Anyone waiting to start IVF/FET in 2020?

As it says on the title really! Wondering if anyone else twiddling their thumbs and wanted to keep each other company?
Me- 40, was TTC for 4 years (unexplained infertility)- short protocol in 2018- fresh transfer resulted in an ectopic pregnancy followed by a successful FET later in the year. We have 8 frosties which we hope to use in another FET starting Feb/March 2020. First consultation next month. Feels so daunting to be starting the process again! X

Oh gosh, yeah, I’m an emotional wreck too.

Nice to see everyone is coming along with the process, even if we are all at different stages.

Have a lovely day tomorrow

Happy Christmas everyone! Hope it was good!

@CritterTamer 3 large dogs & twins!! And you are going again?! You clearly either live on a massive farm, are a saint, mad or all of the above Crown Grin

I spent a fair bit of last night with my friends lovely little 2 week old boy snuggled in my arms & it was lovely but obviously a bit emotional thinking we are hoping for this again & no one knows. Also lots of baby talk with my older brothers girlfriend who is due end of April & up with us for Xmas so all a bit full on but it’s not as hard as before now we have DS as there’s also a million other kids around Blush we struggled a lot before

Merry Christmas everyone. I did join this thread early on but disappeared for a while (needed a mental break from infertility chat). I start my first ivf I/icsi round in jan. start the norethisterone on 5th and doing a short protocol as I have pco. Transfer estimated for early Feb. Anyone doing a cycle around the same time?

@Pinecone88 fingers crossed it arrives in time for you. Is this your first cycle? I'm feeling apprehensive but glad that something is happening I guess.

We're having icsi because my dh's sperm has borderline poor morphology. I was a bit surprised they want us to do icsi just for that, the sceptical part of me thinks it's to make more money. I'm trying to just go with the flow and not google everything!

@Hoping1 sorry, my clinic doesn't work like that. I had a nurse appt recently where they talked us through what happens when and they checked all our forms. Maybe it's something like that.

@seven201 Yes, it will be our first round.
Is ICSI much more expensive than regular IVF? (We have nhs funding so not sure about the prices)

@Hoping1 Sorry we have never had phone appointments either so can't help.

Hi @seven201 I’m Already in the process of doing drums for FET where my transfer date is currently hopefully 29th Jan so maybe around similar time?

We’ve already got a (kinda miracle) son from a FET done transferred to my best friend as surrogate nearly 18 months ago which was delayed due to her womb lining being a bit delayed so we know it can be a bit hit & miss so we know that’s only a guide this time whereas last time we thought it was like gospel!!

seven201 · 27/12/2019 21:32

@Pinecone88 yes it does add quite a lot. We're doing a two cycle deal thing through access fertility and the icsi adds on £1600 at our clinic.

@Minster2012 oh wow. Are you using a surrogate this time or going for it yourself? I am incredibly lucky to have a 3 1/2 year old, conceived naturally. Been trying for dc2 for 2 years.

Pinecone88 · 27/12/2019 22:05

@seven201 Ouch! that is a lot!well hopefully they are doing it to give you a better chance, perhaps borderline low morphology is just riskier with regular ivf and don't give the best results 😬

@seven201 no, I was on chemo for nearly 5 years so wasn’t allowed to stop it to try for a baby despite the chemo working & being stable & then in remission I’d have lost my chemo on the Nhs so hence surrogacy was only option. Our embryo creation was Nhs funded due to chemo but nothing else as Nhs didn’t support surrogacy despite since the age of 26 (now 35) always being on some sort of cancer treatment & therefore not allowed to try for a baby Hmm& my form of treatment didn’t fall u set under egg harvesting automatic rules then when I started in 2011 (now does)

I’ve stopped my chemo now so yes we are using our Frosties for me to try to carry but I’ve never even tried to get pregnant & always been told my fertility is screwed all the way through this fertility process. I’ve only ever had one period in 15 years!! Blushso it’s pretty bloody scary!!

@Minster2012 I am on day 4 of down reg. Injection were much better then I thought they were going to be. I have an endo scratch too. Did you get many eggs from your first cycle? Be honest...what is worse... egg collection or egg transfer? We have two cycles, so it might work out that my next cycle is the same time as you. Do you have to wait a while in between cycles. Sorry for all the questions! xxx Wish you all the best!

Thank you @seven201 & hoping1! Fingers crossed!

@Duncanjames26 we got 4 eggs & then 2 embryos from first lot of EC/embryo creation, both embryos same quality but as we only got 2 & they had to be frozen they were frozen at day 3. We then thawed 1 & it did well, was transferred to my friend at day 4 & she became pregnant with our now 17 month old son.
When she was pregnant I had to have a break in my chemo due to another illness which fell in line with my contraception so as we only had one embryo we took the opportunity to do another round of EC & freezing. From that we got 5 eggs of which 3 fertilised & were grown into day 5. So we have 4 embryos, 1 day 3 & 3 day 5 which would be used first which I find weird as our boy was from the day 3 ‘batch’.

I’ve never had the full transfer but I’ve done the mock & im sorry to say EC was horrible for me. The day was fine, 2 days after I could barely walk but they did tell me as I only had 4 one of which was a big empty one they had to rummage Shock I felt like I’d done 10 rounds with Tyson. The mock transfer I felt nothing. My friend said similar. We went for cake afterwards saying “do you feel pregnant with our child???”

Hi everyone, can join in here? Sounds like I might be similar timeline to you @seven201 and @Pinecone88? Will start injections around the 12th Jan with extraction end of Jan. I'm new to mumsnet and first time IVF - haven't joined before now as have tried to stay off Google/chatrooms to stay stress free but thought it would be helpful to have somewhere to touch base once it all kicks off. We're first (and only) NHS funded IVF with ICSI (MFI) but high follicle count so increased risk of OHSS. Fingers crossed for a smooth cycle! Would love to hear from anyone in a similar boat Smile

seven201 · 04/01/2020 22:51

@Mercy87 that’s very similar to me. My predicted egg collection is 3rd Feb. My dh has borderline morphology so we’ve ‘upgraded’ to have icsi. I have pco so I think that raises the odds of ohss, but I guess they just give us lower meds and possibly a bit more careful with the monitoring. How old are you? I’m 37. Getting real now! I don’t have an exact date for injections, I think 22nd ish.

Does anyone do acupuncture during their ivf? I know the research suggests it makes no difference other than perhaps helping stress, which in turn can improve your odds. I've had it before and like it but it's just so expensive. If you have done it for ivf how many appts and when during your ivf cycle?

Report
Mercy87 · 04/01/2020 23:26

@seven201 I'm 32. Yes, they said they'll always just adjust the meds according to how it all goes. Just trying to mentally prepare myself if it turns out we have to do a frozen cycle the month after. Obviously after years of trying, what's another month but at the same time now that it's finally here I feel can't wait! The whole thing has certainly taught me a lot of patience. Where are you based? I'm in Berkshire. Good luck!

@Mercy87 Hi there! Exciting, you are starting so soon!
Turns out I am starting later, I will start down reg sometime at the beginning of February, so still a bit of wait.
We are doing ICSI as well with MFI.

I'm so pleased it work for you! That's amazing news. With only a few eggs too. That's my biggest worry!

I'm sorry to hear about your other medical conditions , it sounds like you are one super strong lady. Sending you lots of love!

Been doing rounds with Mike Tyson. That's had me laughing and laughing! You also can't beat a coffee and cafe whilst talking about if you feel pregnant Grin

Hi @Mercy87! Good idea to stay off google and chat rooms but friendly place here! My transfer is looking likely like for end of January so similar timescale maybe to you though we are doing frozen transfer.

@seven201 we haven’t done acupuncture, nothing to push the cost up!

@Duncanjames26 thankyou, hopefully you can relax a bit! Fingers crossed!
