No, it's not, but it is Barnsley.

(Before you slate me it's tongue in cheek.)

EccentricaGallumbits · 29/04/2010 22:24

no. which is why i'm not even going to read it.

sundaylunch · 29/04/2010 22:33

Good God.

Hold the front page. Woman breast feeds child.

Wft? And from the beeb too. Thought they were more open minded than this.

SpringyWho · 29/04/2010 22:34

I said exactly this when I saw it on tv earlier. I gawped in amazement, expecting a dramatic twist that made it news, but no...

Disenchanted3 · 29/04/2010 22:35

Its the 3rd most read article on the BBC site at the moment

OP posts:
cktwo · 29/04/2010 22:35

Its the headline item on Look North after the debate. I'm going to watch through my fingers

missorinoco · 29/04/2010 22:35

You jest, but the way the news is going it'll be headlines tomorrow, especially if she calls someone a bigot whilst she does it.

TheCrackFox · 29/04/2010 22:40

Maybe the BBC has got all confused and thinks it is now Chat Magazine?

Shaz10 · 29/04/2010 22:43

Maybe the website is having a reaction to Too Much Election.

Hulababy · 29/04/2010 22:48

Saw this on BBC and wondered why on earth it was classed as news!

CoteDAzur · 29/04/2010 22:49

It's very unusual and hence yes, it is news.

BexJ78 · 29/04/2010 22:49

I live in the yorkshire and on look north (local news prog) it was made into a proper feature on the last two editions of the prog. (on the 6.30 prog, about 5 mins was dedicated to it!)

Ha ha missorinoco about it being in Barnsley though; I used to live there, so I can say that!

BexJ78 · 29/04/2010 22:50

Sorry should have said 'yorkshire' not 'the yorkshire'! durrr!

Doodleydoo · 29/04/2010 22:52

Hm yes, clearly top headlines.

Do quite like her quote:

When asked what reaction she gets from people and if they find it weird, Ms Hurst said: "I think it's weird."

'Its very unusual'

Would it be news if a 5 year old still had a bottle? Or a dummy? Or slept in a cot?

Think not.

I'm not even a breastfeeder! I just thought 'oh she feeds him , ermmm, why am I reading this on the BBC?!'

Just the same if the child had a bottle, dummy or slept in a cot. Or wore nappies.

The child is 5, not 2.

Yes but would those things make the news?!

OP posts:
sanfairyann · 29/04/2010 23:00

lol it really did read like 'woman in barnsley actually bf her child' was the news element of it. completely pointless non-story. very

YoMoJo · 29/04/2010 23:01

When FIL was small, he went home everday for lunch. He usually walked home with his friend who lived in the flat upstairs. Only whilst FIL tucked into his home cooked lunch his friend was BF. FIL thinks this carried on all the way through Infant School...

His friend is now a very succesful Headteacher in a very popular West London School.

hf128219 · 29/04/2010 23:01

Yes, I can see the headlines:

'Mother keeps school kid in a cot'

'Mother can't be bothered to potty train'

YoMoJo · 29/04/2010 23:04

sorry have no real point to make - just why does BF make such big news?

I just wonder what would happen if FIL's school friend story was to happen now - they would probably have tons of people camping outside their front door!

Doodleydoo · 29/04/2010 23:05

I suppose that some of their "readers" might find it a bit icky and therefore news. In the same way that I read "I breastfeed my cat" in one of the trashier mags........

But that wasn't the BBC..............

Disenchanted3 · 29/04/2010 23:06

I can see why someone breastfeeding a cat would make for an icky story but not a child?!
