Polyp removal

Hi hive mind! I am having a polyp removed this week via a hysteroscopy plus a coloposcopy y biopsy for good measure.

My consultant has said I can start IVF the next menstrual cycle but I am worried this isn’t enough time for my uterus / cervix to heal before a fresh transfer.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience in this?

Hi! I had multiple polyps removed via hysteroscopy the month before my transfer. It stuck and I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant. Early days so keeping fingers crossed.
Apparently polyp removal and hysteroscopies are helpful before transfers and they act a bit like an endo scratch from the reading I’ve done, so it’s good to do the transfer within 3-4 months of the procedure.
I can’t say for sure if this is true but our embryo stuck the cycle after the polyp removal so something worked!

Hi @graygoose, thank you for the reply! That gives me massive peace of mind that I’m not starting too soon after the removal!

Massive congrats on your pregnancy!

@Marilala You’re welcome! All the best and baby dust to you :)

@graygoose @Marilala sorry to bother you both. I’m in a similar situation and due to have Hysteroscopy and Polypectomy tomorrow with a myoscope. They’ve told me to take painkillers and they will give me local anaesthetic. I’ve read so many horror stories online that im bricking it! Have either of you gone down the local route? If so, how bad was it?

Marilala · 24/04/2023 19:42

Hello @KG1244 my procedure was postponed to the end of this week and it’s going to be under general! I have seen on some sites that it can be done under local but local doesn’t work well on me… I’m getting it done privately via insurance so money isn’t a factor but if you’re paying for it yourself general will add on a chunk to your bill!

i had a hycosy during investigations and found it excruciating, painkillers did jack shit. Based on that I wouldn’t want to do this without some sort of sedation to be honest! Sorry 😭

@Marilala ah I’m sorry. I had an hcosy and found it fine. I think these things are so personal and it’s difficult to know. Thank you so much for responding to me ❤️

Marilala · 24/04/2023 21:57

@KG1244 if you found the hycosy okay then you’ll probably be fine! Keep us posted 😘

KG1244 · 24/04/2023 22:01

@Marilala will do, thank you! 😘

KG1244 · 25/04/2023 17:27

@Marilala all done! I took paracetamol and ibuprofen beforehand and then had the local. It was like very strong period pains at one point and then just felt very uncomfortable/strong period pains on and off but it was all manageable. I’m hoping to have a frozen embryo transfer in June / July so you never know, we might cross over a bit! Lots of luck for your procedure at the end of the week. Hope all goes well x

Marilala · 25/04/2023 17:42

Glad to hear it all went well! Sounds like the sensations I experienced during the hycosy.

Yes to crossover! Will be doing a fresh mid - late June. Can’t wait to get going! Hope it goes well x

@Marilala ahh yes I know the feeling. Will this be your first cycle of IVF?

Marilala · 27/04/2023 07:45

@KG1244 it will! Excited to get going 😊 what about you?

@Marilala I had ivf and egg collection in March but because they found the polyp, I had freeze all and hoping they will give me the green light for FET in June/July. If you have any questions about the ivf process, please feel free to ask xx

Wish1 · 18/05/2023 22:34

@KG1244 @graygoose Hiya both
hope you don’t mind me joining this thread.
Ive just found out I have a cervical polyp and have an appmnt with Gynae in 2 weeks.
Im so anxious and of course thinking of all the things that will go wrong- that’s just my luck.
Its also so frustrating as I was due to start IVF and now I’m not sure whether this will set me back.
we are only at the stage where we’ve had first consultation at fertility clinic and we’re waiting for the next appointment.
can you shed some light on the process you went through?
thank you.
x

KG1244 · 18/05/2023 23:45

@Wish1 Hi, yes of course. So I had one last year which I had removed under general. Started the ivf process and nothing appeared on my first ultrasound. Then the next ultrasound I had after starting the ivf meds, it appeared. They recommended that I proceed with the egg collection but get a freeze all. I ended up going private for the polyp removal as the wait was about 3 months under NHS. This time around I had it removed under local. It cost me £500 and I was able to get it done a few weeks after I had my egg collection. It was a bit painful but lasted about 10 minutes and I personally found it a lot less stressful than all of the hanging around I had last time with the general + recovery time after the anaesthetic. I’m due to start my FET next month. Any questions at all, please let me know. I know it’s really gutting and upsetting to be set back but I tried to think about the fact that it’s good they have found it and hopefully once it’s removed, your chances of successful IVF will increase x

KG1244 · 18/05/2023 23:47

@Wish1 sorry, my message is a bit garbled. The one I found in the ivf process was my second polyp - found in March this year.

Marilala · 19/05/2023 08:47

Hey @KG1244 Do you think the IVF meds caused the polyp to regrow? Or did they miss it the first time around? I just had two removed but the gynae said that oestrogen from IVF meds can cause them to grow so I'm nervous about them coming back and having to go through all the faff again!

OP posts:
KG1244 · 19/05/2023 09:10

@Marilala they said that could have been what happened. I know it’s absolute pain. Not ideal but worst case scenario, which I think is what happened to me (given it didn’t appear on a scan in January or February), you have the meds which bring it bring, they do the egg collection and freeze and then you get it removed. My first one was removed in June so it was quite a few months later that it grew back. Fingers crossed you’ll be ok. I’m about to start natural FET in the next month or so so hoping as they use a lot less meds it will reduce my chances.

Hi 👋 I'm in a similar situation so would really appreciate any advice! @KG1244 you mentioned it cost £500 to remove the polyp, was that after a Hysteroscopy?

KG1244 · 02/12/2023 10:02

@Sunflower360 hey of course, happy to answer any questions. So mine was removed during the Hysteroscopy

Sunflower360 · 02/12/2023 10:05

Thanks @KG1244 how much did the actual hysteroscopy end up costing? Can see it varies depending on the clinic

KG1244 · 02/12/2023 10:28

@Sunflower360 it was £500 which included local anaesthetic

Sunflower360 · 31/12/2023 12:44

@KG1244 how did your transfer go in the end? I am hoping to have a FET the cycle after the Hysteroscopy as I've read having it soon after can help implantation (of course depends on the embryo itself too)

KG1244 · 31/12/2023 13:02

@Sunflower360 hey, I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant with a little boy ❤️
Lots of luck for your transfer! How did you find the Hysteroscopy?

Sunflower360 · 31/12/2023 13:03

@KG1244 due to have it early Jan, so as yet to find out. Congratulations! Was that the transfer soon after your Hysteroscopy?
