Hi ladies,

I am new to IVF and hoping to get some advise/ recommendation.

I’m 35 with a low AMH due to endometriosis. My DH’s sperm seems to be normal so looks like just female factor. We are looking to start IVF privately, did a lot of research and joined a few open evenings. We are considering going with Lister but would really like your recommendation on a consultant. Have you got any good/ bad experience with the clinic? Who would you recommend if you have similar issues like me? (Low AMH and endometriosis)

Please DM me if is negative experience and is better not to be posted on a public forum!

Many thanks in advance!

Has anyone seen Dr Salim? At the Portland clinic?

Thanks for your msg. I'm looking to move to Lister after being at Create. Torn between Dr Thum and Dr Nicopoullos..... seems like much of a muchness but so hard to decide without meeting either!

ListerMummy · 10/05/2023 18:12

I’ve had experience of both and can highly recommend both. On balance I’d probably choose Dr. Thum but only because Dr. Nicopoullos is clinic director and therefore has a lot of additional commitments on top of his patient load.

I have been at the Lister for a few years now.
I think I've met most of the consultants now and they are all excellent. I am under the care of Dr Thum. He is an excellent doctor, interested in research so knows all the latest research data about what works and what doesn't. But willing to try new things if he thinks its important for the patient (i.e. me).
He also takes a holistic approach, which I appreciated. He knows what the patient can handle, and he won't push treatment that's unwanted.
I'm in the medical profession myself, so I can recognise a talented and gifted doctor when I see one.. and Dr Thum is just that.

100% agree with this.

I recommend them. The consultants are almost all into research and open-minded. Ultrasound and nurse staff almost all friendly and kind. Things you can't take for granted at an IVF clinic!

Hi,

I had one baby with the lister when I was 34 after a failed nhs round at Guys. My amh was 5.1pmol which is low due to prior surgery on one ovary. But our main reason for ivf was male factor infertility. That round worked (although 10 eggs, only 1 day 5 4bb embryo which took).

I went back to try and a second when I was 36/37. My follicle count was a lot lower and they thought my amh was likely to have dropped significantly but never retested - their view was that it wouldn’t tell us any more than we already knew (that I would get a low number of eggs and need high dose stimulation). I started a round and then cancelled due to poor response. I then did another full round - 4 eggs, 1 day 5 5BB and am currently 24 weeks pregnant.

so overall a great outcome.

on a practical level I would say they can be slow with appointments as they really pack everyone in (was often there for 2 hours at a time) but clearly they have great embryologists (which imho makes all the difference) and they do tailor treatment in terms of monitoring exactly when to trigger etc which I think really helps maximise the number and quality of eggs you get.

good luck everyone xxx

Wow - thank you all so much for your replies. So helpful. And congrats @Blacksheep33 on your pregnancy! Helps me to look forward to the appointment rather than be anxious x

Hi OP, I’m pregnant with a Lister baby. My first cycle was with ABC and their monitoring was very basic and they don’t like to change their protocol if you’re not responding. With Lister, they doubled my medication as follicles not responding, I had scans every other day for five days and multiple blood tests. All in all, I felt I was given a much better chance of success, I wouldn’t hesitate to reccomend them.
