I'm on the roller coaster journey they call ivf for the first time. After reading some threads on here where people at the same time of their journey could reach out to others in the same situation I thought I'd start my own.
I'm currently one week into stim drugs with an estimated EC in one week.
It would be great if ur at the same point to join this thread and share ur trials and tribulations and hopefully we can support each other through it.

Stalking this thread because my sis is about to start and just wanted to say, congrats eggs!!!! Grin j

Eggsiseggs · 15/02/2014 15:58

Thank you!
Feels very, very strange! And now of course am petrified about what could go wrong!

Shellster52 · 15/02/2014 19:59

I knew it. I seem to exude BFP vibes to every women I chat to on mumsnet undergoing IVF. I had period like cramping just days after betting a BFP with my first and was convinced I was going to miscarry. So when you said you had AF symptoms and no pregnancy symptoms, something just told me that you were pregnant. Whoop whoop.

Now PLEASE send some BFP vibes back my way for my upcoming IVF!

lucytee · 15/02/2014 20:33

Aww congratulations eggs so happy for you that's brilliant news , this gives me hope :) xx

Eggsiseggs · 15/02/2014 21:12

Still can't believe it! Am v v cautious - these next few weeks until my scan will be longer than the 2ww!

Sending positivity to you all - vibes flying everywhere! Still in shock. I really never believed I could get this far. Come what may, at least I know it is possible to actually ever see those two lines.

Thank you SO much for the support this far!
Xxx

Shellster52 · 16/02/2014 00:11

Yes those elusive two lines. And I wonder how many you have in there after the last minute decision to transfer two???? After so long of trying, I have another gut feeling that says there are two!!!!

Eggsiseggs · 16/02/2014 04:13

Oh bloody hell, Shellster! DH is saying exactly the same!!!
It's just the craziest thing. Am over the moon and absolutely terrified at the same time. Terrified to get excited as it is just so early on, terrified of it all going wrong, but then the feeling of seeing those two lines is one I will never forget.

Thanks for being so lovely. I know what it's like to be in a thread where people get their BFP and it seems so 'easy', iykwim? The thread I was on 4 yrs ago, sand thing happened as with you. In fact, I see lots of those posters on their 2nd DC now and it always felt so strange.

Don't know what I am babbling about: suppose I am saying that it can and does happen, so everything crossed for everyone on this thread, too xxx

Shellster52 · 16/02/2014 10:12

Wow, four years is a long time. You deserve it. This is your first yes? Not sure how old you are or if you have had the chance to think logically yet, but it saves you the pain of having to worry about this all again if your ideal family would involve 2 DC.

Look, here I am talking about you as though it is twins for sure. (Although my gut still says yes!) They were both healthy and fast growing. Never heard of that burn out theory when they grow too fast. To me, faster is better and it just means they would be ready to implant sooner. Don't know if I will still see you around on these threads but if I don't, I will be forever wondering.

Suppose you will find out in 6 weeks time at your first ultrasound. I will starting my next IVF in about two weeks (as long as I ovulate this cycle) so I should be still typing away on the new IVF thread I have started if you want to give us all an update.

Eggsiseggs · 18/02/2014 15:30

I am not ready to jump ship just yet!
This is our first BFP, it just seems so unreal. I definitely realise now that I really didn't believe it would happen. Ever. So getting this far is unbelievable. It opens me up to the possibility that it might happen.
I am 35, by the way. I will hang around here if you will still have me?!
Look, just take it one step at a time. It can work (this far anyway!) x

Shellster52 · 19/02/2014 01:23

Yep, I really start to doubt that my body is capable so I can imagine that only now after a BFP you realise that you never expected it. Of course we will have your eggs. Or I guess we should now call you eggsieggs seeing as that is the plural of eggs and you have more than one inside you!! Whoop whoop. Sorry, don't want to get your hopes up. Just think that after four years you deserve some excitement and joy.

Well, I have been taking Aspirin the last two cycles with the plan of starting IVF the following cycle (aspirin increases your AFC). But my last two cycles were only 21 days and then 15 days. So IVF keeps being delayed as I want to start IVF only after my body has gone through the normal process of ovulating and then recruiting follicles ready for the next cycle. I have read that Aspirin can interfere with ovulation so perhaps this is why my cycles have suddenly gone haywire. So I am torn between continuing Aspirin this cycle to have more eggs next cycle, and hoping that this cycle returns to normal. Or stop aspirin in case this is the cause so I have a normal cycle, but then get hardly an eggs during IVF cycle!

Grr, I hope all your worries Eggsieeggs are now about which car seat to buy and which prenatal class to choose rather than all the meltdowns we are having on this side of the fence!

suzylee73 · 19/02/2014 21:18

Anyone ever hear from over40ems? She started this thread then disappeared Hmm

Shellster52 · 19/02/2014 23:09

I wondered the same thing suzy. Never heard from her after EC. Can only guess that things didn't go to plan for her Sad.

Haven't spoken to you in a little while either suzy. Last I heard you were starting stims mid Feb if I remember correctly - so you are about a week into stimms now? Was this your first IVF?

suzylee73 · 19/02/2014 23:52

Yes it's my first ivf Smile I start stimming in Friday, feels like I've waited forever! I am so jealous of women who can do this naturally. I want to be excited about it all but the success rates aren't high enough to do that sadly. IVF kind of takes the fun out of it all don't you think?
How's things at your end?

Shellster52 · 20/02/2014 04:52

Some people say 'how exciting' when they learn I am doing IVF but I totally disagree. Paying $$$$ and knowing this is your last chance is one big stress - not exciting! On day 3 of current natural cycle and if this cycle is normal (as my last two cycles went haywire for some reason!) I will start IVF next cycle.

I really liked my doctor but have today spent time researching the IVF boost cycle she prescribed me and have read that it reduces egg quality because it causes your brain to prematurely release LH and progesterone which is bad for egg quality. So feeling quite stressed right now and wondering what to do!

What drugs will you be taking?

suzylee73 · 20/02/2014 11:30

See this is why I don't know anything about anything, you can know too much and worry.
I'm taking Gonal F injections as from tomorrow then I have my first scan on the 26th.
I hadn't tubes removed but that's my only fertility problem. Wish they could just take my monthly egg pop it in a petrified with some sperm then stick it back in. Would be so much quicker and easier just helping me get my egg from a to b really Smile
Try not to worry too much I'm told stress isn't good for your eggs either Smile

Shellster52 · 20/02/2014 22:07

Yep, Suzy, I'm definitely going to have to stop being such a control freak and reading about everything. I am going to pay to have another consult with my doctor just to put my mind at ease about what I have read and then ban myself from Dr Google!

Sounds positive for you that your tubes removed are the only fertility problem. So here's hoping once they get your eggs and sperm together, everything else is smooth sailing. Look forward to hearing about your scan on the 26th.

suzylee73 · 21/02/2014 16:07

I'm a bit worried about hubby's contribution tbh. His first sperm test was brilliant but his second was terrible Hmm

Shellster52 · 21/02/2014 19:46

Are you doing ICSI?

suzylee73 · 23/02/2014 20:14

Yes so I probably shouldn't worry I suppose Smile

Shellster52 · 23/02/2014 21:36

If it's any reassurance, I have read a couple of articles (can post links if you like) that seem to indicate once the sperm fertilises the egg, its up to the embryo to provide the energy for it to grow and divide. Seems to make sense as my hubby has 100% abnormal morph, yet I have seen embryo quality improvement over 3 IVF's after I have put in A LOT of hard work. Also I have a friend who had a terrible ICSI fertilisation rate of 5 eggs out of 50 over 3 IVF's. Hubbys sperm was abnormal. But once those 5 eggs did fertilise, they did amazing and 4 of the 5 made it to blastocyst and two of them implanted. So try not to stress and just focus on yourself and what is within your power. Have you been taking any supplements or any special diet for egg quality?

zumm · 23/02/2014 21:45

May I ask a qu to you all - what did you do before going down the ivf route? I feel v confused over how to progress: am ovulating, progesterone 60-78 on the day 21 tests. all apparently fine, but I'm 41, periods far weaker than when younger, and it's been 2 yrs ttc. So I'm currently taking a v low dose of clomid to 'boost things' (2nd cycle now) but it's not worked so far...& I'm not even sure the private hosp I'm visiting is giving sage advice. In your experiences, sd I just book into ivf - or what did you do next on your journeys? Any advice much appreciated. Thanks!

Shellster52 · 23/02/2014 22:03

For me personally Zumm, my hubby has been diagnosed with abnormal sperm so that made IVF with ICSI our only option. I am in Australia but assume you are in England. Do you get one funded IVF cycle? Not sure how your system works and if there is an age limit? If you do, I say get a referral today as age is the worst enemy here. I am 36 and respond poorly to IVF. Have you had an AMH test done? Gives indication of egg reserve (but not egg quality) and how well you are likely to respond to IVF.

zumm · 23/02/2014 22:06

Thanks she'll. in Uk yes - will look into amh test - this is how little I know! Presumably this is done through a hospital specialising in ivf (thinking of going with the lister). I'm 41 so too old for free ivf...

zumm · 23/02/2014 22:07

Shell, not she'll - blinking autocorrect.
