Hi all,

I have never written a post on here but thought it may be nice to get a thread going for anyone about to start ICSI/IVF. I am 28 and have been ttc for almost a year and have recently found out my husband has a very low sperm count (2 million) and ICSI is our only option. I was sure for so long something must be wrong with me so to find out it was him was a complete shock and I think we are both still adjusting. Fortunately we are able to go private and have my appointment to get the ball rolling on Wednesday. I have had a (all clear) and all of the bloods already so hoping we can get cracking next month so I am eager to get started. Everything is apparently fine with me apart from very mild pcos which I have been told shouldn’t effect my chances! I am still very anxious about the whole situation and just praying that the process will be successful.

If anyone has any tips or is in the same boat feel free to join!

@siananigans no I have to mix them all myself, which is part of the anxiety!!

siananigans · 21/10/2019 19:28

@youngatheart00 I can understand that worry, I'm sure you'll be fine after the first couple. Ice on the area before hand and deep breaths you'll do great! xx

Naughtyboob · 21/10/2019 19:56

Hi everyone. @NS05 congrats on your blastocysts that's a really good number! Fingers crossed for the other 3!
@PotatoJam it's a really emotional process and we all have so much riding on it so don't be hard on yourself, I was crying at literally anything and everything from about 4 days into injections so just wait till you start them lol!!
@luculucyt congrats on your EC hope you get good numbers tomorrow!!
Does anyone who's had a FET know the process? Do I have to wait till I get a period? I'm really irregular and worried I might have to end up waiting longer than the 6 weeks they said.

Hi All, I’m totally new to mumsnet and also to IVF. My partner and I have been trying for over a year and a half (met later in life♥️) and have now had tests. I am 42 (43 in November) and he is 44 I have one partially blocked tube and he has a lot of sperms but some are a little laid back... same as him lol...we are thinking about heading to one of the institutions Bernabeu in Spain for our treatment as seems better chances for our age group.

Has anyone been to one of their clinics? Which one is best? Where did you stay and how long for? Cost? How does it work with scans and bloods in UK?

We so desperately want to be parents and are apprehensive... plus we we can’t afford more than one round. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Many thanks for any tips appreciated .☺️

siananigans · 22/10/2019 20:36

@smiffy88 welcome! And good luck for your journey wherever it takes you.

You might have more success putting a clinic specific enquiry in the main infertility forum with the clinic name as the title, as you'll maybe find people who've used that particular facility or others that they'd recommend.
I know there's definitely other members who have opted for ivf abroad who'll be able to explain about blood tests etc.

We're all undergoing treatment this month in this thread and I think we're all being treated in the UK.

I look forward o hearing about your journey once you decide on a clinic! Xx

😘

Naughtyboob · 22/10/2019 21:21

@NS05 well done!! 9 is amazing!! Do you know what happens next? Do you have a follow up appointment?
@siananigans how are you feeling today?
@smiffy88 sorry I haven't looked into abroad, our treatment is over here xx

Smiffy88 · 22/10/2019 21:35

Ok thanks for replying ... I have already done that. 👍🏻

As I said the whole IVF world is totally new to us so any info is good for us to learn as the general IVF treatment routine is the same in Uk to aboard but I know different for each individual ... we haven’t entirely decided on aboard so will be interested in how you all get on.

Hope it all goes well for you all. 🥰

NS05 · 22/10/2019 23:05

Yes @Naughtyboob I have an appointment booked for Monday hopefully I will start my period by then so I can start straight away! How long after EC did you get a period?

OP posts:
Naughtyboob · 23/10/2019 06:16

@NS05 it was 6 days, EC was Wednesday and got period following Tuesday. Your appointment is quick mine isn't till this Friday. Think I will have to wait for 2nd period

Youngatheart00 · 23/10/2019 07:33

On to 3rd day of stims, I had some bleeding yesterday and have woken up with the worst headache today. Guessing it’s probably just the shifting hormone levels.

NS05 · 23/10/2019 08:14

Oh welI I don't think I'll get my period for another week so I don't think our dates will be too far apart! Hopefully you will get yours again in a few weeks so you can start! I quite like having a couple of weeks off now to resume normal life! @Naughtyboob

impatientmammy · 23/10/2019 08:37

Hi all I was on here before but stopped posting while I waited to get started. I started stims yesterday I've been really lucky in that bemfola doesn't hurt. @Youngatheart00 I was told if you drink loads of water it'll help flush the hormones through or something x

LucyLucyT · 23/10/2019 12:32

@NS05 nine is fantastic, you must feel very relieved with that.
I got the call yesterday to say that if my 15 eggs, 12 were mature and 9 fertilised. They will ring me tomorrow morning to confirm if there are still enough to carry on to day 5.
Not as many as some people but still much better than last time!
Hope everyone is doing okay Smile

NS05 · 23/10/2019 12:45

@LucyLucyT 9 fertilised is amazing!! My clinic said usually half of what is fertilised will make day 5 so hopefully you will at least get 4/5 nice blasts! Well done hope your feeling ok!

OP posts:
Naughtyboob · 23/10/2019 17:13

@NS05 Yeah same here a couple of weeks to recover before transfer is quite nice after feeling so rough!
@youngatheart00 headaches are a side effect, I was lucky didn't get them but as @impatientmammy said just drink loads of Water, you will dehydrate which will make tummy and head pains worse x
@lucylucyt well done 9 fertilised is really Good! Half of mine made it to day 5 so fingers crossed xx

Thund4rcat · 25/10/2019 15:33

Hi all, I just had my FET. One embryo successfully thawed and put back in. Four still left in the freezer (from two previous fresh cycles). Now the dreaded wait to OTD on 6th November.

I've booked the OTD off work because there is obviously more chance of it not working than working, and I know I'll be in a bad emotional state if I get a BFN.

Feeling all over the place emotionally now just because I feel like I've already gone through so much :(

Also because if I hadn't had a miscarriage in May, I would have been due to give birth on 17th December so it feels like it this FET doesn't work that date will be so much harder to cope with.

LucyLucyT · 25/10/2019 17:41

@Thund4rcat I can understand you feeling like that, it's tough at the best of times but with that on your mind as well it must make it harder. Really hoping it's a BFP in a couple of weeks. Have you been offered counseling at your centre, might be worth arranging to see them to talk things through?

I have a fresh transfer tomorrow, feeling nervous about how my embryos are doing! Then the dreaded TWW.

NS05 · 25/10/2019 18:33

Wishing you all the best @Thund4rcat I really hope this will be the one for you and at least you have lots of back ups as well!! Be kind to yourself these next two weeks whatever will be will be and you have done all you can!

OP posts:
Naughtyboob · 25/10/2019 18:48

Aww @Thund4rcat I really hope this works for you! I will be booking my OTD off too when the time comes as I think I would be an emotional wreck either day.
I had my follow up appointment today after EC. They want me to have a scan next Wednesday as they think because I had 43 eggs I might not be fully recovered enough to have FET this cycle and they have said it would be in the new year then. So fingers crossed it's all ok to still go ahead next month!
@Lucylucyt good luck for tomorrow!!!
How is everyone else doing? Xx

Youngatheart00 · 26/10/2019 08:58

I’m on twice daily injections now, although I have now got much better at mixing the evening ones (the first day was a disaster!) have a scan on Monday and hoping I’m egg collecting sooner rather than later.....

impatientlyinfertile · 26/10/2019 09:15

@Youngatheart00 I've just moved to twice a day yesterday too. Have second scan Monday. When you expecting egg collection ? My first cetrotide experience wasn't fun at all x

Youngatheart00 · 26/10/2019 10:31

@impatientlyinfertile it sounds like we are treatment twins at the moment. I’m on fyremadel which I think is either the generic or equivalent to cetrotide.

They haven’t given me a target egg collection date yet, I was last scanned 9 days ago and told to start stims on Monday, which I did. I’m NHS funded so it does feel a bit production-line-y.

What side effects did you experience? I had terrible headaches earlier this week with the stims but they seem to have gone away now, thank goodness. I do feel quite achy and ‘twingy’ if that makes sense. A quiet weekend for sure. Hope you can do the same.

impatientlyinfertile · 26/10/2019 10:49

@Youngatheart00 I'm with abc which doesn't down reg. so my natural period started Monday then Tuesday I started stims (bemfola). My first scan was yesterday then we get scans every 2-3 days until they decide when collection will be. I have a cold but have headaches then feel sick this morning which I'm thinking could be cetrotide ? You excited for your scan? X
