Hi all,

I have never written a post on here but thought it may be nice to get a thread going for anyone about to start ICSI/IVF. I am 28 and have been ttc for almost a year and have recently found out my husband has a very low sperm count (2 million) and ICSI is our only option. I was sure for so long something must be wrong with me so to find out it was him was a complete shock and I think we are both still adjusting. Fortunately we are able to go private and have my appointment to get the ball rolling on Wednesday. I have had a (all clear) and all of the bloods already so hoping we can get cracking next month so I am eager to get started. Everything is apparently fine with me apart from very mild pcos which I have been told shouldn’t effect my chances! I am still very anxious about the whole situation and just praying that the process will be successful.

If anyone has any tips or is in the same boat feel free to join!

PotatoJam · 30/10/2019 15:17

@Naughtyboob thats brilliant news!

siananigans · 01/11/2019 16:31

Awww great news @Naughtyboob!

I'm feeling much better these days, the swelling from OHSS has gone down so I'm not as sore.

I'm feeling very very tired though. I went for a little wander around the shops with my friend and her little one today and I've got home and I could literally go to bed right now!

Naughtyboob · 01/11/2019 16:42

@siananigans you should go for a lie down then! You deserve it lol! So glad your feeling better! I got a letter from the clinic today confirming we will start a cycle soon but also saying I have made a recovery from OHSS, I wasn't even aware I had it! I just thought I felt crap lol

NS05 · 01/11/2019 17:41

Is anyone doing any of these mad things you read online? Pomegranate juice, pineapple core, accupunture etc- I'm not sure if I should bother! I also read you should have sex the night before the transfer as the sperm makes the embryo more receptive to implantation but who knows if all these things are even true lol!

Naughtyboob · 01/11/2019 18:07

I've been eating lots of pineapple (not the core and only because it's one of the only fruits I like) and I didn't have acupuncture but did have an all over body massage for relaxation during my stims a couple of days before egg collection. Most of it is old wives tales I think!

NS05 · 01/11/2019 18:13

Ye exactly! I've been having Brazil nuts and just bought some pom juice as read it thickens lining for transfer but who even knows! I used to do accupunture and may do it the day of transfer but I guess if it's meant to be it will be! I've only got ten days to go so not much I can even do now!!

@Naughtyboob Oooh a full body massage sounds like a dream right now!
Fell asleep right after I posted, just woken up now 😮 exhausting stuff this making/growing a human!

Naughtyboob · 01/11/2019 18:24

@NS05 I think the professional advice is just to look after your body and healthy diet, but theres so much stuff on yhe internet!! and like you say if it's meant to be it will be, it's out of our hands!
@siananigans glad you had a little sleep, listen to your body it knows best!

NS05 · 01/11/2019 18:46

Ye exactly @Naughtyboob - some clinics advise to take low dose aspirin after the transfer as it's supposed to help implantation- my friend said she did this the cycle it worked so I'm going to ask my doctor about it next week and see what he thinks. That's the only legitimate thing i have seen that can really helpB

Naughtyboob · 01/11/2019 18:48

@NS05 yeah think I had seen that somewhere too. Let me know what they say when you ask!

PotatoJam · 02/11/2019 09:12

Had my day 7 monitoring scan yesterday, anyone else get quite a lot of pain after the scan? Seems to have subsided this morning back to the usual discomfort, thank goodness!

I just found out the other day it was uk fertility week ... not sure if you guys have seen all the stuff going on (quite a lot on bbc tv and radio). i watched a programme the other day on iplayer called 'making babies' which follows 3 couples through their IVF journey. I found it a really emotional watch but decided to share it with a friend who wanted to understand more about what we were going through and she said she found it super helpful in understanding the process.

Thund4rcat · 02/11/2019 17:02

Omg I just got a BFP on a FRER! I am 8dp5dt. Obviously I am very happy and excited. But also terrified because last time I got a BFP it ended in MMC at 8.5 weeks after 3 weeks of awful hyperemesis.

My only symptom so far has been feeling a bit nauseous the past couple of days.

I plan to try and get preventative meds for hyperemesis this time, ASAP!

I can't quite believe I got a positive because I was really setting myself up for a failure based on all the low stats.

NS05 · 02/11/2019 17:36

OMG @Thund4rcat so happy for you!!!!!! Woohoo 2 bfps so far it gives me so much hope! Take care of yourself and keep positive this is your time!!!

Youngatheart00 · 02/11/2019 17:53

@Thund4rcat yes!!!! Well done you!!!! That’s amazing news. So happy to read positive news. Sending positive vibes for a hyperemisis free and healthy pregnancy!

I’ve just done my last stim and trigger due later on tonight Shock

Youngatheart00 · 02/11/2019 17:54

@PotatoJam I was vaguely aware of it being fertility week and heard some of the trailers on radio 2. Strangely (maybe because I’m right in the middle of it) I had no appetite to listen.....

Naughtyboob · 02/11/2019 18:30

@Thund4rcat congratulations!!! So happy for You!! Grin

siananigans · 02/11/2019 23:47

Woo hoo @Thund4rcat! Great news. Sending positive vibes your way. Xxx

PotatoJam · 03/11/2019 09:10

@Thund4rcat brilliant news! Sending lots of positivity your way! X

LucyLucyT · 03/11/2019 09:38

Congratulations @Thund4rcat that's wonderful news!

I'm now 8dp5dt but am waiting until Wednesday to test. I've been struggling with abdo pain, lots of bloating and burping the last 3 days or so. Not sure what is going on but as it's different to my BFN last time I'm hoping it might be a sign of good news, but equally trying to keep realistic.

@Youngatheart00 not long until your egg collection now then, good luck :-)

NS05 · 03/11/2019 10:05

Wishing you all the best of luck @LucyLucyT!!!
