How many follicles did you produce during a letrozole/femara cycle?

@Raestro hello are you on metformin too? That’s supposed to help with the pcos (If you’re insulin resistant) I’m on metformin and letrozole too so I feel your pain, 2nd round for me
I’ve been trying to do some research myself and stress management seems to come up a lot along with taking supplements. I hope it works for you 🤞🏻

Raestro · 22/09/2021 18:17

@HT1335
Hi yes I was on metformin previously for a few months it didn’t work well with my body also tried yaltormin the slow releasing one. Yeah stress has definitely been an issue for me and depression too, I was on anti-d but off them now. Tried so many different supplements myova, procieve max , pregnacare conception. I guess stress can actually be a real issue.Thank you for the advice wishing you luck in you ttc journey x

HT1335 · 22/09/2021 21:03

@Raestro I’m the same with the supplements we’ve been ttc for approx 20 months now it’s so frustrating I feel like it will never happen for us. But then I have to try and stay positive and stress free!
Hopefully the letrozole does the trick for both of us 🤞🏻🤞🏻 X

Raestro · 22/09/2021 22:05

@HT1335 yeah defo get that so many promises made on these supplements and I just get my hopes up thinking This will be the month. Honestly you sound very positive and it’s very uplifting! But yeah hoping for the best . Are u on the ivf waiting list ? We are due to start in January if letrozole doesn’t work.

HT1335 · 23/09/2021 12:42

@Raestro if this round of 2.5mg doesn’t work we can increase to 5mg and then if no joy we will get the ivf referral, I haven’t read up on ivf yet as I didn’t want to overload myself so I’m not really sure on waiting lists etc.
It does take such a long time for things to happen, which is understandable but it’s frustrating when you’re the one wanting the positive test!
I really hope the letrozole is successful for you when you read up about it, it seems to work really well so 🤞🏻🤞🏻 For us both
So let us know how your follicle scan goes aswell x

Raestro · 23/09/2021 12:54

@HT1335 hey I’m already on 5mg they jstarted me on it right away, from my follicle scan on my first cycle I only had one big enough at around 18mm .then as I’m on the same dose I was allowed to carry on for two more months at home but with no trigger shot, which is why I decided to get the cd21 test to confirm ovulation. On the plus side my AF has been regular now for the third month with no
Norethisterone needed which I’m very grateful for . But Yh honestly making a child is literally a miracle that takes time for a lot of us .Yes you too wishing you all the best xx

HT1335 · 23/09/2021 15:37

@Raestro it must depend on where you live as to what treatment they offer I’ve never had the trigger shot or cd21 ovulation test offered to me so I’ve still no idea if I’ve been ovulating! My AF is kind of in a good pattern now tho which is good!
It sure is a miracle and seems to happen so easily for others while your trying
I’m trying to think it’s taking time for a reason and will happen at the right time
Wishing you the best of luck! It’s nice to have forums such as this where others are in the same/ similar situation xx

Raestro · 23/09/2021 17:43

@HT1335 hi you should try ask your gp I was actually refused the cd21 test by my fertility clinic so I requested it from my gp. Yeah had to pay for ovulation induction, including trigger shot even though was meant to be nhs funded. Just part of the ttc journey I guess .Yes definitely agree with u on that. Only one in my family going through it so these forums are very helpful !!xx

HT1335 · 24/09/2021 08:49

@Raestro oh that’s interesting I will make some enquiries once I know if this cycle has or hasn’t worked. I’m the same everyone else seems to be able to conceive ok or if they struggle it’s due to their partner. Pcos is very frustrating I’ve done a lot of reading up on it and it’s made me stick to healthy eating so that’s a good start I suppose
Good luck at your follicle scan xx

thislittlebird · 24/09/2021 09:01

Well, looks like my first Letrozole cycle did not work after my BFN today. I’m not surprised, I felt nothing whatsoever on any of the meds, but I have to keep taking the progesterone until Sunday and test again on the instruction of the clinic.

It’s been two years now, not a second line in sight. I knew it was a long shot because PCO + male factor, but we might give it one more go before our nhs IVF round (which I’m assuming will be November).

VenusStarr · 24/09/2021 10:40

I'm sorry to hear this @thislittlebird ❤️

thislittlebird · 24/09/2021 11:11

Thanks @VenusStarr, you’ve been here so I’m sure you know the frustration! I had low hopes anyway, the male factor side of things doesn’t help.

HT1335 · 24/09/2021 12:52

@thislittlebird oh I’m sorry about that. The negative tests are the most disheartening thing to see. Good luck for your next round
I am currently on my second round of letrozole and I don’t feel hopeful either but we shall see
When we all want it so much it’s very frustrating that it takes so long to happen
Hope you’re ok

beansprout55 · 24/09/2021 14:35

Hi girls, so I had my scan this morning.
1st cycle on letrozole only -
Multiple follicles
Two dominate but sizes are only 7.6mm and 10.7mm.
She also said my lining was thin.

It's day 11 for me. I don't usually ovulate until day 20. So she's going to scan me again day 15 to see the size then.

Is that enough time for them to grow to a decent size?
And my lining, is it meant to be thicker at this stage?

Feeling crap!!!

OP posts:
VenusStarr · 24/09/2021 15:09

@beansprout55 I had a slow response. I usually ovulate on cd10 and last year had my baseline scan for ivf and had 2x16mm follicles and a triple layer lining at cd9 - I concieved my 4th pregnancy on that cycle.
But when I did the letrozole, I had a scan on cd9 and my lining was 4mm and they couldn't measure the follicles they were that small. I was given progynova to take (2mg x3) and I went back on cd 13 and my lining was over 7mm, triple layer and I had 3 follicles at 16mm and 17mm, so I was able to trigger the next day. They said if I try again, I'll be on progynova from cd2. I hope your next scan is positive. It's such a stressful process.

@thislittlebird it's really hard to keep hopeful on this journey, especially when you're trying a different approach and it's still bfn 😢 we decided to not try whilst waiting for our ivf and haven't tried this month either - ttc has really damaged our intimacy.

beansprout55 · 24/09/2021 15:19

@VenusStarr - thanks so much. Your knowledge and experience is really helpful to me. I find it hard to follow other threads especially as I'm new to all of this, and you girls have explained things in a way I can understand - So thank you!!

So do you think that there's still enough time between now and my next scan for my lining to thicken and follicles to grow bigger?
I wonder if they will give me progynova or if it will be too late by then.

I thought that the letrozole would make me ovulate sooner too - but seems like that's not going to happen.

OP posts:
HT1335 · 24/09/2021 15:21

@beansprout55 I’m sorry I can’t help I am
The same as you I don’t know what size the follicles need to be or what the lining should be
I wish we were able access some information to get a better understanding of it all
It sounds positive that they will re check things on day 15
I haven’t had a scan this month so I’ve no idea if I have any follicles or not
But hopefully they continue to grow as needed 🤞🏻
@VenusStarr that’s helpful to know thank you
So basically we need big follicles and a thick lining?

VenusStarr · 24/09/2021 15:49

You're welcome :)

@beansprout55 absolutely you're not out (I know it feels hopeless and I cried so much after my first scan). I think your 10mm follicle is the one, the other may also catch up. Follicles tend to grow 1-2mm a day, so if you're going back on cd15, you should see some growth and possibly even one that's ready to go. I think anything over 16mm is likely to have a mature egg. I'd probably dtd every other day just in case.

A lining over 7mm and triple layer is good, but ideally you want it to be a bit thicker 8/9mm is better. It's the triple layer that they'll be looking for.

🤞

thislittlebird · 24/09/2021 19:52

@HT1335 thanks! What stage are you at in your cycle? I was strangely numb about the test today. I cried this evening but I feel like I knew it would be negative this morning and it was. I just feel tired tbh. I don't understand why it's so hard for some people and after 2 years of this it is taking its toll, although I know some people ttc for much longer, I have no idea how they do it.

@beansprout55 it sounds like they're just bit slower, I'm sure they have plenty of time.

@VenusStarr I'm not sure we have much intimacy outside of ttc really, it's all so pressured and stressful. But yeah, this month I thought maybe we'll have a chance, but I feel like my body didn't even notice all this ~stuff~ was ongoing. Not a murmur from it.

HT1335 · 24/09/2021 20:11

@thislittlebird I’m on cd 19 now I have no idea if or when I ovulate as I don’t use the sticks to check I find it too disheartening when they’re always negative 🙈 we’re ttc every other night and I agree it feels like a chore and something that you just want to get out of the way, whereas it used to be enjoyable! I’m with you on the length of time too, it’s the most frustrating thing
Part of me wants to give up trying I’m 37 now and if I’d have known it would be this difficult I would have started trying sooner.
I try and talk myself into being positive but it’s impossible to think like that all of the time
I hope your next cycle is successful! What dose are you on?

thislittlebird · 24/09/2021 20:24

@HT1335 Oh yeah mine are always negative too. Can't get two lines on any kind of stick, and they want me to test again on Sunday which is just depressing tbh. I think we might try every other day this coming month, it's hard to motivate ourselves to do it though.

I'm 38 now, we started trying when I was 36, it's pretty devastating when all our friends were fine at similar ages. When did you guys start trying?

I'm on 5mg, I had one dominant follicle on it and I assume they'll keep it the same this month. I had no symptoms whatsoever.

HT1335 · 24/09/2021 21:13

@thislittlebird we’ve been trying for almost 2 years now the only problem is my pcos and the fact I don’t ovulate, sounds simple bug seems really hard to resolve
I agree about the negative tests I am at the point I can’t even do them now I get my partner to do them and just let me know the result… negative all of the time
I’m going to increase to 5mg for the 3rd round of this one doesn’t work and I’m the same no symptoms or nothing this month
I really hope you get your positive result soon! It’s good to have this forum as noones else understands and I find it stressful when people ask about how things are going

beansprout55 · 24/09/2021 21:31

@HT1335 are you only on 2.5mg when you're not ovulating? That surprises me. I apparently do ovulate (according to OPK's) and they put me straight onto 5mg.
Sorry you probably mentioned above - what were the results of your first scan?xxx

OP posts:
HT1335 · 25/09/2021 08:06

@beansprout55 they put me on clomid at first and metformin started on lower dose and increased but I was getting bleeding so they changed me to letrozole, 2.5 for the first 3 months, but I’ve asked if they will increase me to 5mg for the 3rd round if this one doesn’t work and they’ve agreed to do that
I’m still on the metformin too, and if no success with the letrozole, ivf referral.
I’m hoping the letrozole does the trick as I live far away from the centre where I’d need to go for ivf like 2 hours drive so it would be quite stressful, but if I have to go down that road then I will make it work
Your clinic sound good if they’re willing to scan you again to check the follicles, I hope they’re a lot bigger at your next scan 🤞🏻 Xx

beansprout55 · 28/09/2021 11:21

@VenusStarr hi lovely, had the second follicle scan today and that 10mm has only grown to 12mm, and the 7mm to 10mm. But I'm still 4/5 days away from ovulation so fingers crossed!x
Lining is 7mm now too, so you were right about growth of that too x
Hoping no other follicles will grow - they're all smaller and around 7mm still. Would they cancel this cycle if more than 2 got there?x
