What do you think - letting the side down or a sensible approach?

OP posts:
Meglet · 13/05/2010 23:26

She is lucky that she can do it. 3 dc's is going to be busy even with money and nannies.

And she is in a position where she can get another job when she wants it.

Will she have to pay full price for symthson now .

Haliborange · 13/05/2010 23:28

A sensible approach.
She doesn't know what her life will be like a year from now when she might be thinking about going back to work after the baby comes, nor what it will be like going back from Downing Street.
She's quitting but keeping her hand in as a consultant. Seems smart to me.

And I bet she still gets a hefty discount at Smythson (not that she needs it!)

TopsyKretts · 13/05/2010 23:29

I'm not convinced she was essential to the British economy in her role as moneyed layabout "creative director" anyway.

Is she? I'm surprised, but not shocked, given the party her husband represents.

But I think it's a terrible shame if it's true. As far as I understand it, she is very sucessful in her role, and to take a 'backseat' role as somebody's wife (no matter how important they are) is a terrible shame.

PricklyThistle · 13/05/2010 23:35

Can't be arsed googling what she does - so what does she do? What's Smythson?

ninah · 13/05/2010 23:37

hardly a shock, tory wife gives up 'job'

Meglet · 13/05/2010 23:37

tissue lined enveloped and everything!

toccatanfudge · 13/05/2010 23:39

she's not totally quitting working though - according to this report. She's still keeping her hand in working 2 days as week, just won't be in charge of the stuff

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/05/2010 23:43

I think it's sensible. She is not quitting altogether.

This is going to be a big upheaval for their kids and in her position I would definitely want to be able to spend more time with them.

ninah · 13/05/2010 23:45

keeping her hand in lol lol
picking the pantone

BelleDameSansMerci · 13/05/2010 23:46

Will she get the married woman's allowance thingy?!

PricklyThistle · 13/05/2010 23:47

World's not going to fall apart cause she's dropping a couple of days and changing her role....maybe when DC loses his job, he might be in a position to reverse their roles

toccatanfudge · 13/05/2010 23:47

poor woman (not that I'm a Tory fan by any stretch of the imagination I hasten to add)

She quits a full time job while pg with her 3rd child so she can go part time.......she can afford it, and she's accused of "letting the side down" and other numerous digs.

How many threads do we see on MN from pg women - currently working full time - but want to go part time after their 1st,2nd,3rd, whatever child is born and being given advice on how to try and sort it???

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/05/2010 23:48

ninah - there is no need to be so unpleasant. Without exception on MN, mothers do what they think is best for their famililes - why should she be any different?

Belle - I'm guessing not seeing as you won't get it above around £45k even if it is passed through Parliament.

ninah · 13/05/2010 23:49

'job'

Salbysea · 13/05/2010 23:51

if I had a third baby on the way I'd be looking at ways I could spend as much time with my kids as possible whilst still keeping a finger in the working pie 'just in case' for the future

why can't she do the same?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/05/2010 23:53

ninah - you are laughing at your own 'jokes' Are you Ed Balls in disguise?

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 23:55

ninah having to go to bed with David Cameron sounds like bloody hard work. I couldn't do it at all so why shouldn't she reduce her hours?

Oh.

That job.

ninah · 13/05/2010 23:56

if you think she's a designer to watch invest by all means

Heathcliffscathy · 13/05/2010 23:56

isn't she going to be a first lady type? and a new baby?

i'd stop working!

PricklyThistle · 13/05/2010 23:57

and remember she's actually pg with her 4th child...DH and I have supported each other at various points in our life together, and I honestly don't see Samantha as doing anything but prioritising her family at a transitional time in their life.
BTW I hate the tories.

ninah · 13/05/2010 23:57

she's prob off the hook now she's having the Election Baby
Victoria?

BelleDameSansMerci · 13/05/2010 23:59

If I had a husband who was f*cking loaded I'd give up work like a shot. I might do a bit fund raising for charity but I'd spend quite a lot of time shopping and lunching with my friends while my fleet of nannies looked after my children...

galletti · 14/05/2010 00:06

Completely understand - will have three children, doesn't need the money, (although goodness knows how they will pay for the children's shoes now Dave has taken a pay cut and let's face it will need to be there for all that 'first lady' stuff now. Not Cameron fans myself, but think she has made the right decision - am sure she will get herself into charity issues like Sarah did, and also, call me flippant, but it will brighten up the papers/news items/chat on mumsnet to see her/discuss outfits.
