WIBU to lie to my Doctor about length of TTC?

DH and I are TTC with no luck. Becoming a mum is all I've ever wanted and it's making me feel so empty and miserable.

Here's a bit of back story...

I have been on the pill/had the implant/then went back on the pill since we starting dating so a total of 8 years. We decided we wanted to TTC in September 2016, so to give us a bit of a head start I came off the pill in June 2016.

Since then I had a short AF in August and then again in September but nothing since. We’ve been having sex every 2-3 days and I’m keeping a log of my BBT. My temperature has spiked for 1-2 days a month each month but when I take an ovulation test it reads negative. We’re now in Janaury and still no BFP, and without periods it’s making life even more difficult SadSadSad

DH had a test for his swimmers and they're completely fine.

I was tested a little while ago for PCOS which came back negative (not for fertility reason - my hair was thinning and GP suggested we check, ended up being stress related which has no returned to normal).

My sister was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure a few years ago, and while I've been told it's not genetic and shouldn't affect me I'm worried it might have Sad

I'm going to give it until March and if nothing has happened by then I'm planning to visit my GP.

WIBU to tell a white lie to my GP and say we've been TTC for a year by that point? Would she take me more seriously? I'm worried she'll tell me we've not been trying long enough and to come back after a year of doing so - happened to one of my colleagues.

Also what steps to GPs usually take? Do they just refer you to fertility specialist?

Thank you x

Jack in the veganism, unless you like being vegan for non fertility reasons!

sparksthefirst · 16/01/2017 16:44

Op I know how frustrating trying for a baby is, but honestly you are so young! and have been trying for such a short time. As others have said though if you are worried about irregular or lack of periods that's a different issue, and no harm in going to doctors and explaining you are trying for a baby. But no, please don't lie (as tempting as it is!!) 4 years ago I was convinced id never have kids after 3 years of trying. I now have 2!!! Things have a way of working out somehow, good luck! Xx

Only 4 months of TTC? 26?
The old advice was it could easily take a year for fertility to return after the pill and that you should discuss TTC with your GP before starting.
Are you taking Folic Acid?
What's your BMI?

ButterflyBird · 17/01/2017 10:34

Fairylea thank you for the heads up, I'll give the Agnus Castus a try after seeing my GP

Happyinthehills my BMI is 26.9 and in terms of supplements I'm taking Pregnacare, folic acid, EPO, Multivits & Iron and Cod Liver Oil.

I think I'm going to stop the veganism (is that a word?) and maybe just be vegetarian as vegan is proving tricky. I just can't stomach meat anymore!

If you did need ivf as and when then bmi needs to be under 25 for NHS ivf

Def don't lie. Not fair to others

You have time on your side and TBH 4mths is nothing when ttc

DoublyTroubly · 18/01/2017 18:39

I went to the doctor when I had been off the pill for 3 months with no sign of my period. They referred me to the specialist immediately as there was obviously an issue

albertcampionscat · 18/01/2017 21:00

Don't lie. You don't need to anyway - just go and say you've got amenorrhea.

FWIW that's what I did when my period didn't start again after coming off the pill. Clomid led to DS1, and after breastfeeding my periods were back to clockwork until DS2.

Blueroses99 · 18/01/2017 21:13

BMI has to be under 30 for NHS IVF in my area not 25 so best to check your local guidelines.

Hi OP

I think you should go to the GP to discuss your lack of periods- that is a completely justified reason and you can discuss TTC too, as obviously the two are inextricably linked.

Re the length of time TTC, it's probably best just to be honest e.g. stopped pill in June, TTC started in September. They'll want to know what your periods have been like since stopping hormonal contraception.

I can't comment on whether you are jumping the queue etc, but I think you are justified some investigations due to a lack of periods.

Another aspect is that of your sister being diagnosed with premature ovarian failure- I would not be surprised if this is weighing on your mind.

As others have said, you are still very young in fertility terms, but I know how it feels when you want something so much and it just isn't happening.

Good luck with everything!

If you lie to a doctor you get the wrong treatment, why would you do that?

TurquoiseDress · 21/01/2017 10:34

Also, just to add that coming off the pill does not take several months with "residual" in the body.

Women who miss a few pills have become pregnant. The whole point of the pill is to suppress ovulation by providing a constant stream of hormones.

Any break in that can potentially induce ovulation and therefore a potential pregnancy.

Also if you've taken the pill for years you won't necessarily know what is normal for you.
Eg irregular periods might be the "new normal" for you. And would warrant further investigation by your GP

My gynae told me to lie to my GP so DP could get his swimmers checked... Confused haha!
