IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

Hi everyone

Wow this thread moves fast!

For those on early stimms - great that so many are making progress! It does feel so liberating to be able to be past the first injection.

@ginger everything sounds so positive! Really hope you add some good news to this thread and I can follow suit. I’m not very good at symptom spotting. I’ve been getting some abdominal pain but I had those even before the ET which I think was brought on by the cyclogest. And right now all I can feel is the terrible muscle pain in my bum, thighs, lower back. And horrible mood swings. I’m crying one minute and laughing the next. Complete looney bin!! And you’re spot on about the feeling of wanting to be ‘normal’ again but not really!

@sunny I saw the doctor yest who has reduced my dose of prontogest to every other day but I still have to take them :( If I go through another FET cycle I’m going to insist on the SC ones.

Hope all of you are having lots of water!! It can help with the headaches brought on by stimms.

Lots of luck to everyone.

Thank you @Elaydee jab went fine last night, DH did great and barely felt it. So far still no side affects.

@sunny1984 I’m on 200 of Gonal F a day. Shame you have to wait the full week, such a long journey to get here and I know that every extra day seems like an age!

@35counting my local Tesco actually have some nice night shirts at the mo, better than the granny style Lol.

Good luck everyone DR, stimming, collecting, transferring or waiting this week, fingers and toes crossed for you all x

gingergnome · 01/08/2018 15:27

Oh no @Cobblestones that all sounds unpleasant FlowersCakeBrew My mood, unbelievably, has been really pretty stable throughout whereas on a natural cycle it's the opposite...Confused Also, I've firmly got my head in the sand about everything. Do you think your mood changes are down to the drugs or emotion of it all?

What's your schedule for tomorrow? I give blood in morning, then will get call at lunchtime with result. Thinking to ask them to wait until tea-time when DH is home otherwise, regardless of the result, I'll just be rattling around not knowing what to do with myself. Shit's getting real now...

gingergnome · 01/08/2018 15:31

PS: Yes! Let's kick this July/Aug thread off as the 'lucky thread' wouldn't it be awesome if we both had BFPs!

gingergnome · 01/08/2018 16:04

@35counting and @PositiveThinkingRainbow sorry didn't spot your posts earlier. Thanks for the good wishes.
Eeek 35 don't give me extra hope (but fab to hear, thanks!! FX). I am NHS as well and didn't own a nighty. I was quite miffed when I didn't need it as, like you, it took me a while to find a suitable one! Luckily it was only £6.

35counting · 01/08/2018 17:18

You never know @gingergnome, you may well need that nightie yet (here’s hoping)! Keeping everything crossed for you and @cobblestones, will be thinking of you both tomorrow!

Sunny1984 · 01/08/2018 22:32

Just catching up, so pleased my last shift at work is done for 3 weeks! I can’t wait to actually rest and relax!!

Will be thinking of you both @gingergnome and @Cobblestones tomorrow.

@35counting I’m doing ok I’m also getting awful headaches but had them with the Suprecur as well and just some cramping. I’ve been drinking so much water and eating so much protein I feel like I might burst! Have you had a monitoring scan yet to see how your follicles are doing?

@PostiveThinkingRainbow I asked in boots if they price matched and they said there was no way they could do the drugs at cost but you might get a different answer from a different branch! With Asda I have just made sure I’ve had the prescriptions well in advance so there is no risk of not having the drug, I guess the only issue maybe if the dose changed significantly.

Hi @sunny1984, I’m so jealous of your 3 weeks off, sounds like it is very well deserved so I hope you can enjoy some of it!

My scan is friday, after a full week like you. I’m not really conscious of my ovaries yet though so fingers crossed.

gingergnome · 02/08/2018 08:00

Apologies if I’m being a bitch but...
Sat in IVF clinic waiting appointment to find out I’ve finally managed to conceive or not. There are two families in here with toddlers. I get others might already have kids, maybe they are IVF babies, but as infertile couples themselves surely they must realise that, for many people, being around children especially on clinic days when all your focus is on your childlessness, that it’s just a bit insensitive to other patients! Perhaps I’m being hard and maybe they just can’t get a sitter etc. but when the pair of parents are here could one of them not go outside (like just in corridor or such) and just come in for appointment itself instead of subjecting is all to their lovely little children?
I’m already feeling quite weepy this morning, I just don’t need this. Sorry for ranting, I just felt like this might be the place where people understood how I might be feeling (even if I am being unreasonable!) :-(

bjonesreborn · 02/08/2018 08:16

Don’t be sorry ginger I totally agree. I’ve seen many children in the clinics over my attempts and it really is insensitive. I work with children and always make sure my appts are when i’m Not with them, or I get cover. Good luck for today, fingers crossed for you.
Afm started my 2nd injection this morning, it’s all moving along so fast!

35counting · 02/08/2018 08:22

Not bitchy at all @gingergnome, I completely understand, agree and think it’s hugely insensitive. I also don’t think people should be flaunting the fact that they already have a child (howsoever that came about) at an IVF clinic. I’m not against people paying for IVF if they have already got a child but don’t think it should be allowed on the NHS (and am not even sure it is) and they certainly shouldn’t be taking them to the clinic! You are right, if they’re there then they should be more sensitive about it. Is there anywhere else you can wait? Best of luck (the emotions are prob a good sign too)!

Springb0ks · 02/08/2018 08:26

@ginger, sending so much luck your way. And you are so not being insensitive, I completely agree. When I first started having investigations the appointments were in the antenatal wing of a hospital, so I'd be having an ultrasound to work out what was going on alongside all of the pregnant women... I changed hospitals so I understand how you feel.

Elaydee · 02/08/2018 08:40

@gingergnome good luck today! How exciting! Completely understand, its the worst feeling... especially at an IVF clinic! I've been in that room many times surrounded by pregnant people and sometimes with children too. Bit of a smack in the face. I know it probably isn't practical but you'd think clinics and hospitals would separate the two situations!

Elaydee · 02/08/2018 08:42

Has anyone experienced deep ovulation pain on one side early on into stimming? After my third injection last night, my right ovary was pulsing and aching like it does around ovulation and its freaking my out because i have PCOS. Terrified of overstimulating!!

gingergnome · 02/08/2018 09:00

Thank you so much for
Your understanding everyone. Sorry to hear you’ve all had similar experiences. I also had this at the egg transfer ward as well!!!!

Bloods done but I’m going to phone back for results at tea time as we both have to work and will get nothing done after we hear. I’m dying to know though lol. Guess Cobblestones will be the first to post her result (Firmly FX)

@Elaydee not sure I had deep pain but definitely lots of new sensations in that area. I don’t know much about PCOS but they keep a really close eye on you at the clinics and I think OHSS is one of those things you’d definitely know about if you had it. I also suspect (knowing nothing) that 3 days in might be a bit early for OHSS so presume it’s just your ovaries doing their supercharged thing! It’s all very nerve-wracking but hang in there, you can do it!

CupcakeVampire · 02/08/2018 10:05

Ugh, @gingergnome, I know how you feel and feel free to be bitchy.

My clinic is located in within a maternity hospital so every time I go I see pregnant people or couples leaving with their newborns and it can be hard to see Sad. I usually also have to pass at least one pregnant lady loitering at the doors smoking (where it very clearly states not to) every time I go in. That really makes me Angry.

Fingers crossed for you. Smile.

First day of down regging again here with me. I forgot that it takes a bit of effort to stick the needle through the certain parts of my stomach (ahem, the chubby parts Grin) so it took a couple of goes to get it in. I must remember to do it nearer the sides tomorrow.

Elaydee · 02/08/2018 10:18

@cupcakevampire a woman i work with only just quit smoking. She is 23 weeks pregnant... I've wanted to say something to her so many times, but it wouldn't help my career in any way.

I think my cruelest hospital encounter was having to go in to get bloods done after a ruptured ectopic that almost killed me. They were checking that my numbers were decreasing correctly. On my way out, weaving in and out of pregnant bellies and toddlers running wild, a pathway cleared and right in front of me was a work colleague sat with her husband, all smiles waiting for their first scan. She is due any day now... fun times haha!

gingergnome · 02/08/2018 10:34

Oh @Elaydee that's heartbreaking Flowers. So hoping this is your turn!

Thanks Cupcake. Isn't it odd, we found the flabbier bits easier to jab, I often sniggered unfairly about wondered how skinny women get on! Grin

Cobblestones · 02/08/2018 10:40

All the best @ginger and like everyone else I completely sympathise and agree with you about the need for separation between bellies and babies and those of us going through this!!

My test date is tmw! I will be POAS and I’ve managed to hold out till now. I think I’ve liked this feeling of hope so I didn’t want to give up on it too soon.

@elaydee I have PCOS and I also felt lots of twinging as if my otherwise dormant ovaries were just starting to wake up. Hope they monitor you very closely. I ended up with mild to moderate OHSS which happens (if at all) after EC so don’t worry about it for now. Just take it easy if you can. If you want to know more or have questions let me know xx

Elaydee · 02/08/2018 13:20

@Cobblestones Good luck tomorrow. I'm excited for you!! Unbelievable restraint you have... I'm usually testing at 8dpo on a 'normal' cycle!

Good to know that 'feelings' in ovaries are normal with PCOS during IVF. I only found out about 3 weeks ago that I have it (and I'm 34!!), so its first absorbing that info and now the implications, so am like a hawk on everything.

@gingergnome thanks! I'm sure we all have similar stories and we all deserve this! Keeping my fingers crossed for your results!!!!

Springb0ks · 02/08/2018 14:30

@cobblestones, my fingers are remaining firmly crossed for a positive result for you tomorrow. What restraint you have.
@elaydee, your strength shines through what you write on here. Glad that you are managing your injections well!
@gingergnome, I am one of those skinny women Grin I have limited possibilities where I can inject. When the nurse showed us how to do the injections she looked at my stomach and, oh dear- there is always the thigh! Haha. She also said I'd find later on in stimming quite painful as I'm rather, er, dainty.

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 02/08/2018 15:21

Hello Lovely Ladies,

Just been catching up!

@Gingergnome I had exactly the same experience today at the clinic! I just think its hard to take when your already emotionally on edge trying to hold everything together whilst you are in the middle of a process you never wished to be in and are sitting in the waiting room wondering if you will ever get there yourself! So you rant my friend, that is what we are all here for :)

35counting · 02/08/2018 17:18

@Gingergnome I’m so anxious for you! Hope you know by now but no pressure to update us here.

I’ve joined your ovary pain club @Elaydee but I’m 6 (7 tonight) days in and don’t have PCOS. I am on quite a high dose though so hope everything is ok in there as I’m also quite bloated today. Scan tomorrow morning so at least I’ll get checked over then.

Cobblestones · 02/08/2018 19:11

@ginger thinking of you ❤️

Thanks @elaydee and @springbok 😊

Springb0ks · 03/08/2018 01:13

I'm having a real crisis of confidence here tonight. I've had my first stims injection at 7am this morning, went to sleep fine this evening and woke up an hour later sweating, feeling sick, diahorrea (sorry, TMI), shaky. I'm not sure how much of this is panic related and how much is hormone related. Is this normal?
