Anyone else planning to write to the MP I linked earlier? What are the key things to say?

DorotheaPlenticlew · 11/06/2010 19:43

Oh pleAse please can people stop with the graphic restating of the crime details - I can't bear the mental images but don't want to leave thread bc I hope to arrive at a point where we can do something constructive.

Tanith · 11/06/2010 19:44

Yes, the methadone sentence was entirely justified. My point is that both cases were tried in Scotland and, so far as we know, both with very similar circumstances (adult claims they didn't know it would cause harm, baby nearly died etc), yet one is given a 3 year prison sentence and the other gets away with it.

ImSoNotTelling · 11/06/2010 19:49

I am also more than a little at the total inconsistency between the methadone/dummy sentencing and the baby wipe sentencing.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 11/06/2010 19:52

Yes, agree with you about that. Thought you were saying something slightly different.

ImSoNotTelling · 11/06/2010 19:54

Only going on what I've read in the papers, for me what this man did is worse than what the woman with the methadone did. To give a slap on the wrist for this terrible violence is just revolting. The man is clearly dangerous to children.

SanctiMoanyArse · 11/06/2010 20:01

It can happen that people get away with anything though afaik it's not exclusively men

man I know jailed for sex trafficking this week, 2 years. Because apaprently the women were adult and willing. Oh Ok then .
Good character apparently.

Except he isn't, I have known him for years via my friend who sadly married the prick and have witnessed the trail of destruction he has left; rather than saying he is of cgood character I bailed out when he paid someone for a kid's party in front of the children in porn DVD's. And when she offered my DH a selection of porn under the pretext of him helping her with a car failure..

System sucks. And his kids get left as victims with a mother broken by a decade of marriage to the man. Arrgh.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 11/06/2010 20:02

I agree it is worse -- more deliberate, more prolonged, more obvious as he did it that he was causing great suffering.

ImSoNotTelling · 11/06/2010 20:03

The element of violence is not there with the methadone case.

The sentencing of these two crimes is just shockingly wonky.

glasgowlass · 11/06/2010 20:07

DorotheaPlenticlew The MP (Tom Greatrex) you linked to earlier is the westminster representative for the constituency. You had mentioned him possibly asking questions in the Scottish parliament, he would not be able to do this as he isnt an MSP, he can however raise questions in westminster.

The constituency MSP is James Kelly. Also there are regional MSP's Bill Aitken, Robert Brown, Bob Doris, Patrick Harvie, Bill Kidd, Anne McLaughlin and Sandra White All of whom can raise questions in the Scottish parliament at Holyrood.

HTH

SomeGuy · 11/06/2010 20:08

There is more detail here: news.stv.tv/scotland/152872-baby-abuse-man-in-court/

The prosecutor doesn't seem to have done his job very well IMO, basically it seems that he accepted this man's ridiculous story about it having been done to save time.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 11/06/2010 20:10

Right, is anyone going to respond to my posts re contacting the MP, cos if not I could do with leaving this thread for a bit and will just try to formulate a coherent letter ... Will post back when have done this. Unless of course you lot have more useful ideas (I expect you may well have). - ??

wukter · 11/06/2010 20:11

OMFG.
That tiny baby.
That FUCKER.

Maybe the judge didn't sentence him because he knew how "ordinary decent criminals" would help him "realise" how terrible his actions were.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 11/06/2010 20:12

Not meaning to sound bossy there btw, or to nick credit for MP suggestion (bibbity's)

wukter · 11/06/2010 20:12

Sorry for bringing down the discussion. Just a visceral reaction, not thought out.

I do wish pain on him though.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 11/06/2010 20:13

Oh sorry xposts, cheers

SomeGuy · 11/06/2010 20:15

Any appeal against the leniency of the sentence would be down to the Lord Advocate, Mrs. Elish Angiolini.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 11/06/2010 20:16

Understandable, wukter.
Glasgowlass, do you think it is better to write to one or the other, or both, or all of those? Thanks for the names.

glasgowlass · 11/06/2010 20:20

I would write to all to be honest. Tom Greatrex and James Kelly being most important as they are constituency reps but the regional reps would be a good source too.

ImSoNotTelling · 11/06/2010 21:07

Someguy does that mean we need to contact the lord advocate, or just that they would deal with it of others persuade that a review of teh sentence is necessary?

Anyone know if these people have email addresses or does it have to be a letter?

glasgowlass · 11/06/2010 21:25

Elish Angiolini(lord Advocate for Scotland) can be written to at

Crown Office
25 Chambers Street
Edinburgh EH1 1LA

All the MP/MSP's I linked to earlier have email addresses, these can be found buy clicking "contact Details" on pages I linked to. The MP/MSP's could push for Mrs Angiolini to review the sentence passed.

Kenny MacAskill is the secretary for Justice for Scotland. Think he would be a good port of call. He would need to be contacted in his minesterial role on the following email address only [email protected] (mark FAO Mr MacAskill) as to contact an MSP in a non constituency but a ministerial matter they have to be contacted through a central mailbox and these emails are then passed on to relevan minister by Holyrood staff.

glasgowlass · 11/06/2010 21:26

*relevant

DorotheaPlenticlew · 11/06/2010 21:47

Excellent, thank you again.

Sakura · 12/06/2010 03:46

Thank you, I am writing my letters today.
