What will gynaecologist do next?

Hi all. SO and I have been ttc 19 months. I've had lots of blood tests and a scan which confirmed PCOS and also that I'm not ovulating. I've seen a gynae previously privately and she was the one who sent me for the scan. This is now on the NHS and I'm just wondering what action could be taken next?
Thanks all

Hi everyone just wanted to jump on this thread as everything I’m reading is very familiar! Have had PCOS for as long as I can remember.

I’ve just started taking Clomid as prescribed by the private gynaecologist I’ve been seeing on and off for the past 4 years (she helped me get pregnant with my first baby). Before I could get any treatment I had bloods done, ultrasound, HSG and DH had semen analysis.

Just to answer the question on cost, I got some of the treatment under health insurance (no way could I afford it otherwise) but I booked my latest app myself and paid £150 for consultation and another £215 for the scan. It was expensive but worth it in my case I think.

Yes same as above it was £150 for my gynae appointment but definitely worth it as it sped things up massively!!

Thanks so much guys!! Do you know what the criteria is for taking that drug, ive had my ultrasound(15 cysts on each overy) and blood showed 1:4 fsh and lh ans testerone four times higher than the normal range.

This might be a stupid question but how would I go about getting a private appointment?

Im thinking of going to the drs next week to see if they can give me anything to help settle my periods for the next three months as they last over two weeks every month and are very painful. They never used to be lile that!!

I would know about the requirements for the drug sorry but I have read they won't prescribe if your bmi is over 30 so you should be okay there :)

As for going private, I found it difficult at first but I just researched gynaecologists in my area. I found a website for a local private hospital which listed all their gynaecologists with a picture and their experience. I'm not very confident making phone calls so I left a message in the query box on the website stating which gynae I'd like to see and what for. A couple days later I got a phone call and the receptionist advised me of the cost and asked me some questions like do I have medical insurance etc,and then asked if I'd like to book an appointment - the earliest was about 3 weeks away.

I'd start by googling gynaecologists in your area and see what comes up :)
Good luck! X

Thank you that is excellent advise!! Do you think you can go private to see a gynaecologist and then any treatment after that go back onto the nhs? Is that easy to do?

catley · 30/09/2017 23:52

I was worried about that too but my private gynaecologist was lovely and she referred me for a scan back on the NHS. I'm not sure if there's rules about it but from what I read around they usually refer you on the NHS but let you know that the option to go private is there.

Good news, my dr prescribed me tranexamic acid to help my periods stop quicker, rather than the current three weeks. If this works I could wait three months to see my gynaecologist.

Did they say what your next step would be after that littleonek?

Littleonek · 03/10/2017 08:08

She just said there are loads of hormonal options to get my hormones back to normal.

As im ttc the pills she gave me are non hormonal. And I can only take them four days per month.
