"Article here"

I feel so sad for her, it must be awful to have no support from your family whilst going through something like that.
I would have liked to have read the end of the article and know what she thinks of her mother but it appears to have been cut off somehow.
I guess this story really shows you not to judge people just based on newspaper articles, becasue all the old articles did portray her as a bad person.

I just want to give her a big hug.

I agree Nemofish, she just needs so much love as well, I hope this boyfriend is as fantastic as she deserves

I hope she learns to love herself before taking up with any man.

Poor girl I hope she'll get some kind of counselling to unravel all the trauma she's been through. Sounds like she's never had anyone to care for her.
I hope her baby gets a good upbringing and that her origins dont become public knowledge some day.

swanandduck · 08/06/2010 16:14

While I agree that the baby is probably better off being adopted, as the poor girl has an awful lot of issues to sort out, I don't think taking the child from her after a year and a half with no further contact allowed was right. I think the adoptive parents should have been told that they had to allow contact and, if they refused, another couple should have been found. I am sure there is no shortage of wonderful people dying to adopt a small child and I don't understand why the couple were allowed away with this. But then again, maybe we didn't get all the facts in the paper.

aspiegal · 08/06/2010 20:54

I can see where you are coming from Swan, but I think that they picked the couple that were best for the child. I don't think it is right to sacrifice the best couple just to facilitate a meeting once a year with the first mother.
Also, if it really upsets the child then you can't allow contact no matter what the first mother feels. Although that sounds awful if you think about it then contact that upsets the girl will be more awful because she won't understand it and will be completely confused as well as more traumatised than i am sure she is already. That doesn't mean I don't feel for the mother, who needs a huge amount of love and support, just that the adoptive parents will know what is best for their daughter. At the end of the day you're right in that all we can do is speculate, we don't know all th facts. I think sometimes not knowing the facts of a story can be more useful because then you can have a proper debate about it IYSWIM!
What do other people think?

As an adoptee I can agree that it is not the magic wand and there seems to be a misconception that because adoptive parents are chosen then they must know what is best for the child

My birth mother was an alcoholic teenager with severe mental health problems. I was in and out of foster care for the first four years of my life and then adopted by abusive parents. I had little contact with my brth mother

Now there is no black and white solution to such complex problems and mine is an individual case. There are many lovely adoptive parents out there. However I feel the birth mother has to be recognised in the child's life and where appropiate contact allowed.

It may be different now but adoptive parents were not given adequate counselling to deal with the huge gap and wound in an adoptee's life which is the loss of the original birth mother - whoever she was and whatever she has done wrong.

This article has opened many wounds for me. I feel terribly sad for that girl and her little baby

TwoIfBySea · 09/06/2010 12:57

I think there is probably a very good reason why the contact isn't being allowed.

swanandduck · 09/06/2010 13:48

I think, though, that that decision should be made by the social services, and not the couple adopting the child.

TwoIfBySea · 10/06/2010 23:18

Perhaps they did, who is to say that this is the full story.

rough area in west lothian... very sad story and I think I vaguely remember the story breaking out at the time.

Hope this girl finds some happiness at last.
