I felt really sad about this for more than one reason.

Only sociopaths treat women as if they are objects and thankfully most guys are NOT sociopaths.

Any news on this story ? Can't stop thinking about it.
Am interested in Harpy's guardian link where it gave some actual info on the case:
"When they did, they pulled down her pants and helped each other to penetrate her.
now that is basic info that no other article had told us.
interesting. that changes it quite alot for me. I kind of couldn't work out how it had got to bailey, in the first place. but now more is becoming clear.
as others said, at the beginning, there must be more to this than meets the eye, or it would never have got to trial.

surely there is more info on this in the papers, or has it died down, just becasue the trial continues ?

The press should never have had access to this story - hopefully they're been told to keep away.

Guilty of attempted rape.

Attempted rape is a bit different to sexual bullying surely. Obviously sexual bullying is awful and horrible but it's not attempted rape. Every kid who gets his penis out is not going to to e prosecuted for attempted rape.

I am interested in the reaction to this verdict of those who said the case shoud be thrown out of court, based on the girls evidence under cross-examination.

I do hope that all the children involved get the help they need, including the two boys. Something must have gone wrong for them to have behaved like this.

AhLaVache · 24/05/2010 16:28

I know its necessary but I feel awful at the thought of an 8yo girl going through cross examination.
Especially given what happened in this case.

Oh yes, the press - or some of the press - certainly got a tad excited at the suggestion she had lied

Really SGM?
That sounds far more humane.

I am still annoyed at the way this is beign reported. On the BBC

"When she was cross-examined earlier in the trial, the eight-year-old told the court she had lied to her mother about what had happened because she had been "naughty" and was worried she would not get any sweets. "

I understood that she had had statements put to her under cross examination eg you lied about this didn't you etc, and she was mumbling "yeah" with her head low.

That is not the same as "telling the court she had lied".

The slant on this is still wonky. I wonder if it is to do with the press needing to defend their earlier headlines - the BBC ran "girl lied about rape for sweets" which is not what I would expect from them.

ImSoNotTelling · 24/05/2010 16:42

Lenin you are right the judge sounds really good.
