TTC and always end up caving and testing early.

I'm feeling so anxious about this trigger shot I have to do shortly, argh! Like so much rests on me doing it just right.

@AnnieStar12 at the minute I’m planning on waiting until the 23rd but it will be hard! I was hoping to test just a couple of days early but The 23rd is a Saturday so I would be able to test first thing in the morning which I know is recommended. I don’t know if tested on the evening of day 9 or 10 would be strong enough if positive? Does anyone know does it make much difference between morning and evening? Just don’t want to get the result then my husband have to go to work after.

I got myself a bit worked up about the trigger shot too but in reality it was just the same process as my stims. Is yours ovitrelle? Good luck for it!

@Steph2345 i really didn’t expect to have that many! The clinic seemed to be really pleased with it too.

The embryo I had implanted today they said was hatching - does anyone know what that means? Is it just the next stage of development?

@Capybara95 i think yes it is the next stage and it’s what they are looking for as a really good blast

@Capybara95 yeah, get a call tomorrow to let us know how many have fertilized, excited but nervous!

@AnnieStar12 I was also really nervous about getting the trigger shot right, but it was similar to all my other meds so was fine!

@AnnieStar12 @Cathycatcat ive also just done my trigger shot this evening with ovitrelle with egg collection scheduled for Wednesday. Had to do trigger at 11.15pm and now no chance of sleeping from the reality hitting that sh1t is about to get real! Hope you’re both doing well, I haven’t minded the injections thus far but felt really fed up with them tonight, so I’m glad tomorrow is an injection free day!

@2024forthewin my trigger was at midnight and we’d fallen asleep by 10 so had to set multiple alarms in case we missed it! 😂 all good though. Feeling more tired than usual and bloated. Fingers crossed all goes well for you too on Wednesday!!

Csn anyone help, please? Has anyone had a cold during stims and does it affect the process in any way? I started my injections on Saturday (first ever IVF round so all is new to me) but I got a cold (started to have throat itching and pain and chest pain the Friday just before). I spent the weekend resting and taking lemsip but I went to work yesterday and feeling worse today. No temperature just some mild chest discomfort and blocked sinuses. I decided to take the day off work today. Can a cold affect the process? I would not normally take the day off and would stuff myself with medicine and go to work but I was wondering whether I should try to recover soon before next week when it will possibly be egg collection. Can egg collection go ahead if I'm ill?

@mlruirod I would give your clinic a call and see what they say. I was due to start in January but got the flu day 2 into stims, we ended up delaying the cycle and started again in March (I developed a chest infection, then got covid 3 weeks later so was for the best!) but when I called my clinic initially to tell them I was ill they said if it was just a cold/sinus symtoms they would be happy to continue with the cycle.

We had a call from the embryolgist this morning, 6 of my eggs have fertilized, fresh transfer is booked for Saturday morning. Won't find out until Saturday how many day 5 embyros we have but I have my fingers crossed that 2 or 3 make it!

Thank you for your reply. I have been told to call at a specific time later to talk to the nurse, hopefully they won't cancel my treatment as I think I just have a common cold.
I'm sorry you went through all of that just at the start of your treatment, I don't really want to stop but it feels quite awful to start the treatment for the first time and being ill at the same time- I was hoping to be more excited and energeticthan this! Luckily you are now fully recovered and have quite a few embryos 🤗 I'll have my fingers crossed for you that you'll have all your 6 embryos on day 5🤞

Luckily I have a super busy day at work today to keep me distracted and then it’s first thing tomorrow morning. I’ve started getting cervical mucus which I guess means my body is preparing to ovulate. I’m so looking forward to sleeping all afternoon tomorrow, lol!

@mlruirod sorry you’re poorly. Hopefully it’s just a cold and you can continue, these things can’t be helped. Get well soon!

just been reading and catching up on your posts.
good luck to all of you.
I had my egg collection today. 6 eggs collected. I was expecting around this number anyway as only 6 follicles were large enough on scan. Will get a call tomorrow about fertilisation etc. Sperm sample was okay so we’re doing IVF not ICSI. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
egg collection it self was absolutely fine, don’t remember a thing. Just cramps now and mild nausea. Xx

@Drzoem congrats on getting the EC out the way, and 6 eggs is great! Keep us posted tomorrow after your call, rooting for you!
