Weight loss for IVF 2021/2022

I need to lose three stone to qualify for IVF. I've got one to lose for my referral and two more after that for treatment.
Creating this for myself and for others who might want to buddy up!

The other day I chewed a fudge and then spat it out because it didn't taste worth the 60 calories 😳😂 this stuff will make me crazy honestly. What is normal life being able to just eat or not eat?

I think the odd day over your sugar goal is bound to happen, and it's a out that being the very minority of days and you getting back on it the next day. Especially if you enjoyed both the experience and the cake!

Let us know how you get on, I'll cross my fingers they're having a helpful receptive day! Thyroid meds used to be one of those ones that meant you get a prescription exemption card as you're usually on them for life and I honestly think that goes hand in hand with them being strict about testing for and prescribing them! That's just my cynical side showing. I love the NHS and feel so lucky but... I still think I'm probably right.

@WeightlossKin haha, chewing a fudge and then deciding it’s not worth the calories is something I would do!

So, doctors appointment went really well actually. I’m being put on a low dose of thyroxine, repeat bloods in 6 weeks, they’re checking antibodies too. Doctor is writing again to endocrinologist re my prolactin about whether they want to see me and scan my brain. Finally feels like someone is investigating this stuff properly. She was lovely too. I’ll try and have her again!

Oh that's great news @Lauralozzle ! I'm so glad they listened and are giving it a go with the meds. Definitely always see that doctor! I bet that's such a relief. Well done for sticking to your guns and advocating for yourself, it can be so hard and intimidating sometimes!

@WeightlossKin It is a massive relief. More bloods in six weeks now to see if my dose needs amending!

Weigh in today. Down half a pound. Still above my referral weight, but I have had less sugar this week, less chocolate in general, so I’m pretty proud of myself. I’ll be focusing that again this week, before I really sort out my macros.

I'll be interested to see if the thyroid meds help your weight loss 😊 I hope you start to feel better on them. Well done for your half a pound! You'll get back under your referral weight, just keep sticking to what you're doing. You're doing amazing!

I am suffering from period bloat as it's due Monday and I've started spotting so definitely on the way. Nervous for weigh in tomorrow 🙁 I need to start making proper progress but not sure what more I can do if I'm honest.

@Lauralozzle I'm so glad to hear your drs appointment went well and that they're properly investigating and have given you medication now. It's so nice to be heard, definitely stick with that Dr as much as possible! Well done for 1/2lb too, a loss is a loss! And shows what you're doing has made an impact 😊 I'm very impressed you've managed to have less sugar, I've massively failed on that 😂

@WeightlossKin all you can do is stick to the diet plan and slowly but surely lose it. Don't be too hard on yourself, that usually makes people go the other way and ruin their hard work. You've been losing weight all this time, so just keep going. You've got this 💪🏻. Period bloat is so annoying, just bear in mind some of your weight today will be water weight from the bloating and that can't be helped.

I went to SW yesterday, stayed the same this week. But I had an evening of emotional eating after some news of my Bampi (grandad) being taken to hospital suddenly. So I'll take a maintain because I ate an entire Daim Bar Cake over 3 days instead of dealing with my anxiety properly 🤦🏼‍♀️ but writing a meal plan today and going food shopping to get organised again. I want a loss of some kind this week. Been stuck where I am for about a month now... although my home scales are saying I've lost this week but the SW scales are the same each week which is really frustrating!

I've not made any progress since April 😬 I've just gone up and down by the same 2lbs! My period started today and the scales are the same as last week so at least that's not a gain which I often get with AF. Just going to stick with it and do what I can 💪

I'm sorry your Bampi is poorly @Lakyta1717 that must be stressful and hard to resist emotional eating when there's worrying news. I hope he's okay?
Well done for getting back on it and making a plan for the week! I'm doing the same and will be aiming for a loss this week as not moving forward is starting to piss me off.
That's frustrating re. Your scales vs SW. Hopefully you'll see that loss in their scales next week. I did find that SW scales only allowed for .5lb losses. So if you've lost just shy of half a lb it was a STS at SW. Do you stay to group?

@WeightlossKin Boo for period bloat, it just makes you feel Icky. At least you didn’t gain, during your period it’s so easy to gain with all the bloat and general ickyness of it all. Keep at it you’re doing great. I know what you mean about the same two lbs - I’m there with you! I would really like to break into the 12s at some point!

@Lakyta1717 Thanks. Sugar intake over the weekend has been a bit crazy to be honest! Popcorn with smarties at the cinema yesterday and homemade brownies today as I went to my dads for dinner.

I will have to be super strict over the week.
I’m having a bit of a moment today, getting impatient for IVF clinic to call. I just want to know time frames, everything is so up in the air at the moment, I find it hard to keep focusing on my weight and everything. I need a date/a target to focus on. Something tangible. Consultant appointment was 16th May, we chose our clinic on the 18th and nurse said it’d be sent off by the 20th and 2-3 weeks from then before we heard anything. So, hopefully next week but I imagine jubilee holiday might push it back a bit. It’s the waiting around I’m struggling with.

I feel like there’s no point in ttc naturally at this point, so each month is just dragging along. Can’t plan anything, no holidays or anything, just think I’m getting a bit tired of it all. 3 years ttc come July is a lot.

@WeightlossKin he's responding well to everything thankfully. He got covid last week and it's developed into pneumonia, but they've caught it early thanks to him having a fall and my mum making him get checked out. I had this gut feeling all week that something would happen, so when I got the call I'd kind of expected it. I'm just glad they've caught it all early and he's getting the antibiotics and pain killers he needs to recover. It's a case of wait and see how long he'll be in, but hopefully it won't be too long.

I know what you mean about the same 2lbs, that's what I've been stuck at for the last month or so. I do stay to group, even though I don't want to, I know it helps keep me motivated. We've done a shop and meal plan this week, bought all the fruit and veg! Upping that speed fruit/veg intake to hopefully get a loss this week.

@Lauralozzle I can understand you being frustrated. Everything just seems like a never ending waiting game with this process. I hope you hear from them this week and get a plan of action so you know how long you've got to work with for your weight loss target. It's so hard to wait when you've already been waiting so long.

It'll be 5 years for us soon and I just feel like I'm holding us back because I haven't lost this weight yet. Fed up of getting so far and then being stuck for ages. My heads in it but my anxiety and stressing is holding me back, it's so frustrating.

@Lakyta1717 Im glad your bampi is responding well. Hopefully he’ll be out soon, it’s good it was caught early and they give him antibiotics he needs.

Just had a call from CARE. Go in for a scan on Wednesday 22nd and have a consultation on the 23rd of June!

Right, slimfast is back out tomorrow I have two weeks and two days!! I imagine I’ll be weighed on the day of the scan. The consultation is via video link.

This all took an unexpected turn from wanting dates to thinking crap, two weeks!!!

Thanks both 😊 I'm feeling really unwell with my period today. It's so hard to make healthy food choices when your body just wants salt and sugar.

@Lauralozzle oh my goodness! Clearly your impatience paid off a bit too much 😉 that's exactly what I worry about when sending off this fertility questionnaire! You can do it. Temporary pain ❤️ hopefully this isn't something you'll have to put yourself through for much longer. It'd be nice to know when the last time they'll weigh you is so you can plan ahead? So excited for you!

@Lakyta1717 so glad your Bampi is responding well and going to be okay 🥰 such a worrying time for you. You've started off the week well with your food shop and prepping! How did today go food-wise? We need to crack the next 7lbs I think, I always think I get stuck behind barriers that are about half a stone thick and then things get easier for a few more lbs before I get stuck again. Anxiety, stress, hormones and TTC all make weight loss so bloody hard and the diets can make all of those things even worse so it's a very difficult circle to be in. Five years 😢 that's horrible. Your time isn't far away, we'll get there together!

I've been extra kind to myself and let myself have a really really long bath and not do my planned exercise as I've had terrible cramps, feel exhausted and have a bit of a period migraine. Also a huge spot on my chin 😩 I never really get spots. Woe is me! WOE is me!

@WeightlossKin I have a feeling there will be another nurse appointment after the consultant appointment I’m hoping that will be the last time they weigh me! July time maybe 🤔

Ive decided to take my thyroid medication in the evening after some reading because I need my morning milky coffee and I can’t have dairy because of the calcium for four hours after! Plus side for weight is I need to take it four hours on an empty stomach so that pretty much eliminates evening snacking!

still trying to limit sugar so I’ve worked out can only really have one slimfast- lunch wil just have to be fairly low calorie but similar calorie intake (I get so bored of poxy salads though - but it’s only for a little while!)

Had moments of dread thinking what the fuck am I doing to actual excitement. Whirlwind of emotions today. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a fertilised egg so this will 100% be a step closer!

Oh I didn't know that about thyroid meds @Lauralozzle! Have you looked at slimfast keto shakes? They'd be better for sugar intake won't they? Fast800 shakes have the best balance of fat and low sugar etc. But have the worst texture! 😊
Maybe you could have some soups as well as shakes and salads? All the "s"s except for sweets! I'm sure the whole process will feel equally overwhelming and exciting so try to take it one step at a time if you can!

Why is this so hard? 🙁 I weigh in tomorrow and I'm 100% sure I've either gained or stayed the same. I can't keep doing this every week. I've been super good this week and stayed on track and have done loads of walking and exercise in general. If I don't lose this week I'm going to have to have a think about what I can do differently as this is an absolute nightmare.
I've just come here for a bit of a wobble.

@WeightlossKin I’ve thought about the Keto shakes, I might give them a go. I love soup, but in the winter! I’m a bit strange, I’ll get all hot and flustered in the summer with soups!

Ive not been great this week on the sugar front! Oops. Popcorn and smarties, a couple of chocolate bars, full fat coke 🤦‍♀️

But, the no evening snacking appears to be doing something. Nothing after dinner, to take my thyroid meds at night, so four hour gap before. This week I’ve managed to lose 1.4lbs! That’s with my not so great diet this week. BMI is still not optimal (30.2) but I’m cautiously optimistic I’ll get that down by the 22nd with a proper week of effort!

How are you all? Hope everyone is ok.

Are you drinking enough? Hopefully the scales will show a loss tomorrow. The walking and exercise is good though. When I up it, I gain weight but it’s water, takes a few weeks to settle down.

Have you thought about what you’d do differently if you switch it up. No eating after dinner appears to be working for me… I struggled massively with evening snacking but I’m probably cutting out about 300-500 calories every night by not eating anything after dinner.

we’re here for you, this weight loss stuff sucks. It’s so hard!

@Lauralozzle thanks. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but sometimes I think it's so hard I could be eating utter crap and convincing myself I'm doing well. I'm going to keep a really strict food diary this week to catch all those little eating habits that sneak back in, even if it's just a single wotsit, it's going down on the paper! I tried to day whether or not I regularly eat treats after dinner and actually I'm not sure so I think I definitely need to go back to writing it all down. I definitely only have about 100 calories after dinner if I do eat anything, but I think anything sugary before bed is probably weight loss suicide for PCOS.

I've been drinking loads but I always do! I do feel a bit sore in certain muscles and maybe I'll be retaining a bit of water but I feel like I have an excuse every week? Period bloat, exercise water retention, ovulation bloating, period bloating 😆 ahhhh.

I'm glad that's having such a good effect for you! And well done for making that change, it's really difficult to kick, it's inspiring to hear it's making such a difference. That's an amazing loss for this week for you and you're so close, I'm certain you'll be where you want to by your appointment!
Thanks for being supportive 😊 it's helped me think it through a bit more rather than moping.

@WeightlossKin I'm feeling exactly the same as you. I've gained 1/2lb today after staying the same last week. Clearly SW isn't working for me this time round, I've been so good all week and upped my steps every day too. I should have had a loss, so I'm really frustrated today. So I don't think I'm going to stop going to SW now, no point paying if it's not working for me.

I'm going to do things my own way, like you, write it all down but I'm going to go back to the workouts I enjoyed. Yes, weight training could be counterintuitive but I felt so good and at this point any exercise or switch up that makes me feel good is worth it.

The pressure of losing weight is hard enough, add in IVF and it's just so stressful. I've had a proper mope today but kept busy rather than going on a binge. It's making me lose my mind at the moment.

Well done on the no evening snacking and weight loss @Lauralozzle you're totally going to get to your target by your appointment! You're so so close now!

@WeightlossKin @Lakyta1717 I have cancelled by SW subscription. I’m just calorie counting at the moment. Always go back to it. I was eating fat too much sugar on SW. I think keeping a diary is a good idea, just track everything and see where you can make adjustments.

To be honest, I’ve not had a perfect diet day today. Went for a walk today and ended up having a large 99 - which to my dismay was a twin 99, with two flakes. I ate it, I just thought it’d be a slightly bigger normal cone and not one designed for 5 year old hands haha. Should have just had a medium one. Managed to hit 17,000 steps though, which is good. I’ve been really lazy about exercise at the moment, I need to turn that around! I’ve just been too tired to be bothered but I feel better when I do it.

@Lakyta1717 I’m sorry about your gain. This is so hard and you’re right, the pressure of IVF makes it worse.

@Lakyta1717 how frustrating you've had a small gain that you don't deserve 🙁 if weight training makes you feel good then do it, eventually it'll be good for your metabolism and will help. I hate that desperate mopey feeling, super well done for not eating those feelings away ❤️

@Lauralozzle I think it's great that you can reflect that it's not been a good diet day. Hopefully today will be a better one for you? You're doing SO well and so close to your appointment goal.

Just had my weigh in. Gain today of half a lb. I’d say it’s period weight but I’m towards the end of it now and bloating has pretty much gone.

Here is to hoping they don’t weigh me on Wednesday!!

@WeightlossKin STS is better than a gain but I totally feel your frustration!

I think lots of water for me and not many carbs might help do the trick. Just need to lose water weight like I did before, just in case I get weighed!

Im quite looking forward to this week to see what the plan is. I really want a holiday/book some time off work but I need to keep my holidays for egg collection/transfer. I don’t want work to know this cycle so I don’t want to use up my holidays without knowing dates or anything but I desperately need a break from work. Can’t really concentrate very much at all. Also don’t want a holiday without being weighed before hand haha 😂

It's a very exciting time for you, good to finally move forward and find out the plan. Does your work place not do any IVF or medical appointment leave?
Hopefully you'll know where you stand after Wednesday and you can take some much needed time off! You'll have to let me know when you've had your appointment as I'm interested in what your IVF pathway will be like!

I've been listening to a weight loss hypnosis podcast 😂 I'm not a believer but I'll try anything. Mostly it's told me that it's mind over matter and I have to BELIEVE I will lose weight, so that my body loses weight. So that's what I'm going to try and work on... 🤔 Somehow.
