Weight loss for IVF 2021/2022

WeightlossKin · 22/11/2021 20:24

I need to lose three stone to qualify for IVF. I've got one to lose for my referral and two more after that for treatment.
Creating this for myself and for others who might want to buddy up!

@WeightlossKin its such a shame the doctor won’t help! But 1lb loss is in the right direction and I know what you mean about it being nice being in tune with your body. I still have the hope maybe this month will be it, even though it’s unlikely!

weigh in today 1.8lbs off. I’ve had a good week mainly but ended up eating far too much yesterday in the evening. Still I’m pretty pleased with that. I’ve eaten really well, less snacks but I’ve generally been full after meals.

Hope everyone is ok.

WeightlossKin · 05/09/2022 10:45

@Lauralozzle it's gone back up slightly further today 🤷 but we shall see if it goes down when ovulation bloating has passed!
It's those stories about people who have been trying for years and years and suddenly get a Bfp naturally that won't let me switch my brain off. And I found weight loss and weight maintenance much easier on the mini pill, but can't bring myself to go back on it as that feels like we're going backwards and then we definitely won't suddenly be one of those magical bfp couples!
1.8lbs off today is amazing 🤗 you're doing so well! One night of eating a bit more than you'd like is okay, clearly your weight is still going in the right direction. You can do this!

@WeightlossKin You know what, thinking back when I was at my slimmest I was on the pill. Maybe there’s something in that.

I think with daily weigh ins you have to expect some fluctuation. I used to compare my daily weigh ins to week before.

I still dream if being one of those surprise BFPs after 3 years. The unexplained diagnosis doesn’t help with that either because there is no reason we know of as to why it’s not happening. Now that my hormones are normal as well! But I really do think IVF is the only answer.

I know one night of eating a lot shouldn’t do too much damage. I’ve just got to draw a line under it. I’m really trying to just do breakfast/lunch/dinner. No snacks. Anything sweet has to be pudding after lunch/dinner and then that’s it. Need to enforce my no food after 7:00PM.

Lakyta1717 · 05/09/2022 20:39

@Lauralozzle well done for losing! Like you said, draw a line under eating more and move on - it's overall calories in, so a few more one day can just be taken off another day.

@WeightlossKin I'm really impressed how in tune you are with your body, I have no clue - my husband usually knows more about what cycle day etc it is 😂 I also live in hope of a BFP, which you'd think would have long gone considering it's been so long. But you can't help but hope, eh?!

I've now done 2 gym sessions and am feeling really good - I also had to do loads of moving and carrying boxes/books etc in work today, so they have me an hour of exercise before I'd even gone to the gym! Absolutely shattered now. Weekend was a mess food and drink wise for me - we went to the wrestling and I got very drunk and had two McDonald's in a day 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 but, I had a great time so I'm not beating myself up. Going to try to get to the gym twice more this week, forgot how good I feel after a workout.

Lauralozzle · 12/09/2022 07:11

Weigh in day today.

I’m up 0.6lb. I’ve eaten well this past week. Perhaps a little too well.

Never mind. Keep trying until you succeed.

How is everyone?

caffelattetogo · 12/09/2022 10:40

I'm now on the other side - lost weight for IVF, put it all back on again while pregnant, now trying to lose it again. I found low carb really good previously, but struggling with that as I'm now breastfeeding. It's a hard road, isn't it?

WeightlossKin · 13/09/2022 19:24

I'm actually enjoying weighing daily, just getting into the fluctuation mindset! Yesterday was official weigh day and I'd gained! But then when I weighed this morning it had gone back down plus a bit so I've lost another pound and a bit. I am feeling hopeful that things will keep going for me now 🤞🤞just got to keep going. I started my new job this week and it's been different and stressful, and we're out Thursday evening for dinner so we shall see how this week goes!

Sorry about your little gain @Lauralozzle, are you feeling able to stick to your plan since weighing in? Not snacking is a great basis! When I've stopped and added up unnecessary snacking it comes in at 300-400 calories sometimes! Such a difference for a few nibbles and snacks here and there.

Gym sounds like it is going amazing @Lakyta1717 ! It's great you enjoyed your messy food and drink weekend and don't hold it against yourself! I hope you manage to get the gym in. Do you go back to work part time soon?

@caffelattetogo I actually think losing the weight a second time (or third/fourth/etc) is worse as I feel like bodies and metabolisms are more resilient! I'll be furious if I gain everything back during IVF/whilst hopefully pregnant!

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 14/09/2022 08:54

@caffelattetogo Hopefully knowing you’ve lost can help you again, although I totally get how hard it could be afterwards with everything. Are you going low carb again?

@WeightlossKin Little gains come and go. I’m down today 1.6lbs which puts me down a lb from last week. I’m finding this way of eating is suiting me quite well. I’m not hungry, although I did snack last night for bakeoff! Can’t seem to watch that without something sweet.

Im glad weighing in daily is helping you! Once you get to grip with the fluctuations it can help see a larger picture. Especially if you’ve ‘gained’ but it’s actually your cycle playing tricks with you!

I’m still waiting for the letter from the hospital saying everything is fine. This gives me time! I’ve booked some time off end of the month to just relax a bit which should be nice. OH is working as he has a new job and can’t really take annual leave so soon but I can spend that week really focussed and try and get the house in a bit of order too!

WeightlossKin · 15/09/2022 08:15

@Lauralozzle bake off is such a trigger for sweet snacking! 😂 I always go away with loads of things I want to bake as a result. That's great you're down a pound from last week and as you say you've still got a bit of time. Time off to relax before IVF sounds a wise decision! How are you feeling about it all? Are you just excited?

@caffelattetogo my message probably doesn't read very supportively 😳 sorry! I think that comes from the fact that I'd already gotten to this point before and gained it all back + over a year, only to find out we need IVF and it feels like losing it a second time (plus knowing I have to take off an extra two stone) has been so much harder than losing it the first time. As Laura says, as you've lost it once before you know you can do it again! So hopefully that gives you the motivation. Can I ask how much you needed to lose the first time around?

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 15/09/2022 09:14

@WeightlossKin Tell me about it! Might have done some baking last night! Damn bake off!

How am I feeling? I’m apprehensive more than anything. The waiting has been the hardest thing and I’m still waiting! I’m not excited yet, I’m not a huge fan of needles and at this rate I don’t think I’ll start properly until about November lol 😆 I’ll probably get more excited when I get dates!

Hedgehugs · 19/09/2022 19:25

Ive lost 10lbs, fell off the wagon today but been so strict otherwise so I am telling myself it’s ok just get back on it tomorrow. Keep telling myself it’s now or never, and thinking about how I will feel in months time if I am not in the same mindset and that I have let my self down, that feeling of future me being disappointed in past me kind of keeps me going. I had a consultation today following my amh bloods and tv scan last week. I was dreading it, the last 3 days had dreams about either the appointment being cancelled or me being pregnant with twins lol, it’s just constantly on my mind. At the apt they confirmed husbands SA is fine all above normal and that I have pcos which I already knew. I was so worried and had prepared myself for them to turn me away saying there’s nothing they can do to help because of my BMI so to lose more weight but I have left full of hope and feeling so positive after putting a plan in place. Next step is to wait for a call in the next couple of days to book in hycosy and then he doesn’t have a problem with starting me on OI meds straight away.

Has anyone here had a hycosy before and can you share your experience? All I read online is horror stories, so preparing myself for it to not be the nicest but interested to hear anyones experiences wether they are good or bad.

Lauralozzle · 19/09/2022 22:50

@Hedgehugs 10lbs is amazing! You can do this!

I’ve had a HSG which is similar but uses c-ray rather than ultrasound. It wasn’t as bad as I thought, the actual procedure the speculum was the mist uncomfortable. During it, it felt like period cramps. I did say ouch towards the end, but I couldn’t crunch over like I usually would do I think laying flat didn’t help. I had a bit of spotting afterwards.

Without sugar coating it, the cramps I had about 4 hours afterwards (after I felt fine and had gone for a walk) were strong and really quite painful. I felt fine after a couple of days. In all my research I’d not heard of HSG being fine with cramps hours afterwards. So I think that’s just me. I had no blockages.

Lauralozzle · 19/09/2022 22:52

Bloody predictive text. X-ray not c-ray haha.

On a plus, im down a lb from last official weigh in. Not I just need to not put it back in again!

Hedgehugs · 20/09/2022 11:56

@Lauralozzle thanks for sharing your experience. I’m going to take a painkiller 30mins before and go into it prepared for some cramping! Also going to stop googling it I think, there’s lots of mixed reviews and a lot are bad ones! I know some suffer through smears but I am fine with it so just got to remember everyone’s different and put my big girl pants on!!

So good re weight loss. Have you seen what 1lb of fat looks like? Google it? It’s quite a lump! So 1lb is amazing, slow and steady :)

Lauralozzle · 20/09/2022 17:48

@Hedgehugs I struggle with a smear so hopefully you’ll be fine. Stop googling is a good idea, it really wasn’t as bad as I read!

1lb of fat is quite a sizeable chunk!

i am so hungry today. I’m like a bottomless pit. Nothing is filling me up. I’m tired and hungry and just want to curl up in a ball and hibernate.

care messaged me today asking if I’d had the letter from the endocrinologist yet. Nope. Still waiting. This waiting game is getting, quite frankly, ridiculous.

WeightlossKin · 22/09/2022 13:53

@Lauralozzle I think lots of people reflect that the waiting is the hardest part! It makes you feel so out of control doesn't it? Can you chase the endocrinologist for the letter? Do you have contact details for their medical secretary? Well done on your weight loss. I absolutely hate those super hungry days where nothing you eat feels like enough. How did you get on?

@Hedgehugs 10lbs is a great loss, well done! How much more weight do you need to lose for IVF BMI? I'm jealous of your loss with PCOS! Definitely keep future you in mind. I'm still the same weight I was in May essentially and I feel so sad about it, it is keeping me on track... But on track isn't getting me anywhere very quickly!
I have a close friend who had a hycosy. She said the procedure was like a bad period pain but the cramps the following day kept her in bed with a hot water bottle and a day off work. Not unbearable. I'm sure you'll be okay. Remember that people are far more likely to talk about negative experiences than positive ones so you always get one sided views on Google and forums.

I'm at the end of my period today and hoping for a drop in weight tomorrow 🤞 I was excited when my weight didn't go up at the start of my period, but not so excited when it stayed exactly the same for the whole four days. Usually I get a 2-3lb increase and then it returns to where it was before AF, so I'm hoping for a magic drop off 😂 if I had £1 for every time I hoped for that, I'd be having IVF privately!!

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 26/09/2022 08:45

@WeightlossKin I hope your weigh in went well! I always weigh less after my period.

I had no will power last week. I ate crap and fat too much of it. I was exhausted and just felt meh. I took Thursday/Friday off as leave and have this week off too. I’m in a much better mind frame now I know I’m having a rest/break from work.

Weigh today wasn’t pretty. 3lb gain. I have probably eaten enough for that not to be water weight. Much more strict with my calorie intake this week, the evening snacks had crept back in and they need to stop.

I have messaged the doctor to see if they have anything from endocrinologist so waiting on them. Should hear from them this week hopefully.

WeightlossKin · 27/09/2022 08:56

I didn't initially weigh less after my period. But after three days of D&V I've dropped 3lbs 🤦 I know it'll just go back on as soon as I'm better. If I didn't feel so awful I'd definitely be going around catching all these bugs as it's the quickest weight loss I've ever had! 🙄

I'm sorry about your 3lb gain. At least 1lb of that will be water retention from a sudden change in diet. I'm glad you're in a better place this week. And you know if you weren't trying to stick to a strict BMI limit, a 3lb up and down fluctuation would probably be normal.

Fingers crossed you hear back this week! What do you have planned for your week off?

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 27/09/2022 12:47

@WeightlossKin Hopefully a lb of that is water. We’ll see. This waiting is just maddening though, it just feels like nothing is happening so I just feel like giving up. Madness because I’ll gain and then won’t fit the criteria anymore!

Ive not got much planned. Sorting out bits and bobs in the house. Will probably try and sort out/make a start on the garden.

I hope you’re feeling better after the s&d - that sounds awful 😢

WeightlossKin · 02/10/2022 17:51

How have you managed this week with your eating? Did your weight go back down @Lauralozzle ?
Please don't give up and let your weight spiral, you've worked too hard for that. The waiting is a nightmare but it'll all be worth it soon 🤞

I'm much better now and my weight hasn't gone back up even though I've had a couple of days of normal eating now. So that's good! I hope it continues to move down, I just need to stick with it and make good choices everywhere we go. Easier said than done!

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 03/10/2022 08:25

@WeightlossKin My weight didn’t really go back down much. I’ve weighed in today and I’m a lb down from last week. Still above 30 bmi mark though.

I called the hospital last week, should get the paperwork this week so I’m jumping back towards the slimfast wagon for now until my appointment at CARE.

Im glad you’re feeling better now and it’s an extra bonus the weight hasn’t crept back up!

WeightlossKin · 05/10/2022 14:49

@Lauralozzle how far off of your BMI target are you? I'm sorry you've had to go back to slimfast. It's so rubbish.
I hope it all gets going for you soon 🤞
I was hoping to be at target by November 🤦🙄😂 what a joke. That's not happening. I'll be lucky if I EVER get there, let alone if I get there by the end of this year.

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 05/10/2022 15:12

@WeightlossKin BMI on Friday was 31.6. I’ve changed my weigh in day to Friday. Slimfast is going okay, weekend was a write off as it was a friends Hen Do and Sunday ended up having a takeaway. But I’ve stuck to it Friday, Monday, Tuesday, and today so far. Hunger hits in the afternoon but otherwise I’m alright. I’m making a point of drinking lots so I don’t get bunged up like before. It’s helping a little with the hunger in the afternoon too.

On a positive note Ive had the letter come through now and I’ve uploaded it onto the CARE portal. Waiting for them to get back to me now.

The slimfast is just a short quick fix until the BMI check. Then I’ll eat like a normal person again.

It’s so tough, isn’t it? If I was private it wouldn’t even be an issue!

Lauralozzle · 07/10/2022 10:32

@WeightlossKin Hope you’re getting on okay.

I have weighed in this morning. From last Friday I’m 4.6lbs down. From Monday I’m 1.4lbs down. I might not particularly like SF but I think I need the rigidity of it. BMI is 30.8 according to the scales.

I’ve not heard back from CARE yet, but I know the consultant there has to ok it all as well so if I’ve not heard by Wednesday morning I’ll message them. They will have had 5 working days then to get the email, inform consultant etc. I’m thinking that’s more than enough time.

Hopefully by the time I have a date for the appointment my weight will be down and my bmi below 30! With clothes on!

WeightlossKin · 07/10/2022 13:57

@Lauralozzle SF sounds awful but at least seems to be making the difference. Also it's only temporary. Well done for sticking with it! I'm sure if you keep going your BMI will be where you need it to be. Hopefully there's not too much of a wait for the appointment. I think 5 working days to allow them time to come back to you is more than enough!

I'm due to ovulate so my weight hasn't shifted much at all since Sunday, and has edged up slightly. Hopefully it gets back to moving when I've ovulated 🤞

@Lakyta1717 how are you getting on?
