Petition against 'Islamic' terrorism

Just want to sound this idea out with you good people

Everytime someone in the media mentions the words 'Islam' and 'terrorism' in the same sentence it does nothing but reinforce the idea that the two are inextricably linked. The caveats added after the fact don't do much to redress this imbalance, IMO.

I've never organised a petition before but I think if enough of you were to support it I would like to ask the BBC to do something pro-active in this area. If the BBC can be convinced (a long shot I know but I think it's worth a try) then other media would undoubtedly follow. (they are pack animals )

At the very least we can register our opinion that this will help to unite all creeds in the face of international terrorism and not follow the terriorsts own script when it comes to the corruption of Islam.

Let me know your thoughts.

monkeytrousers. if what you are saying is that the use of the two words repeatedly next to each other is utterly crap then yes i agree. unfortunately most people don't.

I totally agree, have made the Catholic terorist point many times myself caligula! All it does is stir up the sort of racial hatred that enable Al Quaeda etc to recruit, threfore we are doing their work everytime we do it.

No I'm not Muslim, Moondog, but we all seem to have been debating racism endlessly on MN for the last two weeks. I had an idea to take it a step further than the talking shop that it has been, for us to perhaps do something tangible that would help. It certainly can't hurt to try, can it?

I thought that, judgeing by the numbers that took part in the debates that there would be alot of takers for this petition, especially those from London and the other big cities.

It's putting words into action.

I'm interested in many things to do with social and political inequality regardless of what section of society it's coming from. They're all linked IMO, and to fight against one facet is to fight aganst them all.

I'm glad you asked though Moondog. I'd like to debate it with people who are thinking about it but aren't quite sure yet - or who think it's a waste of time.

The BBC plays a huge part in the construction our national identity. If they can take this positive step, it think it will help enormously to promote the tolerance (I hate that word) that politicians are always blathering on about. That we, here on MN, have talked about alot over the last two weeks.

It's an idea to promote solidarity between communities. To put two fingers up to the terrorists who are'nt anything to do with Islam.
Just imagine if we succeded? How about it Moondog?

By the way, I'm not religious at all, but I do see that it has it's place in the world when people need to make sense of it all and hope its not all for nothing. But that's just my take on it. I make sense of it all by studying evolution. Alot of people don't 'believe' in that either.

thought the Beeb were careful NOT to use the term Islamic terrorist anyway, and were calling them bombers/suicide bombers for precisely the reason you expund, Monkeytrousers...?
