What is your AMH?

Just wanted to start a thread about AMH results.

I got mine yesterday and they were 18 I'm 31. I'm not sure if this a good result or not, however when I look online it looks as though it's normal for my age?

I see my gynaecologist on Tuesday to discuss blood results as also checked my thyroid and prolactin levels.

ivfbeenbusy · 10/04/2021 23:19

Age 36 mine was 12.9

Ac1234567 · 11/04/2021 00:07

Mine was 24.5 I’m 32

Bells3032 · 11/04/2021 00:29

I think that's fairly normal.

I'm 32 and mine is 6.5 Confused

Lauren83 · 11/04/2021 06:01

2.2 at 28

Scirocco · 11/04/2021 08:34

My last result was 23 but the one before that was 14... I'm 37.

AnonymousXXIX · 11/04/2021 09:02

I'm 30 and mine is 11.

Having a bit of a panic because that sounds low compared to everyone else on here, but my doctor insists it is totally average and fine.

Gardenlady543 · 11/04/2021 09:08

Mine is 17.4 at age 35.

@AnonymousXXIX I really wouldn’t worry about the figure, mine came back in the average range as well, I was found to have a huge AFC of 34 and ended up with 9 blastocytes, which is a much better result than the “average” person gets.

That’s interesting @Scirocco I didn’t realise it could vary so much! Just goes to show how reliable the result is!

ivfbeenbusy · 11/04/2021 09:25

AMH isn't as important as AFC - if you have a good follicle count that's what's more important- if you are doing IVF anyway. AMH is just a tool IVF clinics use when calculating what level of drugs to put you on.

LondonladyTTC · 11/04/2021 09:27

Mine is 13.9 and I am 31 which sounds relatively low when looking at the range but my doctor assured me it is perfectly fine and healthy eggs maturing are more important than a higher number.

DoctorBambino · 11/04/2021 09:30

I'm 32 and mine is 23.1

Rosiestraws · 11/04/2021 09:49

I feel a bit like this thread is only full of high numbers (perhaps the lower numbered people are feeling put off my posting) so to add perspective...I'm 34 and mine is 0.8. Obviously incredibly low but it is what it is..

Scirocco · 11/04/2021 10:12

@Gardenlady543 for a test that the clinics seem to really rely on a lot, I was surprised by the change too. There's always a degree of test-retest variation but such a huge jump was not what I was expecting.

And it's important to consider it in context. My results may be at the higher end for this thread, but I've still been trying to conceive for over 7 years, with only 2 BFPs in that time, both of which ended in fairly traumatic miscarriages.

There's far more to consider in fertility issues than AMH alone. A low AMH doesn't mean you're doomed, and a higher/normal one doesn't mean you'll necessarily find it an easier road.

jolly86 · 11/04/2021 10:38

@Rosiestraws I am 34 and mine is 3 pmol. In the paper my clinic gave this seems to be in the lowest 5th percent of population, but if you read the IVF threads many people have low AMH. I wonder what the real statistics are really.

Gardenlady543 · 11/04/2021 10:57

@Scirocco I’m glad the second result was higher, imagine if it was lower, you might have been second guessing that you’re egg reserve was rapidly dropping!

@Rosiestraws thanks for sharing Smile my friend has a AMH of 2 and has been through embryo banking, we support each through our IVF treatment, my issue is implantation failure, I can get good embryos but they don’t implant, so in my case AMH and AFC don’t really mean anything, they just form one part of a very complicated puzzle.

Happinesscomesfromwithin · 11/04/2021 11:23

Yes it really is important for it to be taken on day 3 or 5. Mine was taken the day my period started but before it did so wouldnt count it as cycle day 1 and my doctor said my number is most likely higher than my result as your AMH always shows higher in your follicle growth stage v the luteal phase. I thought that was interesting!

OP posts:
mowglika · 11/04/2021 11:40

That’s interesting OP I always read you can take AMH on any day of your cycle. My AMH is 17.8 I’m 42. It was higher when I did a fresh cycle 2 years ago, lots of follicles too but didn’t get as many eggs as expected. It’s very complicated, all the fertility measures just point a plan of action but the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say.

Is it for IVF OP?

Happinesscomesfromwithin · 11/04/2021 11:49

No not for IVF. I'm abroad and when you visit a gynaecologist when you are TTC they add it to the blood tests when checking for thyroid and prolactin etc... We just started clomid so I think she did it to make sure I do not over stimulate from it because I have PCOS.

Happinesscomesfromwithin · 11/04/2021 11:50

Yes I've also read it doesn't really matter. There are many women with low AMH that concieve naturally. It only takes one good egg!

OP posts:
Rosiestraws · 11/04/2021 13:07

@jolly86 I think the point is that the majority of women only get their AMH tested if they've already struggled to conceive so the statistics are hard to take at face value. It's not like this is something tested across the female population normally. I wouldn't know mine if i hadnt been so desperate to have children and it been a concern in past relationships etc to have chosen to test (I've never tried actively to conceive naturally)

Of my 6 friends who have had 11 children between them- none of them know their AMH results and never will as they've had their children. They might all have similar levels to me (unlikely I'm sure!) but we don't know.. I also have one friend my age who has tried to conceive naturally for 2.5 years and is going through NHS on Clomid and next step will be IVF but she doesn't know this either- noone has yet tested it!

I do try and take comfort in the whole "it only takes one egg" but as I'm not in a position to have a baby now and am trying to freeze some eggs for future it isn't the most comforting position to be in 🙁🤷🏽‍♀️

ForeverAintEnough12 · 11/04/2021 14:27

I was also told to take AMH for IVF on whatever day of cycle!

My AMH at 31 years old was 24. At 32 it was 18, at 34-35 now it’s 9.

My AFC with AMH of 24 was 12 for my 1st IVF which resulted in 1 morula (male factor also), my AFC when my AMH was 19 was 2 for 2nd IVF (no embryos), 6 for 3rd IVF (2 blasts). My AFC when AMH was 9 was 13 for IVF 4 (3 blasts), 6 for IVF 5 (cancelled due to poor response) and 16 for IVF 6 (currently in middle of this cycle).

These were AFC at all my baseline scans.

So for AMH and AFC and IVF reaction my response is 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

FingersXssd83 · 11/04/2021 19:43

Mine was 18 age 35 (AFC was 14) and generally produced 4-5 eggs and 3 blasts each cycle (I did 3 cycles before I had DD).

I've just had my tests re-done and AMH is 14 age 37 (AFC 19). Hoping we still get a similar number of blasts per cycle when we go again next month.

As my number of eggs have always been on the low side, I haven't really taken much notice of AMH and AFC.

Yokey · 11/04/2021 20:49

My AMH was 21 at 35/36. I can't remember my AFC but I remember that it was in the teens (and lower than the number of eggs I got (27 eggs, 25 mature, 22 fertilized, 10 blasts).
