Ovulated before egg Retrieval

Please can someone help!

I'm 29 and have the amh of 0.5 a high FSH! I tried one cycle of ivf with the NHS that lead to 2 eggs being retrieved, however both were immature. I then moved on to another round of ivf with a clinic abroad in Greece. I started my treatment in the UK following their advice. I had three follicles, only one of which that was at a decent size mature size. I was rushed to trigger and book last minute flights to Greece and only had a day to do this. On the day of my egg retrieval I was told I had ovulated.
I was absolutely devastated, my ivf was cancelled and the clinic quickly turned this into an IUI. The clinic mentioned that they knew this could have been the risk as I was on cetrocide and ovitrelle. However I was told not to worry, as it was the optimal timing for iui.

I have so many questions, should I have been more closely monitored to ensure that I did not ovulated early, was the egg retrieval scheduled too late, causing ovulation. (I triggered on a Wednesday at 18.30 UK time and egg Retrieval was scheduled for 8.30am on a Friday).
Was ovitrelle the wrong trigger shot as this induces ovulation and cetrocide stops it, how do these then work together??

I have never heard of someone ovulating before their egg retrieval, I am absolutely distraught!

im so sorry to hear this. This just happened to me last weekend. I am a patient with London Egg Bank, and I'm still waiting to hear back from the doctor on what went wrong. I was sedated for the procedure, then woke up to be informed that I'd already ovulated. I dont believe I was sufficiently monitored as the consultant informed me in theatre that If I attended earlier (or had a scan before surgery) then they could have maybe retrieved the eggs.
We put our trust in the clinic to get our medication right. What was the outcome of your case? Did they provide you with any reasons as to why this happened?

Hi @elleneo I think you've posted on an old thread so the OP isn't likely to respond.

Just wanted to jump on that I've had this happen to me a few times - here is one of my threads about it

Interesting that you say you're with the London Egg Bank - so that's part of the London Women's Clinic isn't it? That's who I was with when it happened to me the first time and I thought (with hindsight, and now with experience from another clinic) that they're pretty rubbish about it all.

There's literally no reason not to scan you before putting you under apart from them wanting to charge you for the full cycle. Whereas if they scan you and cancel before you go under they'd only get whatever their cancellation fee is but your cycle would be intact.

I am now at Create and they always scan before a cycle and also do blood tests regularly to see what the hormones are doing so they can double up on Cetrotide if necessary and try other things to prevent ovulation. Sadly I've still ovulated early a couple of times but at least I'm then going under for the EC knowing I'm only going for the one remaining follicle (and that it's likely to have an egg as the blood tests for oestrogen would indicate this) so it's more informed.

Honestly, I would switch clinics (as I did) if they're not willing to make those changes - which they didnt re blood tests at least for me..

Hello, yes they are part of London Women's clinic. sorry to hear this happened to you, its traumatising isn't it. This happened to me last Saturday and Im still waiting for a doctor to contact me with an explanation. Did they at least refund you or explain to you why this had happened? I'm going to pursue this fully, as I strongly feel they were negligent by lack of monitoring in my case.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on...

I wrote a formal complaint as I also went in to egg collection 30 mins late but essentially got nowhere. Got a formal letter back dealing with all of my points and essentially explaining how/why they did nothing wrong...

Hi, unfortunately the clinic in Greece blamed the sonographer in the UK that conducted my baseline scans and mentioned that the follicle growth scans were inaccurate as my follicle size increased to quickly, which is why they called me last minute for my egg retrieval. I was asked to fly out to Greece with very short notice and was in a complete panic. However I had a horrendous time, although the clinic in Greece has fantastic reviews my experience wasn't great with them. They also never contacted me back after my IUI (changed from IVF due to ovulating) to check the results of it, or have a thorough review. I thought that they would atleast contact me to understand what truly happened and to discuss the possibility of next steps. I don't know at this stage if it was the protocols, or inaccuracy with my scans, but something clearly went very wrong. The costs of flights, hotels, food and the treatment itself was so costly, time consuming and stressful. I am now looking at a clinic that specializes in low AMH and one that is local to me, where they can monitor me closer. I am also sorry to hear about your case. All the best and never give up! I hope you find an amazing clinic.
