Ovarian reserve 9.2

Hi all,

Just got my tests back and they are normal thankfully (although I still need ivf due to Fallopian tube issues). The doctor said my ovarian reserve count is 9.2 which is normal (range between 3 something up to 20 is normal apparently). I want to do a little more reading on my results - do you know what that test is called? I forgot to ask thanks 😁

Don’t worry I think it’s called FSH test!

Hello have they tested amh?it should be done along FSH to have a better picture before IVF.

Lauren83 · 02/10/2018 19:26

Are you sure it's FSH? As an FSH of 9-20 is high and you want a low number for your FSH ideally under 9, if it's AMH it may be reasonable depending on your age. My FSH was 8-9 which was considering high for my age and when it went to 17 I lost my NHS funding for IVF

Ohluckyme · 02/10/2018 19:27

Guio I don’t know what they’ve tested but the consultant said all my results are normal and gave me a figure of 9.2. She said my reserves are great so I could wait for a while before deciding to have ivf. I should have asked further but I felt a bit rushed tbh. Do you think I could obtain a copy of my test results?

I’m 33 if that makes any difference!

Thanks both for your replies x

With fsh my understanding is that anything above 9 is not great. The nhs won't fund ivf if youre fsh is over 12 - mine is 17.4 😞

jemimafuddleduck · 02/10/2018 19:33

And I'm 32 FYI

jemimafuddleduck · 02/10/2018 19:34

*your!!!!

Lauren83 · 02/10/2018 19:37

Just thinking are you not in the UK? As that AMH is the uk isn't good as it's measured pmol/L but in other countries it's measured ng/mL and 9 would be a decent level in ng/mL

Lauren83 · 02/10/2018 19:39

Sorry you do think it's FSH don't you so my post is only relevant if it's actually AMH

Ohluckyme · 02/10/2018 19:40

jemimafuddleduck sorry to hear that, is there anyway to ring it down? (Sorry if not I just don’t understand any of this at the moment!)

Lauren83 I’m in the U.K. but my consultant is American? (NHS)

OP posts:
Ohluckyme · 02/10/2018 19:40

Honestly I don’t know what it is, FSH was just a guess

OP posts:
Ohluckyme · 02/10/2018 19:45

One thing she did say was that it’s not a sliding scale if that makes sense? So any number between 3-20 is all normal

OP posts:
Lauren83 · 02/10/2018 19:55

If you were tested on the NHS it will be the UK way of measuring, I would definitely get copies and look into it just to be sure.

Ohluckyme · 02/10/2018 20:37

Just read this on google so I think it might have been a FSH test, what do you reckon?

Normal Results

Normal FSH levels will differ, depending on a person's age and sex.

Male:

Before puberty - 0 to 5.0 mIU/mL (0 to 5.0 IU/L)
During puberty - 0.3 to 10.0 mIU/mL (0.3 to 10.0 IU/L)
Adult - 1.5 to 12.4 mIU/mL (1.5 to 12.4 IU/L)

Female:

Before puberty - 0 to 4.0 mIU/mL (0 to 4.0 IU/L)
During puberty - 0.3 to 10.0 mIU/mL (0.3 to 10.0 IU/L)
Women who are still menstruating - 4.7 to 21.5 mIU/mL (4.5 to 21.5 IU/L)
After menopause - 25.8 to 134.8 mIU/mL (25.8 to 134.8 IU/L)
Normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories. Some labs use different measurements or test different samples. Talk to your doctor about the meaning of your specific test result.

Possibly, what she said about the sliding scale though isn't right with FSH that's why I'm unsure, FSH of 5 is great, FSH of 20 means possibly very much reduced ovarian reserve although you would need a couple of results taking and also take into account AMH etc. FSH is 'follicle stimulating hormone' and if your body is struggling to ovulate because your ovarian reserve is low it kicks loads out, when you have IVF the meds are also FSH so women with high FSH are often unsuitable for IVF like me and Jemima. A lot of NHS funding for IVF is only available for women with an FSH of under 10. I wondered if it was LH as that doesn't work on the same sliding scale and is done as fertility work up but not to measure ovarian reserve

Ohluckyme · 02/10/2018 21:33

@Lauren83 thanks for your reply. We know I’m ovulating as I had a scan that showed Ovulation and follicle count plus I get positive ovulation tests every month and I have been pregnant before (but lost it due to ectopic). And they have said my ovulation reserve is great so I just don’t understand what test it could be? Really bizarre! Think I will request my results. Thanks so much for your help. Xx

Well it all sounds positive! Just start collecting copies of your results as you go you will find it useful to have them and saves all the googling afterwards trust me! I had a fair few cycles of IVF and learnt early to start keeping a file of everything x

Ohluckyme · 02/10/2018 21:46

Thank you that’s excellent advice! Thanks for being so kind x

Osirus · 02/10/2018 21:48

It sounds like AMH test. Mine was 10 and they said it was normal.

Osirus · 02/10/2018 21:50

I’m UK by the way, and I responded well to the drugs and had a successful pregnancy.

Ohluckyme · 02/10/2018 21:51

Osirus thank you so much for your reply! did you get on ok with IVF? (Don’t feel you need to answer that) xx

Do you mind me asking, from your initial go ahead how long did it all take from start to finish? We just signed the documents today to begin application for funding x
