and crying. and seeing ds in all of the starving childrens' faces. and knowing that it isn't nature to blame but every one of us. i know i'm always doing this, but i just feel so awful about the state of the world at the moment.

the famine in niger was predicted years ago. we obviously on a governmental level haven't given a toss.

we worry about being blown up by a terrorist. we tolerate a world where people are starving to death. we wonder why people are angry and hate-filled at us at the west.

i had really good news today. we exchanged on a house ending a long process of house hunting and i can't feel anything but over indulged and despairing. and so angry.

we spend billions on slaughtering civilians in iraq. and begrudge pennies to africa.

i don't even know why i'm posting this except that i don't know what to do with myself.

i am sure that a lot of people have donated 40p so why is there still people starving? Toothache I didn't say that they were having too many children some of these people don't have any children! I am just saying it was a way of helping the country out economically. What would our country be like it contraception wasn't available?

get off your arses and do something about it then? everyone is entitled to their opinion. maybe these pledges from france should have been a bit better publicised then more people would give money.

Lizzylou · 02/08/2005 11:56

Your ignorance lies in not even trying to have any empathy with starving people who have no way of helping themselevs right now and not even trying to digest other people's posts....how many times must you be told that sending bloody food just is not the answer!!??

Donations to the DEC Niger Crisis Appeal can be made at www.dec.org.uk, or by phoning the Disasters Emergency Committee on 0870 60 60 900.

From Tuesday donations can be made by going into any high street post office or bank.

(for the 99.99% of people on this thread who do see the sense in donating money)

Toothache · 02/08/2005 11:56

I tend not to wait until another country pledges things before I will. I don't know what the French pedge has to do with us donating money!?

soapbox · 02/08/2005 11:56

Do you own a TV - do you ever watch the news or is that too intellectually challenging for you???

Have you seen the nurses and doctors treating the starving children???? Have you seen pictures of aid workers distributing aid?????

That is what your money would be paying for.

Why not look at the Emergencies Disaster Fund website which a link has been posted for here and see what they will do with your money.

Why not look at the Medican sans frontiers website for details, or is it all too much for you to bother with!

So you think lots of people have sent their 40p - but the question really is have you????????????????????

loulabelle222 · 02/08/2005 11:57

ggglimpopo dont criticise me for not giving money to charity.. if i had the money i would but charity starts at home and at the minute i need every penny i can get... so don't call me names because i don't give money to charity its up to me what i do with my money . When i do give money to charity its in a constructive way so don't have a go at me for that!

loulabelle222 · 02/08/2005 11:58

no soapbox and i dont want to thank u ! if you feel that strongly u do it for me... if 40p is nothing to u!

Lizzylou · 02/08/2005 11:58

I think your attitude and rudeness is what is offensive LLB, no-one is telling you to give money, they are explaing to you why it is needed...

bundle · 02/08/2005 11:58

llb22 you don't have 40p?

lemonice · 02/08/2005 11:58

"the economy" is subsistence economy which is why children are essential

plenty of charities can tell you where the money is going if you choose (and no one is saying you are ignorant for not giving)both to give and to find out...

try BBC News with lots of info and Charity Links for example

Toothache · 02/08/2005 11:59

It's not your contribution that is the issue here LLB222, afterall I haven't yet donated!

Janh · 02/08/2005 12:00

loulabelle has much more important things to spend her money on...

loulabelle222 · 02/08/2005 12:00

no not a penny at the minute! i am skint!

Toothache · 02/08/2005 12:00

..... resisting the urge to talk about designer baby clothes.

bundle · 02/08/2005 12:01

(lemonice, of course, you are right, i meant they didn't have an economy as we understand it in the West)

bundle · 02/08/2005 12:01

how come you are online then?

"if i had the money i would but charity starts at home and at the minute i need every penny i can get..."

Well you know what - we have no income at the moment (haven't since last November) and as many on here will know things have been pretty tight -

HOWEVER - we've still continued our £18 a month sponsorship for our little sponsored child. Because, no matter how tight things are here, how many letters we get in the next few days telling us the payments couldn't go out because there was no money in their - and charing us £30 for each one - we're still 1000 times better off than the majority of people in the world.

1,200,000,000 People in this world are living BELOW the international poverty line.

loulabelle222 · 02/08/2005 12:01

well that was then this is now and i dont wish to discuss it
