Anyone starting IUI soon?

I have a clinic appointment tomorrow, I think to start injections, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, looking for others experiences and general chat/support.

This is the first cycle, anyone else in a similar position??

MrsW - we visited LWC for one of the inseminars but just didn't feel they were the right for for us. We're in Kent so are with a clinic in Tunbridge Wells. I assume we could have had a non medicated cycle but our consultant went straight into talking about meds so we went with it. It interests me how the clinics are so different in their approach to treatment... Hope you can start today too!

OohDaddy I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope you get a bfp on Tuesday. x

EricaJ · 07/04/2014 13:55

Damn straight daddy!

If someone else tells me that I should 'just relax' or 'stop thinking about it', they may get punched in the eye. For everything else in life, people will encourage you to gain knowledge, do research, look at your different choices and make an educated decision.

But in fluffy TTC 'it will happen when it happens' world, you are supposed to not think about it and 'let nature take its course'.

Grrrrrrrrrr!

Hare I agree. It's pretty fascinating. How do they choose different methods? My friend (with a very similar medical history to me & no problems ovulating by herself) was put in injectables straight away. My gyno, on the other hand, is concerned about overstimm (in many places they would cancel IUI if you have more than 3 follies) and keeps me on Clomid.

Good luck tomorrow Daddy!!

We've decided to do another unmedicated cycle so hopefully treatment next week! A medicated cycle would have meant a meeting with consultant and starting drugs today and we both decided it might be a bit stressful trying to get it organised. LWC are open at Easter so we should be fine for treatment. Unmedicated is abut £2000, medicated will be about £3000 for drugs and scans etc and IVF sitting around £5000 so we are conscious of the costs involved. We will try this month and then if no positive have a couple of months out before moving to a medicated cycle and then possible IVF. LWC works for us as its close and they are quick to give feedback; my only gripe is that I have to do the research myself and then ask if its what to do so they are not that forthcoming however from what I've read most clinics aren't.

The thing that really gets me is "if its meant to be it will happen" - yeah well no it won't especially as we don't have sperm to hand and my AMH is low! And how can I get it negative when I so want to have a baby.

oohdaddypig · 07/04/2014 16:06

Mrs w - we were same. GP said to me, very patronisingly "you have plenty time, you have to chill out". (After 6 months trying - and i just knew all was not well). We had paid to see her and I said "I'm paying you to test my husband's sperm not patronise me". She said just to avoid saunas and hot tubs.

If we had listened to her we would have got no where, ever!

I think unless you have been through it you don't understand. I still am envious of those "accidentally" pregnant people!

But I am at peace with it now - I am honestly one of the most grateful mums around. So it is not all bad.

oohdaddypig · 07/04/2014 20:51

Period due tomorrow. Just got a BFP.

I'm confused tbh and wondering if its the HCG booster causing a false positive (had it a week ago). Had some spotting yesterday. But I feel very weird. However I can't believe that a crappy 2 million sperm could work....

Will report back once blood test known....

EricaJ · 08/04/2014 03:36

Oh my god daddy!!! Really hope it's a real one!

My friend got her her IUI BFP with 2 mill and her lovely son was born two weeks ago, it is definitely possible.

Good luck with the bloodwork, crossing fingers & toes for you! Xx

Thanks erica, that's so kind of you. I'm slightly scared as I have had an early m/c before. How great about your friend!. My successful cycles before were with at least 5 million so I guess it does really just need one.

But here is the thing - This was the one cycle when I behaved as if nothing had happened after the IUI, as I was so sure it could not work. So I had hot baths, I exercised daily and I had a bit of wine at night. I had to lift a full buggy - three stone worth - up steep steps. And carry a 4 year old.

Previously with IUIs (that did not work!) I would tortuously take it easy and try to rest and I hated that.

I don't know if this helps anyone else or not but being able to be normal this 2ww kept me sane!

My fingers are crossed for you - and everyone else on this board now

bessie84 · 08/04/2014 07:25

aaaww oooohdaddy, it only takes one, it wouldnt be a false positive by now, especially if af is due tomorrow. whispering congratulations and hope shes a sticky bean - keep us posted x (love seeing iui bfps) x

Clarey3000 · 08/04/2014 09:15

Wow Daddy - everything crossed for you!!!! Yep, it only takes one so here's hoping it all works out!! It's great to hear about BFPs on here, definitely gives me hope!!

And really sorry about your recent BFNs Erica and wishy - and thinking of you flower... This whole thing is such a roller coaster.

I have been having acupuncture for the last two years, initially to help regulate my cycle after having IUD coil removed, then for fertility in general, including to help lengthen my cycle which I think it did a bit, nowadays just for general relaxation..! I had a plan through work which made it quite affordable, and it definitely helps with the relaxation, but obv I'm on this forum so hasn't made me pregnant yet lol! But have heard that lots of people have had successes with it.

Erica that's interesting you're talking about endo, one of my friends has suggested I get tested as she had a couple of friends who were unexplained and turned out they had it. I don't have any symptoms at all but might ask next time I'm at hospital. I ov yesterday and trying naturally this month before IUD again next cycle, so about to start 2ww but it doesn't really feel like that any more as I'm not expecting anything to happen!!

Hope you're all bearing up, and sending you good vibes daddy! Xx

EricaJ · 08/04/2014 12:31

Guys, just had the surgery this morning.

I did have endo! Not much and only by my right ovary but definitely there. It has now been removed and my doctor is coming by later to give me more info. I was super groggy when I woke up but I asked him if it was so bad that I won't be able to have babies and he responded 'nowhere near that bad!' so I am feeling pretty pleased. Maybe this surgery will finally make a difference!

So Clarey and others, definitely something to check!

I am also so happy to hear the IUI BFPs! Whooop! xx

Have a good Tuesday everyone!

bessie84 · 08/04/2014 12:46

Aaaaww erica, fab fab news :) thats great.

(im currently waiting on lap&dye)

feel better quickly xxx

oohdaddypig · 08/04/2014 15:04

Erica - you must be feeling relieved. I'm glad they found out for you now. I hope you are less groggy! So can you press on with IUI next month?

Bessie - thanks for your lovely words.

Clarey - have you had any tests done? You never ever know re this month? Have you done a few IUI?

Won't get my tests results back till Thursday....

EricaJ · 08/04/2014 17:27

Thanks ladies!

Yeah, I feel pretty relieved. It's not that I feel that now are going to get pregnant straight away but at least it may explain what the issue was in the last 2.5 years!

I have also asked to get my thyroid checked next week.

Bessie I read somewhere chances of pregnancy increase until lap&dye.. good luck!!

Clarey We are also trying naturally this month (well in around 10 days in fact). We will be on holiday which will be nice! Not that I think we have much of chance after all this time and having failed with clomid, IUI etc but at least I won't have to carry all those tablets with me!

Clarey3000 · 10/04/2014 07:54

Wow Erica amazing news on the endo! Brilliant to have found something that may have been causing this and now hopefully it will be full steam ahead!! I'll definitely ask about getting checked - was it a laparoscopy you had?

daddy - massive best of luck with your bloods today, really really hope it's good news for you!!!

we've been checked for everything - 'unexplained', though I do have a short (23 day) cycle. Had one cycle with clomid , had 3 follies but didn't go ahead with iui as womb linng was only 6mm thick, last month had menopur, - good size follie & iui but no luck. Also taking cyclogest in case that helps lengthen luteal phase. I know it could happen naturally this month but after ttc 2 years I'm not holding my breath - in some ways that's good as I don't think about it as much & just get on with normal life, but guess I should be doing some positive thinking..! X

Hare5260 · 10/04/2014 09:15

Erica - I'm glad you finally know what was getting in your way... Lets hope your next try has a positive ending :-)

Daddy - awesome news! Hope today gives you the best feeling ever. x x

Wishy, what day are you going to be starting?

I'm now day 4 of injectables, scan on Monday. I'm surprisingly chilled about it all now, everything is out of my hands, just got to hope my body will do its thing and give me a decent thickness lining and boom. First go on 18th. Exciting!

Hope everyone else is well x

EricaJ · 10/04/2014 11:09

Daddy Still crossing my toes for you!!!

Clarey I also had short (but very regular) cycles. I read somewhere it can be one of the not-very-usual symptoms of endo so definitely worth checking. Yes, I had a laparoscopy. It all sounded a bit scary but two days later and I feel absolutely fine.

I really hope that endo was our problem and we get a BFP sometime in 2014. We are also trying naturally this month but like you say, I am not holding my breath. We are going to be on holiday so I am looking forward not taking any clomid or cyclogest or progynova this month and drinking cocktails and eating sushi and all the cheese! We can get back into TTC madness in May!

Hare Thank you!! So glad to hear you are feeling nice and chilled. I feel a million times better since we put ourselves in the hands of the gyno/fertility doctor.

Good luck everyone!!! xx

oohdaddypig · 10/04/2014 12:27

Clarey - that sounds frustrating. It's interesting your clinic cancelled your cycle on a 6mm lining. I also have a thin lining and clinic was adamant it is ok and I conceived on a lining of a lot less than 6mm. They all use different measurements I guess but my lining wasn't an issue.... I really hope it works out next month. I have heard accupuncture can also thicken lining.?

Hare - exciting!!! Everything crossed for you and you sound wonderfully chilled which has got to help!

Erica - did the consultant say now endo clear it could all happen naturally now? Your holiday sounds like it will be fab!

Wishy - fingers crossed for you too next week.

AFM just waiting for the phone. I hate waiting for phone calls. What will be will be, I know....

EricaJ · 10/04/2014 12:41

Daddy Waiting for calls is so frustrating!

I have an appointment with my gyno next Wednesday to follow up. Don't know if it could happen naturally but he did say that the endo was most probably the cause of our infertility

I guess it could happen without treatment but not holding my breath to be honest. If I don't get pregnant during my holiday, I want to try IUI again in May. After 2.5 years, I just want a baby, I don't care if it's naturally, via IUI or brought by a stork! :)

oohdaddypig · 10/04/2014 13:44

Erica :)

I guess if the endo was causing the problem then you might not need IUI. If the blockage is gone, then that's so positive! Would you try medicated in may to increase chances?

EricaJ · 10/04/2014 15:56

Daddy

I am hoping that we won't need IUI but we our health insurance is paying for one last try so we'll probably use it in May.

I hope it doesn't sound like we are choosing to do IUI willy-nilly because we don't have to pay for it. Thing is that apparently you have more of a chance of getting pregnant in the months following the surgery, so we want to give it our best shot (so to speak) during the next 6 months or so. If nothing happens, we would try naturally June and July and if still nothing, maybe give IUI a last try in August.

I am feeling really positive but I also like having a plan!!!

So hoping we get good news from you Daddy!

Ex

oohdaddypig · 10/04/2014 19:32

Erica - that was my thoughts as I had also heard that about getting pg soon after endo cleared (this happened to a friend of mine). i think you have to follow your instincts but it sounds like you have a perfect plan.

Well clinic phoned with good news -HCG levels good so confirmed. I am amazed and delighted. And scared as I have miscarried before so I know it's a day at a time.

I will pop by on this board still if that is ok - your kind and positive words have meant to much to me that I feel connected to you all in some odd way! I really am sending all the positive vibes to you that we get more BFPs in the next two months.

EricaJ · 10/04/2014 19:51

Daddy! Congrats!!

That is fantastic news! Please do pop by and tell us how you are getting on! I think it was Clarey saying earlier that IUI pregnancies make us particularly happy, give us hope!

Hugs & happy BFP celebrations!

Exx

Floweroct · 10/04/2014 21:15

That's great news daddy - congrats :)

Hare5260 · 10/04/2014 22:08

OohDaddy best news ever, I'm so happy for you. Congratulations!! Wishing you a very happy and healthy pregnancy! x x
