Anyone doing ivf at 40+

We're considering doing a couple more rounds of ivf at 40.5 years old. We have 2 children already but still feel someone is missing.

Is anyone else starting or already having treatment at 40+ and would like to share the journey?

@Sunshinelove8 you should definitely feel happy tonight, of course there’s still the rest of the journey to go, but you’ve achieved what you wanted with PGS at this stage and there are so many obstacles with IVF anyway, so let’s celebrate the positives when they come!

I’m doing 3 cycles with Create, so my final round will hopefully start towards the end of January, then I’ll PGS what I can.

Sunshinelove8 · 04/12/2020 20:09

Oh that’s great , so in a couple of months you’ll be ready . How are you finding create and did you say you were doing natural modified? I was looking at that next . I think you normally get 1-2 embryos each cycle? X

Sunshinelove8 · 04/12/2020 20:33

Something like this looks worth investigating @Unicorn9. crgh.co.uk/endometrial-health-assessments/

Unicorn9 · 04/12/2020 21:07

Thank you for link @Sunshinelove8. I looked at the ERA but you have to do a normal medicated cycle as if you were doing a FET but then take a biopsy and just the test was around £1300 so adding meds would be about £2,500. That was just for ERA. Have thought about emma and alice but think costs will be too prohibitive. Also saw on ivf answers on one call that the consultant talking about ERA suggested that the rates were good but only if you did multiple ERAs. Suppose we are being selective what to test for as we have limited funds... :-( hard to know where to invest the funds...

Betty135 · 04/12/2020 21:17

@Sunshinelove8
Thanks for checking in.
I’m ok ... just waiting for PGT A results and feel sick. A few more days to go.
I hope you are well x

Janefx40 · 04/12/2020 21:17

Hi everyone. Lots of chat to catch up on.

@Sunshinelove8 congrats on your embryo! That is fantastic news and really reassuring. When would you be able to do the transfer if you decide to go ahead without banking more first?

@Unicorn9 welcome (I'm very new here too!). I'm sorry for your losses. It's great you have 2 more good embryos. A friend of mine is in a similar position with PGT normal not implanting. It is really tough. I hope the tests give you some answers.

@mouse40 welcome too.

@IslandStars I'm always interested to hear about natural modified too!

@Anxiousbuthopeful hope you are doing ok.

As for me, have just come on so one more cycle in theory before we start again (probably 31st Dec). DP was meant to have a sperm dna fragmentation test tho and we struggled to get an appt. he had it done today but not sure we can start if the results aren't back before 31st (or if they aren't good). So a bit up on the air.

Xxx

IslandStars · 04/12/2020 21:37

@Sunshinelove8 I’m doing mild with Create, they’ve been very good so far. I don’t know much about natural modified, but I think it’s based around the body naturally producing one egg per cycle, so the aim is one and anything more is a bonus.

@Janefx40 Hope your next cycle goes well, the wait between them is another frustration in the process. Might give you chance to have Christmas off though and start afresh on 31st.

Sunshinelove8 · 05/12/2020 11:27

@Unicorn9 it says on that link it can be natural or medicated ? I also wondered about the Alice one with the bad bacteria in the womb . Yeah we don’t have much money and would rather spend on more ivf if needed , going to ask clinic next week for advice . I did read a woman in a magazine had 18 miscarriages over 16 years ( unbelievable) and saw dr sheheta in Epsom and it was killer cells . She went on to have a baby in the end after treatment. I reckon it’s more likely that then anything else . I’m going to check that out again .
@Betty135 sorry for your long wait , I’m feeling hopeful for you with four though 🤞You had double my amount . you’re nearly there With hopefully some good news.
@Janefx40 thanks . I’m really thinking about doing another cycle first now . Just in case it doesn’t implant or miscarries late first trimester like the others and I’ll be a lot older to start again . Although the thought of another cycle at my clinic doesn’t fill me with happy thoughts ( great clinic but it was quite intense ) so not sure yet . Are you doing banking rounds Jane ?
@IslandStars ah yes , I had crgh and create in the running . Was going to try crgh with mild first and then create natural modified . There are a few ladies pregnant with create I’ve come across on here , one with twins after many losses and failed ivf so you’re in good hands :-)

Betty135 · 05/12/2020 12:18

@Sunshinelove8
Congrats on the 5BB normal! Just catching up! That was 1/2 normal for PGT?

Sunshinelove8 · 05/12/2020 12:34

@Betty135 yes 1/2 , other one had one extra chromosome 12 and I think chromosome 19 missing

Janefx40 · 05/12/2020 16:39

Hiya @Sunshinelove8 no banking rounds for me. I don't have enough time on my side. I'd like to PGT A but again the time delay didn't work and also we're not likely to have anything to test. I think that if there is a problem with DPs sperm and we are forced to delay, I will sign up for the PGTA testing. We're at the same clinic so yes, I hear you on the intensity. Not looking forward to starting again. Considered a switch but decided to stick for now.

@Betty135 good luck with the waiting. I know it must be horrendous

Unicorn9 · 05/12/2020 20:12

@Sunshinelove8 re the ERA I understood that you had to be able to replicate a cycle to see when you were receptive. And the only way to replicate it was to do a medicated. Two consultants have said the same to me but perhaps I misunderstood...

Sunshinelove8 · 06/12/2020 09:13

@Unicorn9 quoting another source of info. I guess medicated cycle means with progesterone rather than having to do a whole ivf again ? I don’t actually know , may be one of the ladies on here knows or definitely ask your consultants

The ERA test will have to be done either in a natural cycle or medicated cycle to mimic the type of cycle to be chosen for the actual frozen embryo replacement. So in the event the transfer is to be scheduled in a natural cycle, then the biopsy will be taken 6 days after confirmed ovulation by ultrasound (or 7 days post LH surge). Alternatively, if you have been advised a transfer in a medicated HRT cycle then the biopsy will be taken on the 6th day of progesterone administration.

Unicorn9 · 06/12/2020 10:30

Sunshinelove8 yes re medicated cycle just being the FET drugs! So mine were oestrogen, clexane, progesterone. I was taking injection progesterone too. Subcutaneous one not the oil one. I have to wait until results come back for nkc before we decide anything cos can’t do biopsy for that an ERA in same months:-( too expensive era atm for us:-(

Sunshinelove8 · 06/12/2020 11:02

I know the costs just rack up don’t they . I’m thinking of doing another cycle as worried the frosty won’t stick and time is not my friend. Then all the womb tests . Whole house deposit disappearing Confused we have to give it our all though don’t we x

lucieloos · 07/12/2020 11:31

Hope everyone is ok...just wanted to update that I had the nipt results back earlier than expected and everything came back low risk and we found our we are having a baby girl! Really can't believe it! She said that before the test my risk for Down's syndrome was quite high at 1/47 but now it less than 1/10,0000 and that's the same for the other 5 things they tested for. So happy 😊

Oh Lucie such wonderful wonderful news. I am so pleased.

Betty135 · 07/12/2020 12:19

@lucieloos
That’s wonderful. Congratulations.

Sunshinelove8 · 07/12/2020 12:45

@lucieloos so happy for you what a relief ! I was going to message you tonight to see how you were doing . This is beginning to be a very lucky thread and hoping the good continues for @Betty135 x

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/12/2020 12:59

Fab news @lucieloos and pink 💓💓👶🏼👶🏼

Betty135 · 07/12/2020 18:24

@Sunshinelove8
Sadly my luck ran out... 4 good graded blastocysts all A and B.... all abnormal! :-(

Sunshinelove8 · 07/12/2020 19:01

@Betty135 I’m just heartbroken for you , the process and then the wait for results was so long , all of it so hard . I’m so sorry .
Is there any way you can repeat the cycle because getting 4 blasts was really good , and it’s a numbers game at our age - as I hear so often . I think I got some luck as I probably miscarried a lot of abnormals ( 4 in a row ) so lucked across one decent one . I wish I could give you a hug right now x

Betty135 · 07/12/2020 19:24

@Sunshinelove8
Thank you. Appreciate the kind words x

lucieloos · 07/12/2020 20:31

@Betty135 I'm so sorry to hear. I hope you are able to go again as like sunshine said 4 blasts was amazing.

@Betty135 Sorry to hear your results didn’t work out, it’s such a stressful gamble to take on top of everything else we’re all going through. I do still believe it can save heartache further down the line, but it must be so upsetting right now. Hope you can go again if that’s what you decide x
