Please can you explain all this follicles business? It's like double Dutch to me!

Sharon what do you mean by an abandoned cycle?

Sorry for the simple questions but I haven't got a clue what most of you are talking about Blush

StoneBaby · 08/08/2014 18:31

London an abandonned cycle is a cycle where you are advised not to dtd as there's a high risk of multiple pregnancy. This is linked to too many follicles been produced and a risk of ovulating too many eggs.

ridgway I'm Shock the person scanning you did not mentioned the multiple follicles. I guess your pains are due to be over stimulated?

Overstimulation can be really serious, some people need hospital admission. Make sure you are drinking lots of fluids ridgeway.

Sorry London. When you are on a monitored cycle the clinic will scan you for follicles growing. Follicles are what the drugs stimulate to grow and it is assumed when a foliicle reaches a certain maturity/size it contains and egg which will be released at fertilisation. Only one egg is needed to be fertilised but with the fertility drugs multiple follicles are stimulated and if too many grow you can feel quite unwell and the rate of multiple pregnancies increases. Many clinics have a cut off point where they will "abandon" a cycle. This may be to tell you to avoid dtd or if more meds were planned or an iui they may cancel further treatment for that cycle.

LondonSuperTrooper · 08/08/2014 21:44

Stone, thanks for the explanation. I'm still confused though. My understanding is that one is scanned between cd10-cd13 (or at least I will be), does this mean that one can't DTD until we get scanned? I tend to ovulate early in some cycles so I'll probably get scanned too late.

Another question which I hope you can all help with pls. I'm starting my first cycle of a clomid equivalent drug. I will be on holiday between cd10-cd13. Does this mean that I can't take the medications? Or will it be ok to take it and get scanned for my second cycle?

sharond101 · 08/08/2014 21:59

London it will be up to your clinic. My clinic would give you a month odd.

LondonSuperTrooper · 08/08/2014 22:15

Sharon, they are only monitoring me on the 1st cycle to see how I respond to the drugs. And then I'm on my own for the next 3 months!

kurama · 08/08/2014 23:17

My doc says I confuse her..... And as I've had normal af like bleeding today I start round 6 of clomid tomoro. If I ignore the weird spotting 2 weeks ago then I've had a 52 day cycle.... And ovd only 7 days ago. But bloods have shown me oving between cd10/18..... I hate my body right now

kurama · 09/08/2014 10:24

Crap!!!!!! Wasn't paying attention when getting my tabs out this morn and just realised I've had 2 clomid tabs instead of one..... I'm sure that's not good Confused

Morning ladies. May I join you? Just took my first round of this morning. I had my DD last July after a round of clomid with preseed & acupuncture and after five months of trying again I decided to start this clomid journey once again. This time holding off on acupuncture as my cycles have been pretty regular (reason last time it reduced my cycle lengths but costly).

Excited but still nervous as tiredness, intense cramps and breast pain was unbareable last time but was lucky it wasn't overstimulation and resulted in a BFP. Also I'm three stone lighter and eating low GI which was recommended by GP so hoping it's all in my favour.

StoneBaby · 10/08/2014 18:15

Add to the cramps, nausea and heart burns - my next 10 days are going to be fun!

Welcome photographer

stone im ok, bit tipsy lol but happy. cd5 and af seems to have buggered off Grin

LondonSuperTrooper · 12/08/2014 09:31

Welcome Photo.

This thread has quietened down recently. Nothing to report at my end, CD24 and won't be POAS as we didn't DTD at the right time :(

Ridgeway, I know exactly what you mean! Last month I convinced myself that I was pregnant!

By the way, is it vitally important to be monitored in my first cycle of Tamixfon (clomid equivalent)? What would happen if I took the tablets and don't attend the scan? I'll be on holiday!

LondonSuperTrooper · 12/08/2014 16:50

I have an actual update!!! I've now been told that I need to follow the natural killer cells programme. This involves taking steroids from ovulation and POAS at 10dpo.

I'm so excited! I really hope that they've found the reason for my recurrent miscarriage :)

StoneBaby · 12/08/2014 20:04

London great news!!

I'm thinking of buying pg tests when I'm next in Boots such a bad idea

OP posts:
LondonSuperTrooper · 12/08/2014 21:00

Thanks Stone.

I find buying pregnancy tests from Boots to be far too expensive.

StoneBaby · 12/08/2014 21:09

I normally get them with my points Grin
