Hi all,

I have never written a post on here but thought it may be nice to get a thread going for anyone about to start ICSI/IVF. I am 28 and have been ttc for almost a year and have recently found out my husband has a very low sperm count (2 million) and ICSI is our only option. I was sure for so long something must be wrong with me so to find out it was him was a complete shock and I think we are both still adjusting. Fortunately we are able to go private and have my appointment to get the ball rolling on Wednesday. I have had a (all clear) and all of the bloods already so hoping we can get cracking next month so I am eager to get started. Everything is apparently fine with me apart from very mild pcos which I have been told shouldn’t effect my chances! I am still very anxious about the whole situation and just praying that the process will be successful.

If anyone has any tips or is in the same boat feel free to join!

@NS05 no I'm still waiting!! Don't even feel like it's going to be soon...i googled it and loads of women have said this one has been late. Any later though and they might push me back to new year for transfer!!
Friday will soon be here hun, everything is a waiting game with this but at least you know they aren't just throwing the embryo back in without it being perfect first!! Xx
@siananigans how you feeling now? Xx

NS05 · 06/11/2019 17:21

Oh hoping it comes soon for you @Naughtyboob! Xx

@NS05 thank You! Xx

Thund4rcat · 06/11/2019 18:55

Congrats @LucyLucyT!

siananigans · 06/11/2019 19:31

@Naughtyboob feeling much better now thank you. When I had my scan the nurse said all the free fluid that had been in my abdomen was gone. My ovaries are still enlarged with all the empty follicles but that's normal. I've gone back to normal size and not sore anymore which is a relief.
Now just feeling nauseous pretty much all day, but I can cope with that, I'm not actually being sick!

Keep us posted on your progress, new year will feel like forever if you do end up having to wait, but it'll come round so quick. xx

LucyLucyT · 06/11/2019 20:12

@siananigans thanks, I'll definitely wait a week or two to do it then. It must feel weird moving out of the fertility stuff to the normal antenatal but it's great :-)
I hope my swelling goes down in the next few weeks, I dare even weigh myself!

@NS05 fingers crossed for your lining for next week, not too long now.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes, my partner and I have just had some non-alcoholic fizz to celebrate xx

I had my last monitoring scan today and triggered tonight Grin booked in for EC first thing on Friday morning. Feeling excited to get moving forward but nervous about everything that can go wrong. I was told i have a lot of follicles (a good crop according to the nurse!), im pleased but also feeling extremely bloated and uncomfortable and worrying about OHSS.

Youngatheart00 · 07/11/2019 10:19

@PotatoJam that’s progress! Feels good to be moving through it doesn’t it? And believe me, it will feel good to get those eggs out!

Hope you are taking it easy today.

I’m feeling tired / wiped out (and also constipated 😩) which I think is all a combination of the egg collection and the progesterone suppositories. Will force myself out for a walk shortly and something fibre - heavy for lunch!

PotatoJam · 07/11/2019 11:51

@Youngatheart00 i cant wait to get them out!! Is your ET tomorrow? Hopefully the walk and lunch will get things moving!Blush xxx

NS05 · 07/11/2019 12:23

@PotatoJam will your transfer be scheduled for next Wednesday then!! We will all be so near each other at least we can all speak during the dreaded 2WW! Good luck did egg collection I was a bit sore after but just used a hot water bottle and pain killers and was ok in a few days! Xxx

siananigans · 07/11/2019 13:08

@youngatheart00 Urgh the constipation. The progesterone pessaries are definitely having that effect on me! Maybe TMI but I can't wait to be finished with them and have a proper 💩! Haha

Youngatheart00 · 07/11/2019 13:20

You’re right @NS05, so comforting to know there are others going through this at a similar time!

I’m glad I’m not the only one re constipation 😳 it is a real pain, feel so bloated and uncomfortable! However, hopefully it’ll resolve itself soon as body gets used to the drugs (fingers crossed). Either that or it’s prune juice morning noon and night 🤣

NS05 · 07/11/2019 13:33

Yes @Youngatheart00 at least we have each other! I think I'm going to do accupunture before and after the transfer as my doctor recommended it!

Just home from EC. Was more painful that i expected but apparently my right ovary was sitting really high and was difficult to get to. Worth it all though, got 8 eggs from 12 follicles, we have everything crossed the next few days go well. Feeling so relieved that bit is over!

Excited to see so many of us at similar stages and with a few success stories already!

NS05 · 08/11/2019 12:10

Aw well done @PotatoJam just relax now at least the worst is over!!

Youngatheart00 · 08/11/2019 12:33

@PotatoJam good news on your collection, definitely rest up for the rest of today, hopefully you have someone looking after you.

LucyLucyT · 08/11/2019 12:43

Glad it went okay @PotatoJam take it easy now! Fingers crossed for them fertilising well for you.

siananigans · 08/11/2019 13:37

Ah @PotatoJam great news!! Here's hoping for lots of fertilisation over night for you! ♥️

Youngatheart00 · 09/11/2019 10:45

I had my ET this morning. It didn’t go quite as id hoped. From 12 fertilised only 2 made it to blast and the remainder are ‘slow growing’. Surprisingly they recommended I transfer both blasts (one good, one they didn’t really comment on other than to say it was an early blast) so I have 2 transferred.

They are going to call us tomorrow to let us know whether any of the remaining 10 have ‘caught up’ and can be frozen. Despite having two embryos transferred today I feel bitterly disappointed that as of now there’s nothing to freeze. Has anyone else experienced this?

LucyLucyT · 09/11/2019 11:39

@Youngatheart00 your numbers have been almost identical to mine. 15 eggs at collection, 12 fertilised. 9 made it to day 3. On day 5 I had one good quality blast transferred and one other frozen. On day 6 none of the others were suitable for freezing. I felt disappointed after the number of eggs as well, I have a habit of thinking too far ahead and was hoping for more "chances" but so far so good so don't get too down, there is every chance it will work out x

Youngatheart00 · 09/11/2019 11:45

Thanks @LucylucyT it’s always reassuring to know you’re not alone. And especially to know you got your BFP!

I think you’re right about the ‘chances’. It’s just the thought of starting all over again (and would have to find the money for private) as as it stands, nothing frozen, and I really thought we would.

Anyway, for now, positive vibes all round and one step at a time.

NS05 · 09/11/2019 13:25

@Youngatheart00 just remember it only takes one time! There is nothing you can do now, just relax and try and enjoy your weekend!

OP posts:
PotatoJam · 09/11/2019 18:37

@Youngatheart00 fingers crossed you get a blast to freeze from the rest but as the others say it only takes one! Will keep everything crossed this ET is a success Smile

Thank you for the kind thoughts after my EC guys! 7 out of 8 of my eggs fertilised. Im so pleased (especially after having a horrible dream in which none fertilised). Just hoping for at least one makes it till at least day 3... but hopefully day 5!

siananigans · 09/11/2019 21:15

@youngatheart00 I only ended up with one suitable for transfer, the other 2 possibles didn't catch up. That was out of 13 fertilised. I know what you mean regards feeling disappointed there's none to freeze, I felt the same - still do a little, but stay positive, it only takes 1 😘

LucyLucyT · 10/11/2019 18:31

@Youngatheart00 hope you are doing okay today, did you get news from the clinic?

@PotatoJam are you feeling alright after EC? Are you scheduled for ET on weds?

I did another test today, in the very early hours as I'm having to go to the loo at least twice a night at the mo! Was really pleased that I got a strong positive line today. I had completely convinced myself that it was going to be a chemical as my OHSS symptoms are already improving (this is good but I was worried it meant hormones were dropping off, usually gets worse with pregnancy). Feeling a bit easier about it now :-)
I've put the one from weds and the one from this morning here. Sorry about the horrible bathroom carpet, we have a lot of work to get done on our house!
