Failed FET with euploid. Anyone had success on rounds two or three?

Our first transfer has failed. I was really hopeful given the PGTA testing.

We have three more frozen euploid embryos, all high grades. But I’m now just feeling a bit lost and defeated if the one they’ve deemed the ‘best’ has failed.

I’m 42 so don’t have time on my side and I can’t afford any more egg collections. I wondered if anyone has had this happen and then go onto have a subsequent successful cycle? We have a follow up appointment next week to discuss and decide next steps. I’m just feeling so low.

@Always28 really sorry to hear about your transfer. Have you had any other tests done on the lining or bloods for immune tests? I was due to transfer but had the brakes put on when they noticed something on my lining - they advised I could proceed but it could affect implantation if it is in fact a polyp. So I had a Hysteroscopy and turned out I had a polyp and some abrasions on the lining which were smoothed out, pending a FET at the moment.

I also found out through bloods I would need steroids for a FET as I have thyroid antibodies.

So it may be future tests could be needed to help guide next steps

Always28 · 01/02/2024 08:17

@Sunflower360 thank you. That’s all really helpful. No, I haven’t had any tests for lining or any immune issues. I have a follow up appointment on Monday so I will mention these things then.

I hope your FET goes well. Do you have a date to start?

@Always28 just waiting on my next cycle and I can hopefully do a FET on that cycle fingers crossed

I'm really sorry. It's sadly perfectly normal that not all euploid embryos take, not all embryos are meant to become a baby, even the genetically normal ones. Statistically it will take most people 3 transfers for a successful outcome. Wishing you luck in the future.

sweetpea2000 · 01/02/2024 10:57

So sorry your first transfer failed. IVF is such a rollercoaster of emotions.

My clinic told me that euploid embryos have a 70% pregnancy rate and 60% live birth rate (I’ve read studies online that back this up too, so I think it’s a reliable statistic). So about a third of euploid embryos won’t result in pregnancy, but with three more, your chances of success are still very high.

You could ask for further testing if you want more confidence going into future transfers (saline scan, immunes and/or endometrial receptivity tests). However it’s most likely it was just chance that your first transfer didn’t take (as hard as that is to accept).

Wishing you all the best with your next steps.

Thank you so much. This is also really reassuring. It’s easy to wonder what’s gone wrong, but actually slightly comforting to think it may just be a bit of bad luck, and that another round may have a different outcome. Hopefully we will have success with one of our remaining embryos.

@sweetpea2000 Thank you for your message. Hopefully this is the case and it’s more chance than anything. Although I like the idea of further testing for some reassurance, it’s also weighing up the time and expense this will take too.

For the first time today I feel a bit more able to cope with the emotion of it. I think it’s all the unknown and lack of control over the outcome which is really hard.

@Always28 from what you've said, for you at this point there is no reason to think it is anything other than bad luck and this one wasn't meant to be. It doesn't make the process any easier, but I do find some solace in knowing so much of this game is simply a roll of the dice and hoping your numbers come up. If you get down the road and have transferred multiple PGTA normal embryos with no success further investigations might be warranted, but even then many theories are just those with treatments not necessarily scientifically evidenced (eg immunes, ERA etc). Robert Winston's book 'the essential fertility guide' is an excellent resource to help guide decision making, as is his website the genesis research trust. I hope the next outcome is different for you. Take care.

I will check out that book and website - thank you. That’s really helpful.

We have three euploid embryos left and I have enough savings to pay for FETs for those. But then that will be the end of the road. We can’t stretch to another egg collection. So I think I’m partly just conscious of that.

Hi @Always28

just wondering how you got on with subsequent cycles, I am in the same position as you were in that I’ve had one failed cycle with a perfect embryo & panicking it will never work!

mrsb323 · 27/06/2024 18:31

Hello, this is my first post on mumsnet! I also had a failed PGT-A tested embryo and wondered if either of you went on to have success on the next rounds? Everything seemed to go according to plan for us with the first transfer, no issues with the embryo, hormone levels were fine but still didn’t work. @Always28 @Mfiwife

Always28 · 28/06/2024 17:36

Hi ya. After that first transfer we did an ERA testing cycle in March/April. I have now just had a second FET yesterday with another euploid embryo.

This time I had an extra day of progesterone but at a slightly lower dose. I’ve also taken prednisolone this time too.

Really hoping to get second time lucky. I will keep you posted.

mrsb323 · 30/06/2024 12:27

Thanks for your reply. Really hope this time works for you. I also had my second transfer a few days ago with euploid embryo so hoping it will be successful this time 🙂

Always28 · 01/07/2024 09:00

Thank you @mrsb323. really hope this one works for you too. When is your test date?

OP posts:
mrsb323 · 01/07/2024 22:50

@Always28 my test date is the 7th July although I’m not sure I’ll be able to wait that long! Might try and wait it out until Wednesday. We decided to have one more go but if this doesn’t work then I will probably have some more tests as well to check that there’s nothing else going on. Hopefully it will work for both of us though! 🙂

Always28 · 02/07/2024 15:32

@mrsb323 my test date isn’t until 10th July so over a week away! They are quite conservative at my clinic and get you to test at home 13dpt.

Someone gave me some cheap tests they had left over from their (successful) ivf cycle and when I got home this afternoon, I decided to give one a go just to see - I sort of felt like it was early enough that the result wouldn’t stress me out too much either way. I can see a faint line but I’m not sure how these cheap tests work and if you always see some sort of line and it needs to be a bit more decisive. So I’m hopeful but still not sure if it’s anything. I will now wait a few more days I guess and see what that brings.

@Always28 I also don’t know how the cheaper tests work but there’s a line there so it’s definitely hopeful. Let me know how you get on. 🙂

I also got a faint line on clear blue. It’s not the best picture but it’s a line and it’s the first one I’ve had in 5 years! Will test again in a couple of days to see if it gets any darker.

This is great, and a definite line! I’m really pleased for you. How many days past transfer are you?

OP posts:
Always28 · 03/07/2024 20:04

I did another test today - although will now step away from the tests for a while as not sure how much it’s helping. It definitely looks darker than yesterday though.

@Always28 I’m currently 11dpt. I booked an early scan in with our clinic for a couple of weeks. The last test I did was a nice strong line so feel a little calmer and able to stop testing for a bit! How are you getting along? That line definitely looks darker!

JJ1121 · 02/11/2024 14:11

@Always28 hi! Wondering how you got on? Also in the same situation. Hoping second euploid transfer will be a success 🙏

Always28 · 03/11/2024 15:03

Hi @JJ1121 . I’m now 21 weeks pregnant from my second FET transfer with a euploid embryo. It’s all going really well.

Have you had a second transfer?

OP posts:
JJ1121 · 03/11/2024 16:20

@Always28 congratulations! That’s motivating to hear ☺️. My first euploid transfer was a BFN this last month. It was was really hard. I was so sure it was going to work. This month I’m going to do an ERA and hysteroscopy. Then second euploid transfer in December. 🙏 any advice? x

Always28 · 03/11/2024 20:33

I also had ERA testing before my second cycle and they gave me progesterone for longer, but at a lower dose, on the subsequent cycle. So it may be that that made the difference. They also added in prednisolone.

I did a few extra things like drinking beetroot juice and pomegranate juice and taking some extra supplements. It’s hard to know if any of that made a difference though or if it was just a bit of a numbers game. But at least it gave me things to focus on and feel like I could control that at least.

Really really hope it works for you next cycle. Keep us updated on how the ERA cycle and hysteroscopy go! How many embryos do you have in storage?

OP posts:
JJ1121 · 04/11/2024 10:49

@Always28 thank you! 🙏 I will certainly try some of those things. How was the Prednisolone? Any side effects?

I’ve only completed one EC and was lucky to get two euploids. Unfortunately, if this one fails will likely have to do another EC in the new year but remaining hopeful.
